  • Thanks for the translation!

  • Promopera: When I was 5 years old, I started listening to Stracciari and Ruffo.

Well, you are right. They both set the basis for the Verdi baritone until Hampson came on board (ha,ha).

But this Russian guy is not bad aether. I prefer him to Nucci.

  • He is too soft as a singer to sing Verdi. Doesn't have the ring and color of a Verdian voice, and not even the art to do it.

  • @espertolirico I have heard him in the flesh both in opera and concert and you are speaking unadulterated rubbish! Next to Milnes I consider Hvorostovsky as the finest Verdi baritone of the late 20th century and the 21st century. There is tremendous ping and power to his voice and he is able to sing piano and still be heard at the rear of a full house so what nonsense is this that he is too soft for Verdi?! His interpretive skills are of the highest standard as well! Bravo Dmitri!

  • Mr. Andredekock, I have heard him in a recital in Miami, and there are plenty of youtubes recordings, and clearly he is NOT a verdian baritone. May be you are new in the opera, or you are one of those bocelli fans, but if you would understand a little bit about voices, you would understand that a Verdian baritone is Leonard Warren, Renato Bruson, Bastianini, Cappuccilli, Titta Ruffo, G. Taddei, etc. but not Dmitri. He is ok for light roles.

  • @promopera Yes I must be new in opera as I have retired as an operatic baritone with a 32 year career! No I do not enjoy Bocelli, but I will bow to your obvious superior knowledge and you obviously have been a performer as well on stage and so have garnered your knowledge first hand. Clearly the major Houses around the world have NO understanding of what a Verdian baritone is and I will get them to contact you so that they no longer employ the UN-Verdian Hvorostowsky. Lol.

  • yeah right,,,no wonder why opera houses in the US are closing..... oh please!

  • @promopera Yeah it's a tragedy that the Metropolitan, Chicago, San Francisco, Covent Garden, Berliner Staatsoper, Paris, La Fenice and La Scala are all closing down. I'll certainly miss them all.

  • you are a complete ignorant!! New York City opera closed! San Antonio opera is closing while I write. Boston opera closed. Pacific Opera closed. Baltimore opera closed,,, and so on. And by the way, the last season La Scala canceled many of their productions, and most of the opera houses in Italy are doing less and less productions.

  • @promopera Lol! WHO is ignorant here? Have you heard of the global recession that is responsible for THOUSANDS of companies closing their doors and MILLIONS of people losing their jobs? THERE is the reason that smaller opera companies have also had to close their doors, NOT as you claimed earlier because they were employing Hvorostovsky to sing so badly! Catch a wake-up man! The timbre, the power, the dynamics and the nuance that he has in his voice make him a PERFECT Verdi baritone!

  • Yes, indeed you are ignorant, but don't worry , you are not alone. Most of the opera houses are today managed by ignorants, clueless people like you.

‎"Audiences judge by real worth and no by reputation. The artist must really please the public or suffer. The verdict of the audience is better than the examination of a hundred so-called experts" Enrico Caruso (then don't be surprised if you see more opera houses closing!!)

  • @promopera Lol. You're not worth arguing with further. You may go on knocking Dmitri Hvorostovsky and I will bow to your superior knowledge. Lol.

  • Dmitri is a good singer. But stating that he is a Verdian baritone is absurd. I am done .

  • who cares whether he is a typical verdian baritone or not.

find a better one :))) if you can.

  • So he is not a verdian baritone! Apart from Bastianini and perhaps Warren, who is or was?

This is an oustyanding delivery of the Eri tu. Period.

If you want more squillo it's your personal preference.

  • Exactly, Horovstrovsky is not a verdian baritone. I guess you have to start listening Titta Ruffo, then continue with Riccardo Stracciari, and of course as you mentioned Warren and Bastianini.

  • @promopera even Milnes and Merrill fit the verdi baritone bill better than DH.

  • Thank you frufruJ I love him and I love your collection

  • great - клас !

  • Fantastic! the sound and the language are celebrated by his voice! what a pleasure to hear such an artist!

  • @sergenovique YEAH! I'm glad you agree with me!

  • Wonderful voice, the best baritone I heard over the last years!!!

  • Maybe, He's not aVerdian batitone, but his voice is from the most beautifull I ever heared.

  • Sublime!

  • Beautiful aria, beautifully sung! Wonderful deep voice! Bravo!
