one thing i forgot to mention was that it has an old 6.6l 400 chevy gas motor, not the "woosy" 5.7 most 1990 chevs had then. way more low end torque which is what allows me to pull such big loads, plus 4lo helps too, it sounds to hard to believe, but it's totally true, if i didn't so much money on cable and saws instead of a video camera i would like to prove it. very interesting and fun, dangerous as hell too. not to mention somewhat illegal.
just about everyone i know around here owns a gm truck 1500 to HD and they've never front end issues, from farmers to loggers, i even use my heavy half chevy to pull turns of trees down mountains when we cut our firewood, biggest turn of logs was three 80 ft. doug firs, our gear 200 ft of cable three blocks, 3 chokers, my tie rods didn't break but the backend of my truck went up in the air about 6ft. and i bent a rim and busted my fender on a rock. got the trees down though. no lie true story.
@bottzxI32 hey there buckwheat, you're a prime example of all the idiots out there that cause pointless arguments on videos. and im pretty sure the biggest competition yota makes to an American truck is a lousy half ton, so its pointless putting a heavy duty diesel in such a small truck. plus, there is no American and foreign truck competition in the U.S., genius.
@bisquik3006 no dipshit, you get a clue. Look up DMAX on wikipedia, and look up Isuzu on there. both articles explain what i'm about to say.
Originally DMAX (makes Duramax) was a joint venture between Isuzu and GM, now owned completely by GM. Do some research of your own - it became fully owned and operated by GM in late 2002, not long after the first Duramax was designed. Ever since then, Isuzu hasn't had a bit of say-so in the Duramax design and production.
@bisquik3006 HAHAHA yeah u got that wright. chevy and wikipedia are in bed together. I culndt agree moor. wikipedia ant got shit for reliable sources unless tha people use reliable sources AND THEY NEVER DO! HAHAHAHAHA FUCK CHEVI
@Reservoirdogs12 y u watchin the video then? is ur life that boring that u sit on youtube finding videos of other ppls stuff to trashtalk? sounds like ur a badass...
@aguyfromalabama Hmmm. Truck is still running good and strong. Granted - Fords may last longer because they are never subjected to this proper use of an HD truck. They're always in the shop or their owners are afraid they'll never start in the bush.... so they put 12" lifts on them with 24's and rubber band tires and wheel the hell out of mall parking lots. :-)
@desktop100 haha i think you miss read my comment! I was saying your truck wont wear out doing this and if you want to tear something up buy a ford! they break easily ;p
@desktop100 I agree with that. Kind of strange out on the farm though. People generally use Chevy's for running to town and other small errands. I wonder why about 90% of the "heavy duty" trucks are Dodge, and Fords.
@bisquik3006 hmmm gonna say because the ford and dodges arent allowed off the property. Towing gets expensive...lol. The Dmax gets it done AND still able to whip into town for a parts run for the other brands. I'm playing around......When they break, they're ALL junk, and I am able to say i've been pretty upset at my dmax a time or two.
@desktop100 True. They are all pretty tough, and they will all break eventually. We just can't use GM for the abuse. The frames will hold up now, but we would destroy IFS.
GUYS DURAMAX IS A JAPANESE ENGINE NOT AMERICAN ITS MADE BY ISUZU IN JAPAN AND ISUZU IS LIKE THE MERCEDES BENZ FOR TRUCKS OVER THERE ALSO THE INTERNATIONAL POWERSTROKE AND THE CUMMINS ARE MADE IN ENGLAND FORD AND DODGE DIESEL ARENT EVEN AMERICAN JUST THE BODY.
@sovereign126 Lived there for 3 years....beat the crap out of a Hilux, and a bunch of LC75's ("bugger" lol). Had to post a letter to the guy in front if you wanted to overtake them... tough but couldnt pull like this.
Good luck keeping up with us now Toyoda and Nissan! I bet neithor one of them could tow what he did with that duramax through the mud. HAHA AMERICAN TRUCKS!
@IrishmenV8 imported trucks suck as nissan tyota and the honda are highway only wen put therew mud need to be modifed to stay alive american built trucks are built tough.
I would guess by the looks of it that GM took the 1500 truck frame and put a 4 or 5 in. body lift then a 4 to5 in. suspension lowering kit on with stiffer springs and called it an HD. does anyone know why the frames sag so low on the HD?
@badassouthernboy I dont know why everyone beats on an IFS heavy duty truck. When done properly, it will take the abuse as seen in my vid AND ride like a cadillac. A set of cognito braces and tie rod sleeves fixes any of the frontend issues you guys READ about. Every truck brand (SFA or other) has their issues. This 7000lb truck has since done a 13.9 in the 1/4mile, plows snow, and hauls my 5th wheel and boat (sometimes jeep) as roadtrains. I love my duramax!
@desktop100 ha the only reason i say that is because i owned a dirtymax and broke my tie rods twice once truck pulling and once doing this type of thing cept woth a tractor i made the switch a a ford powerstroke and love it but i miss my duramax i got offered a really good deal on a 04 crew cab dirtymax and im gonna make the switch back i miss the smooth ride lol
@123abcpa did you READ any of the comments regarding IFS? So why exactly does IFS suck? What troubles have you had with your truck? My duramax made it through this and didnt bust a tie rod....
@desktop100, IFS doesnt suck, GM IFS SUCKS!!! many trucks have pulled off IFS and still been good strong trucks, Toyota is an example(i dont care for toyota)the 80's and 90's toyota ifs could be beaten and bashed into rocks all day long (i havent seen many new toyotas off road) but if you really beat a GM IFS it will snap in a second. Ford's I link was very strong, weird but strong, many class 7 baja trucks run the I link, how many baja trucks you see running a GM IFS set up without major mods?
@123abcpa Okay...so how many Class 7 baja trucks are pulling 7 ton gooseneck trailers? I dunno man you arent talking apples and apples anymore. Yes it is the only HD truck with true IFS. If you are of the thinking that 5 turns on the torsion bar keys and a 2" block lift in the back is the way to lift a GM, then of course you will say GM IFS sucks. Said it before. A set of tie rod sleeves and Cognito braces fixes any of the weak steering issues these have.
@desktop100, or I could just drive a stock F350 and be much more durable without any mods. no tie rod sleeves, no need to get the frame off the ground (unlike the gm frame saging 5 inches off the ground) that sounds better to me. i will stick with the Ford.
@desktop100, Ford put the I link on the F-350 for a while, they can tow 14,000 lbs. Oh and you should not just twist your torsion bars, you shoud just get a truck that is built like a truck and doesnt need a lift. A real truck isnt made up of left over geo metro parts, they are built to work, with sturdy engineering and beefy parts.
@desktop100, I SAID, IT LOOKS LIKE GM TOOK A 1500 SILVERADO AND PUT A 5in BODY LIFT ON, THEN PUT A 5in SUSPENSION LOWERING KIT ON AND CALLED IT A HD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read the comments before responding please. I never said that truck had a lift kit on it!!!
@123abcpa Real trucks are built with engines that aren't universally hated by everyone, including those that love the company. *cough 6.0 powerjoke cough*
@123abcpa The Duramax in the video doesn't blow either, it just has weak tie rods. I would rather go with those. Much easier and cheaper to do preventative maintenance on.
@Jabhill26, You said real trucks arent built with engines that are universally hated by everyone. I dont know many people who like the GM 6.5 diesel. they had all kinds of problems and couldnt make much power. The 6.0 is a better motor then the GM 6.5, all the 6.0 needs is a head stud kit and EGR bypass. the 6.5 needs a stronger crankshaft among other thing. its easer to fix a head gasket then a Fuckin crank shaft, once the crank shaft goes out the whole engine is fucked.
@steveak93 its really gay that people like you who like ford better say shit like that..."ford could do it better" the fact is a 4x4 dirtymax, powerstroke, or cummins could do this with the right tires and driver. i own a dirtymax but don't have anything against the other 2 brands. they are all badass powerhouses that shit on rice burning trucks and they all will run forever if you do normal oil changes and fuel filter changes!!!! im happy with my GMC, but would be happy with a ford too:D
you know, i've hauled tons of weight with my ifs chevy 2500 and have had any real issues with the suspension. i've replaced tie rods on it before because my steering starts to feel loose and bouncy. but thats just the price you pay for driving a few hundred miles a year on old logging roads with pot holes that literally suck a truck up whole. the front end does fine. it feels more attached to the road when off roading with a load and feels fine on the highway. and 2011 has a gfawr of 6000 lbs.
@Dieselboy350 You are partially right, the steering IS weak on these trucks, but for under $300,a set of tie rod sleeves and Cognito braces fixes that issue and still rides like a Caddi. My well used IFS truck doesnt eat half as many parts as some SFA trucks out there, so nothing wrong with a stock height IFS truck that gets the job done and doesnt rattle your fillings out.
@desktop100 I guarantee you with a SFA you would never eat any parts going through terrain like this and with a load like that. Yes, there a fixes. But why pay $300 for parts when an IFS system is hardly heavy at all? It would make more sense to get something that won't break in the first place.
@Dieselboy350 What do you suggest then (with an IFS) that would make sense? Keep in mind I just did 1100kms in an 02 F250 that I wish I had the last 10 hours of my life back. Which truck (or did someone imply) that I ate parts in this type of terrain with that load. At the time it didnt even have tie rod sleeves...
Guess I could buy an 2011 with a 6000lb (IFS) front end - but $300 for upgraded steering parts in my 2005, no DPF = one tuff truck that gets 13.9 in the 1/4 mile isnt too bad.
@Dieselboy350 Well then you haven't seen a whole lot of shit then. I've seen SFA's bust but I'm talking about tie-rods and steering components, they all wear and break. And for $300 you can make a chevy 8 lug IFS damn near indestructible.
"No matter where the job site takes you. The new Chevy Silverado with Duramax and Allison trans can get you there" that's what it would say if this was a commercial :)
see ford and dodge fans? like a rock. not in the way as sinking and and not moving, (look here^^^^) like a rock as in it can go through anything, while hauling anything.
ok so i really want to trade my truck in for a diesel and i have no idea whether to get chevy or ford so if somebody was buying the truck for you which would you choose
@SecularTechnology dont know what world you're living in, but the 6.5's had a whole mess of problems, blocks cracked left and right, along with heads, bad harmonic balancer(which led to crank problems), and of course the infamous PMD.... far from a success... so you looked at the "current gen engine" and didnt see isuzu stamped on it? no shit... for you to see where isuzu is stamped on parts in a duramax you need to spend a day tearing it apart, not just peeking under the hood.
The Injector pump as I said WAS the fucking PMD problem. Many people called in the injector pump, but it was really the PMD. That's what I said. yes the blocks cracked more than the norm. Not fucking left, and right by any means. Same thing with the Harmonic balancer, it wasn't as good as the norm HD diesel but it wasn't a huge OMFG!!!! Issue. Please, it seems like you just got this information from a Forum.
The reason it wasn't spoken of very hot, was the PMD.
@SecularTechnology I was simply mentioning the PMD idiot... pointing out that it really cant be a "success" with all those issues... woooo, you "engineered" a damn alternator! you were such an integral part of it all! Ever look at the FICM? big letters, ISUZU, I've seen it...ON MY DURAMAX. Wow man...type 2 or 3 more comments, I'm not wasting my breath anymore
Are you serious? We are talking the NEW Diesel. The new Diesel doesn't have the Isuzu logo on the FICM. Hell the FICM wiring harness is at the side of the alternator. I saw the damn thing all the time.
Apparently you don't know jack shit about new Duramax. I was on the Engineering team for the God damn alternator, and was able to oversee a lot of the engine construction. One of the terms thrown around was how they have totally strayed from Isuzu.
You dumb little fucking shit head. The Tranny is NOT the engine. The best tranny is Allison which is AMERICAN you shit head. The modern Duramax doesn't have any Izuzu work what so ever.
invest in some tie rod sleeves

@justcallmejoeable hey do you know who designed the engine in that truck?
austin32m 10 months ago
@austin32m yes but the badging is still american. there all made in mexico nowadays anyway :/
justcallmejoeable 10 months ago 2
@justcallmejoeable thats true but the fact that the motor is designed by isuzu is funny with all the jap crap comments floating around.

Haha enjoy the ride home with bent tie rods. Stupid IFS shouldn't be on a truck that size.
Dieselboy350 1 year ago
@Dieselboy350 You are partially right, the steering IS weak on these trucks, but for under $300,a set of tie rod sleeves and Cognito braces fixes that issue and still rides like a Caddi. My well used IFS truck doesnt eat half as many parts as some SFA trucks out there, so nothing wrong with a stock height IFS truck that gets the job done and doesnt rattle your fillings out.
desktop100 1 year ago 3
@desktop100 what does IFS and SFA mean?
smokey1858 1 year ago
@smokey1858 Independent front suspension and Solid front Axle
desktop100 1 year ago
@desktop100 actually its torsion bar suspension plus the new chevys are belly draggers

@desktop100 that wasnt me if thats what u thought, i asked but whoever this guys is, tried proving you wrong
smokey1858 1 year ago
@Law460 Actually its IFS.
with torsion bars..........dumbass.
DanEdwardsMusic 1 year ago
@desktop100 I guarantee you with a SFA you would never eat any parts going through terrain like this and with a load like that. Yes, there a fixes. But why pay $300 for parts when an IFS system is hardly heavy at all? It would make more sense to get something that won't break in the first place.
Dieselboy350 1 year ago
@Dieselboy350 What do you suggest then (with an IFS) that would make sense? Keep in mind I just did 1100kms in an 02 F250 that I wish I had the last 10 hours of my life back. Which truck (or did someone imply) that I ate parts in this type of terrain with that load. At the time it didnt even have tie rod sleeves...
Guess I could buy an 2011 with a 6000lb (IFS) front end - but $300 for upgraded steering parts in my 2005, no DPF = one tuff truck that gets 13.9 in the 1/4 mile isnt too bad.
desktop100 1 year ago
@Dieselboy350 SFA's wear and break parts too.
DanEdwardsMusic 1 year ago
@DanEdwardsMusic The only SFA I've ever seen bust was a Dana 30 off of a Jeep Cherokee.
Dieselboy350 1 year ago
@Dieselboy350 Well then you haven't seen a whole lot of shit then. I've seen SFA's bust but I'm talking about tie-rods and steering components, they all wear and break. And for $300 you can make a chevy 8 lug IFS damn near indestructible.

Thats a truck!!!

The old 6.5's had problems with the injector pump when released, other than that it was a great diesel engines.
SecularTechnology 1 year ago
@SecularTechnology umm, the 6.5's had alot more problems than what you're saying... Would take a 12v or 7.3 over that any day, and I'm GM all the way
jpnmn 1 year ago
@jpnmn
Umm No it really didn't. It was actually considered a success. I looked at the current gen Engine. Wasn't anything with Isuzu stamped on it.
SecularTechnology 1 year ago
@SecularTechnology dont know what world you're living in, but the 6.5's had a whole mess of problems, blocks cracked left and right, along with heads, bad harmonic balancer(which led to crank problems), and of course the infamous PMD.... far from a success... so you looked at the "current gen engine" and didnt see isuzu stamped on it? no shit... for you to see where isuzu is stamped on parts in a duramax you need to spend a day tearing it apart, not just peeking under the hood.
jpnmn 1 year ago
@jpnmn
SecularTechnology 1 year ago
@SecularTechnology I was simply mentioning the PMD idiot... pointing out that it really cant be a "success" with all those issues... woooo, you "engineered" a damn alternator! you were such an integral part of it all! Ever look at the FICM? big letters, ISUZU, I've seen it...ON MY DURAMAX. Wow man...type 2 or 3 more comments, I'm not wasting my breath anymore
jpnmn 1 year ago
@jpnmn
Are you serious? We are talking the NEW Diesel. The new Diesel doesn't have the Isuzu logo on the FICM. Hell the FICM wiring harness is at the side of the alternator. I saw the damn thing all the time.
SecularTechnology 1 year ago
@jpnmn
Apparently you don't know jack shit about new Duramax. I was on the Engineering team for the God damn alternator, and was able to oversee a lot of the engine construction. One of the terms thrown around was how they have totally strayed from Isuzu.
SecularTechnology 1 year ago
did you guys pass by a stuck ford by any chance on your way through there?

I think Chevy/GM should drop the Duramax and let an American company make their engine.
SecularTechnology 1 year ago
@SecularTechnology Gm makes the duramax dude, in Moraine Ohio.
mellenjuice 1 year ago
@SecularTechnology ur a dumbass. americans cant make a good diesel. just look at their trannys. they suck. stick with the duramax
xgamesboarder95 1 year ago
@xgamesboarder95
You dumb little fucking shit head. The Tranny is NOT the engine. The best tranny is Allison which is AMERICAN you shit head. The modern Duramax doesn't have any Izuzu work what so ever.
