Hey dude, if i want to upgrade my 80gb with 1gb ram t400, to a 1tb or 500gb hd and 4 gb ram, what type of ram and hard drive do i need for it to work properly. also what are limits on it with ram and hd? cheers
Hey fernandomario; You probably have 1 that has the nvidia quadro nvs in it. Those physic/CAD gpu's do get really hot. I had a T61 14.1", nvidia quadro nvs140m, but sent it back to lenovo because the LCD TOP Cover was warped, not FLAT and the depot failed twice to fix it. Also the quadro 140m temp is 140 - 158F Idled - 170F in max approx. The gpu can be replaced. Its better to have the first T400 series that came out. Intel P series cpu's are great to have. 25watt power consumption & run cool :)
To the postor of this video: You obviously you know what is good in technology.
You are one true connoisseur of technology. The Dell S-PVA 24 inch LCD, the microsoft keyboard, and that fine thx logitech speakers..... salute to you.
-processorwise, the diifference between the p and t series in mainstream performance is minimal, get the low watt p8600. 0.14/0.40ghz and extra 3 mb l2 cache isnt worth the money
-not sure if windows 7 will better use turbo memory so save the 40$
-HD/ram upgrades from lenovo is wayyyyy overpriced
All depends on how much you think you'll need. Personally, 320Gb is just fine for me and the read/write speeds will be faster than the larger 500. I have about 10,000 songs in iTunes, maybe 15 720/1080 resolution movies, tons of pictures and I still have about 70 gigs left on my 320.
The WD 320 is NOT very loud at all.. I can't even notice the difference from the 160Gb that it replaced. Heat is not an issue at all with the T400... awesome computer.
Hard hard is it to put the memory in? I just ordered the same thing and want to add 4 gb's as well. It looks like you have to remove the whole dam touch pad. Most laptops are like 22 screws and your done. That looked like the keyboard was about to pop out...
It isn't too difficult. Just look at the user's manual and it'll show you. The tough part is getting the palmrests flush with the bottom half of the computer after putting the memory in.
I have heard that the T400s and 500s are not as sturdy as the T61 was. Is this enough of an issue to pass on this machine or is the notebook's structure pretty good overall?
it is still the most sturdy compared to the other companies. plus, the price is a lot cheaper compared to the t61 when it first came out. performance spec is higher too.
I know that T500 feels actually sturdier than T61. People keep comparing new T500 to old T40 or something but that is just like comparing kevlar vest to plate armor from 12th centrury =)
Anyway the plastic feels different but it also feels like the parts fit better together. otherwise T61 and T500 are pretty much the same when it comes to sturdiness
I salute you for NOT selecting a macbook!! i extremely dislike (not hate) apple and everything they sell.....and it pisses me off when people buy stuff from apple to be "cool". when, in reality their just showing how ignorant they are of computers! :)
I actually own the first generation macbook. OSX was too limiting for me so I couldn't adjust to it. That is why I decided against buying one this time.
ehh... that mogo mouse really sucks, I never use it. You're better off buying that logitech v470, and just throw it in your bag along with the laptop. I use the trackpoint 99% of the time, and set the trackpad for scrolling mode. the scroller on the mogo really kills it...
How is that hardcore gaming? It's an arcade game. It's pure gameplay and enjoyment, the thinkpad can handle it with ease. With 256MB of dedicated graphics RAM and 4GB of system RAM, 2GB of cache there isnt much you can complain about. Plus you get a decent quality laptop, with usable battery life. Not to mention anybody that shits on a thinkpad just lucked out on an HP piece of shit or doesn't have problems YET.
Er... where was I shitting on a thinkpad? I own a T500, and I DO use if for casual gaming.
If you'd bothered to read my comment, I said anybody who bought one with the INTENTION OF HARDCORE GAMING ON IT is an idiot; it's a primarily buisness laptop, not a gaming one.
Great video. A couple of questions; was the stuttering from the Seagate brand itself or was it just a defective one? Also, if I order the one with the ATI 3470 graphics does it also come with the integrated Intel or do I need to request the switchable graphics?
when you choose the option with discrete graphics, the ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 is a dedicated gpu, the motherboard thats in the lenovo thinkpad has the intel X4500 HD chipset onboard, and the gpu is also hooked into the motherboard. What your doing is choosing which driver to run off of, for the ATI gpu you'll switch to the ATI driver, for the intel you'll use the intel driver while the ATI is temporary disabled you want to use the onboard intel chipset. It can be done in other platforms too
This has been flagged as spam show
i also did several upgrade like yours :D
and its great..!! really intrested in the mogo mouse, but its a little hard to find in my country
nice thinkpad you have bro :D
btw is that a switchable graphic thinkpad you have?

speaking of 3GB of 4GB u can use about 3800MB in 32 bit , 32 bit supports 4GB but when they 4GB they mean 3700MB around that.

Has anyone tried to play world of warcraft on a T400 ? does it run smootly ?
Ye7ia07 2 years ago
ive seen crysis run on tweaked (lower) settings run smoothly, so im sure wow can work out similarly
zerospec2 2 years ago
WoW can be played even on X3100 integrated GPU, so the 3470 should handle it without problem on medium setting.
