  • Fantastic, Looks Great, Always Really Liked Thinkpads.

  • speaking of 3GB of 4GB u can use about 3800MB in 32 bit , 32 bit supports 4GB but when they 4GB they mean 3700MB around that.

  • Western digital to a seagate?? Seems silly

  • Hey dude, if i want to upgrade my 80gb with 1gb ram t400, to a 1tb or 500gb hd and 4 gb ram, what type of ram and hard drive do i need for it to work properly. also what are limits on it with ram and hd? cheers

  • how u get the card that put the sata hdd in the dvd slot?

  • Oops sorry I put the wrong review.

  • Video review was okay but the song was bad.

  • Ill choose a ThinkPad over a Macbook anyday...

  • dude, you shouldhave gotten the macbook pro over this laptop, i have one and i have wanted a macbook pro since the 2nd day ive had it

  • Do you think i can run crysis on the lenovo t61p?

  • what is the name of the game played at the end where you drive a car??

I agree unboxing a Thinkpad is a orgasmic experience.

  • Name of the game at the end is Crysis. I'd like to know the name of the game in the beginning.

  • its far cry 2 im pretty shure

  • What's the name of the optical to HDD adapter and where did you get it?

    Thanks.

  • name is at 4:45 i got it at lenovo's site when they had a coupon.

  • @tmp5789 Optical bay Hdd !!!

  • Unboxing a Thinkpad is such a happy experience.

  • what kind of hard drive did it come wiht? ssd?

  • can u play crossfire in T400 smootly?

  • Either the Intel or ATI card can be active at once. You cannot combine performance like in crossfire or SLI.

  • i have lenovo t61 to but only my video card is bad could i upgrade it??

  • Hey fernandomario; You probably have 1 that has the nvidia quadro nvs in it. Those physic/CAD gpu's do get really hot. I had a T61 14.1", nvidia quadro nvs140m, but sent it back to lenovo because the LCD TOP Cover was warped, not FLAT and the depot failed twice to fix it. Also the quadro 140m temp is 140 - 158F Idled - 170F in max approx. The gpu can be replaced. Its better to have the first T400 series that came out. Intel P series cpu's are great to have. 25watt power consumption & run cool :)

  • To the postor of this video: You obviously you know what is good in technology.

You are one true connoisseur of technology. The Dell S-PVA 24 inch LCD, the microsoft keyboard, and that fine thx logitech speakers..... salute to you.

  • i chose this over mac and dell too :)

    some buying tips i researched:

-processorwise, the diifference between the p and t series in mainstream performance is minimal, get the low watt p8600. 0.14/0.40ghz and extra 3 mb l2 cache isnt worth the money

-not sure if windows 7 will better use turbo memory so save the 40$

-HD/ram upgrades from lenovo is wayyyyy overpriced

    -get the 9-cell

    =]

  • Has anyone tried to play world of warcraft on a T400 ? does it run smootly ?

  • ive seen crysis run on tweaked (lower) settings run smoothly, so im sure wow can work out similarly

  • WoW can be played even on X3100 integrated GPU, so the 3470 should handle it without problem on medium setting.

  • Is that a G9 I see in the background? Schweet :D

  • Is the keyboard flex as bad as it looks?

  • Very stupid to replace the WD harddrive for a SEAGATE harddrive! WD is WAAAY better!

  • im thinking of getting this and getting crucial 2gb ram and western digital 500gb 5400 rpm drive. anyone done that?

  • I got 2GB of Crucial DDR3 and a WD 320GB 7200RPM.. works flawlessly.

  • WD 320GB 7200RPM or western digital 500gb 5400 rpm? is it a lot more quiet? less hot?

  • All depends on how much you think you'll need. Personally, 320Gb is just fine for me and the read/write speeds will be faster than the larger 500. I have about 10,000 songs in iTunes, maybe 15 720/1080 resolution movies, tons of pictures and I still have about 70 gigs left on my 320.

The WD 320 is NOT very loud at all.. I can't even notice the difference from the 160Gb that it replaced. Heat is not an issue at all with the T400... awesome computer.

  • what the display. what should it be?

  • I got mine with the LED backlight, 14"

  • hate to be a noob, but what are you doing at 3:50?

  • installing ram or "memory"

  • What were the base specs of the laptop? Also could you make a how to for the ram install?

  • Hard hard is it to put the memory in? I just ordered the same thing and want to add 4 gb's as well. It looks like you have to remove the whole dam touch pad. Most laptops are like 22 screws and your done. That looked like the keyboard was about to pop out...

  • It isn't too difficult. Just look at the user's manual and it'll show you. The tough part is getting the palmrests flush with the bottom half of the computer after putting the memory in.

  • SUPERB VIDEO MATE!!!

One of the most comprehensive Videos Ive ever seen.

    5 Stars.

  • lenova is a company owned by IBM :P IBM desined the thinkpad but lenova took over the thinkpad series

  • Lenovo* is a Chinese company that basicallly bought whatever consumer goods IBM used to make. Conusmer goods being laptops, desktops, etc.

IBM themselves still make their servers.

  • In your opinion is a 9cell worth an extra $50 over a 6cell?

  • Was there flex with the keyboard?

  • i love lenovo laptops thay are ugly as hell but the performance is world class.

  • Awesome vid, my parents are buying me this for my birthday, and since my mother works for Lenovo she can buy this at 30% retail price

  • Very nice vid, indeed! Ive ordered one, and gonna upgrade it with 120GB SSD, and ram also, so thanks for guide :)

  • hey great video man, i had a question about the weight, after all the upgrades with the 9-cell, how much does the whole thing weigh?

  • I have heard that the T400s and 500s are not as sturdy as the T61 was. Is this enough of an issue to pass on this machine or is the notebook's structure pretty good overall?

  • it is still the most sturdy compared to the other companies. plus, the price is a lot cheaper compared to the t61 when it first came out. performance spec is higher too.

  • I know that T500 feels actually sturdier than T61. People keep comparing new T500 to old T40 or something but that is just like comparing kevlar vest to plate armor from 12th centrury =)

Anyway the plastic feels different but it also feels like the parts fit better together. otherwise T61 and T500 are pretty much the same when it comes to sturdiness

  • Good & informative video, 5/5!

Thats one impressive laptop, I'm thinking of getting one as a poor mans alternative to the Lenovo X200s.

  • I salute you for NOT selecting a macbook!! i extremely dislike (not hate) apple and everything they sell.....and it pisses me off when people buy stuff from apple to be "cool". when, in reality their just showing how ignorant they are of computers! :)

  • I actually own the first generation macbook. OSX was too limiting for me so I couldn't adjust to it. That is why I decided against buying one this time.

  • Kickass video dude, I never knew how to take apart my T400 until now lol. Thanks for sharing man.

  • ehh... that mogo mouse really sucks, I never use it. You're better off buying that logitech v470, and just throw it in your bag along with the laptop. I use the trackpoint 99% of the time, and set the trackpad for scrolling mode. the scroller on the mogo really kills it...

  • I totally agree about the Mogo mouse. I'm not using the V470 but another logitech that uses the 2.4 ghz technology and it's much better than Mogo.

  • that hard drive you put in will cause more heat man

  • About how much did the entire setup cost you?

  • i can tell you.... dont buy this laptop for gaming !!!!

  • But with the ATI graphics most games are playable, no?

  • Not to mention that anybody who buys a thinkpad with hardcore gaming in mind is an idiot.

  • How is that hardcore gaming? It's an arcade game. It's pure gameplay and enjoyment, the thinkpad can handle it with ease. With 256MB of dedicated graphics RAM and 4GB of system RAM, 2GB of cache there isnt much you can complain about. Plus you get a decent quality laptop, with usable battery life. Not to mention anybody that shits on a thinkpad just lucked out on an HP piece of shit or doesn't have problems YET.

  • Er... where was I shitting on a thinkpad? I own a T500, and I DO use if for casual gaming.

If you'd bothered to read my comment, I said anybody who bought one with the INTENTION OF HARDCORE GAMING ON IT is an idiot; it's a primarily buisness laptop, not a gaming one.

  • Great video. A couple of questions; was the stuttering from the Seagate brand itself or was it just a defective one? Also, if I order the one with the ATI 3470 graphics does it also come with the integrated Intel or do I need to request the switchable graphics?

    Thanks in advance!

  • when you choose the option with discrete graphics, the ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 is a dedicated gpu, the motherboard thats in the lenovo thinkpad has the intel X4500 HD chipset onboard, and the gpu is also hooked into the motherboard. What your doing is choosing which driver to run off of, for the ATI gpu you'll switch to the ATI driver, for the intel you'll use the intel driver while the ATI is temporary disabled you want to use the onboard intel chipset. It can be done in other platforms too

  • actually only Vista SP1 will let you switch on-the-fly. Any other platform, you'll have to do it in the BIOS, meaning you'll have to restart.

  • Thanks for sharing.

I am considering buying T400 CTO.

  • can this computer handle fallout 3 game?

  • if on low, then yes.

  • can somebody tell me the name of games played at the end of the video. thanks

  • In order shown: Raiden 3, Crysis Warhead, and Far Cry 2

  • thanks alot

  • Great product tour and fantastic quality video. What camera were you using?

  • lol. you shot up ur car before driving it. hehe

  • thanks!

  • Wow nice I have an r61i and its doing me well but sux for gaming 5/5
