i appreciate all your comments. you invested quite a bit of time posting them and i agree with much of what you had to say. 'thanks' and 'keep on rockin'.''
@frankyforearmsnycnh The Rolling Stones haven't made any good, relevant (some would say Keith Richards' "Before They Make Me Run" the last time The Stones had anything significant to say) albums since "Some Girls" (1978).
1981's "Tattoo You" had some good material, "Start Me Up" among it, but most of the tracks were "in the can" from previous studio sesions.
@frankyforearmsnycnh I have certainly liked some songs/singles ("Start Me Up," "No Use In Crying," "Little T & A," and "Mixed Emotions" come to mind) by the Stones in the last three decades. But most of those songs borrowed riffs from better Stones material, were largely throw-aways.
@frankyforearmsnycnh And while I like Jim Caroll's music (and some of his written works) very much, and some of "Dry Dreams" (this track, "Still Life," and "Love Crimes" being the standouts), the universal consensus (with which I concur) is "Catholic Boy" (1980) is Carroll's best album, "People Who Died," "City Drops Into The Night," and "It's Too Late" the best songs of that debut album.
@frankyforearmsnycnh I also happen to like "Day & Night," "Wicked Gravity," and the title track of "Catholic Boy" very much, as well.
Some would say Lou Reed and Patti Smith did and/or does what Jim Carroll did, only better. But I would miss Carroll's music, had he only stuck to the written word. The man had musical talent, and it's a shame he didn't explore it more, didn't live long enough for a "personal renaissance" of his music. But we presreve and share what he already recorded.
@frankyforearmsnycnh There has certainly been some good popular and rock & roll music recorded in the last 30 years (which is from 1981 onward), and I can site albums and records by The Ramones, Iggy Pop, Johnny Thunders, The Cramps, The Clash, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Undertones, Marianne Faithfull, The Lyres, The Dogmatics, Husker Du, Social Distortion, The Replacements, Nirvana, The White Stripes, and many more, as examples of such.
@frankyforearmsnycnh I wouldn't argue with anyone who said or wrote there hasn't been "much" good popular and rock music made since 1990, but there has certainly been "some."
I may also say if no popular/rock music had been recorded since about 1985, I could easily live with the music I already had (on records) and heard, the best music having been made from between the mid-1950s through about 1980, some exceptions on either end of that time span.
@frankyforearmsnycnh Many (not me) would also say records by Bruce Springsteen, U2, and R.E.M. were among the best music made in the last three decades.
But then, I also don't like rap/hip-hop, consider it rhythm with verse rather than actual music, by comparison with other genres of popularly recorded music.
OK, now I'm crying..
