I know a girl got killed there recently, and no offense intended to her at all, but that is unfortunately because she let a sketchy guy into her apartment. There was nothing security could have done to prevent that.
Great, so you're a creeper. Duly noted. To everyone else slamming this video... there has been a 95% decrease in the overall amount of crime on campus since it was posted. Also, most of you clearly didn't listen to what she was saying. You're not supposed to run around looking for a guard at night if you're by yourself. You call gosafe and a team come and pick you up and WALK you to your destination. Mr. Creeper, the shuttle is an entirely separate service.
the funniest thing is that you only see the police patrol and campus security for a week after we make news and then they vanish... so very temporary are this measures.... It scares me. n oo need I say that they only highlighted the "safer looking areas??" so who knows how safe the field between the Health nursing Building, the Library and Atkinson is?? .... They should get more serious about this matters!!
securities are as useless as those lcd screens. theres at least one robbery or assault a day; what a joke. York should eliminate their security department and bring Toronto Police crew on campus in order to call themselves 'university'
@freestylekkkkk those lcd screens are nice man, it's nice to see the weather updates without having to look at cp 24 or get the time without looking at my phone
The words "security" and "York University" don't belong in the same sentence. The security guards are useless and you can never find one when you need on. This video is a joke.
Great to see the steps that YorkU is taking to enhance the safety of students and staff. Every student can take ownership of their personal safety on campus with a new service called Guardly. Guardly turns your smartphone into a powerful new personal safety service. If you ever find yourself in a bad situation and need help, 1-tap on can instantly alert and connect you to campus security via voice conference, sms, email, location and web. Guardly is a free download at guardly.com
All these security measures haven't done anything to decline the amount of violence that has happened in the past few months at York. Good try! Perhaps monitoring who enters the school during certain hours would be sufficient.
@fra1989 Right, because that's totally feasible to implement at a public institution. What are you going to do, set up checkpoints and surround the place with fences? Get real.
@LeechStreet It is totally feasible to implement in a public institution. Ryerson and University of Toronto do not allow anyone into their school's past 10pm, you need a valid student ID to do so.
Great to see York step it up on security. I think the lights and the patrols will make a big difference.

Girls pretty cute, but she's talking weird lol
York is unsafe and will always be unsafe unless they get some real police to patrol campus...not security guards that no one ever sees
