Lewis spent his youth in a real rough area of East London. Wanna go there doubters, try taking a walk through there during the night.
What is this depsisement that Yank commentators have for British fighters?
Oh yeah, they don't consider themselves to be American, they call themselves Irish and they hate Brits. I've never known a Brit fighter beat a yank (Calazaghe aside), when these US press bums didn't make pathetic excuse for their man. Yank fight fans, sorest losers on planet earth.
Sad that Lennox Lewis was denied the respect he deserved as the best fighter of the 90's and 00 until Mike Tyson finaly decided to stop run from "same era" rival Lennox Lewis anf ought him in 2002. Riddick Bowe dident want to fight Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson dident want to face Lennox Lewis but Evander Holyfield wanted to fight them all and that was the spirit those 2 should have had as boxers. Tyson cant blame becuse he should have been in his physical prime between age 29-36 like the best was
@donkeykongcoin yeah but swarmer boxers have a short shelf life, specially one who was in and out of prison, that's not to take anything away from lewis tho
Tyson was so different when he came on the scene looing so chiselled and squat compared to some of the portly, tall heavies around at the time. His punch rate, power and speed were also amazing in contrast to his peers. Despite his incredible competitive advantages though when some well trained heavies turned up meaning business he was a bit lost. Still a top 10 all time heavyweight in my view.
@GriffinNoel1 I agree Lewis would win even tho im more of a tyson fan. Both have suspect chins and have been the victims of major upsets in their prime as buster douglas and oliver mccall will attest to.
@GriffinNoel1 Lol You dont know what your talking about. Tyson in his prime was a complete boxer who was trained by Cus and Kevin in the Peek a boo style that was a complex system to master. If you look at his fights from 85 to 88 he was impossible to hit and was a brutal body puncher. Head hunter? Look at the Reggie fight were the first 55 sec was body shots. Knocked down Alfonso with a right to the body/uppercut. Spinks body shot, Green,Briggs,Tucker,Tubbs,Pinklon,Holmes,Bruno! Lewis sucked!
@b7r7u7c7e i agree with you on the fact that tyson was a great athlete and way better then most people give him credit for. But Holmes was one of the best heavyweights ever and lewis didnt suck either...
@1978utreg I think Lewis had the same problem as Holmes. He came around the time when the pubic was in awe of Tyson. As Holmes came at the time of Ali even though Ali was way past him prime. Whats interesting about Tyson was although he was still young with out Rooney his skills was average. And by the time he got to lewis fat and out of shape. I think he was 234! Keep in mind fighters cut weight at the time so he was close to 240. On Lewis he also got no respect for being British.
@b7r7u7c7e tyson never had a great prime atg against him when he himself was in his prime...He sure was great, but how great is allmost impossible to tell because of the opposition he faced in the early stages of his carreer...
@b7r7u7c7e you dont know anything watch the pinklon tomas fight, if the ripped glove incident had never of happend thomas would of won he was 5 rounds to 1 at the time, bonecrusher smith fight was another one, if bruno knew what he was doing he could of knocked mike out, he has 2 legs 2 arms a head and a body dont make him out to be super man.
really what proof do you have of that, lewis had destroyed the MUCH better competition tyson never fought anyone like a prime lewis without loosing, so shut the fuck up..
@EllSieMovies i have little tolerance for people who voice their poinion with nothing to back it up , break it down for me , based on what you assumed that tyson would've killed lewis in two rounds or less ? are you saying james smith is better than lennox ? are you saying buster is better than lennox ?and what about ony tucker ?
tyson and lennox used to spar when they were around 17 tyson used to kill lennox then one day lennox figured how to beat him.. so lennox had already beaten tyson before they fought at pro
Well, HBO can't do a documentary of Tyson - Holyfield since those fights were on Showtime. Tyson - Spinks? Too short and lopsided to call it a legendary fight and only works as a reference to point out Mike Tyson's peak as a fighter. Lewis - Klitschsko would be cool. How about Jones Jr - Ruiz or Jones Jr - Tarver? De la Hoya - Mayweather as a fight with a lot of hype and little substance just like De la Hoya - Trinidad and to show also what an overrated boxer De la Hoya always was.
There needs to be a super heavyweight class for people 240+ Lewis, Klitschko, Valuev have too much of a weight advantage against fighters who weigh under 220
Mike Tyson. The most compelling sports personality of all time. Period.
Till the day I die I doubt any athlete anywhere will conjure up the raw electricity of a Mike Tyson fight from the 80's. I remember all of us chipping in to buy the fights in high school just to see what would happen.
mike was so old in this fight, waaay past his young prime. Lennox Lewis would be another victim of mike had this fight taken place in the '80s or early 90's not long after buster douglas.
according to a documentary i saw some just convert to islam for the protection in prison. else you have to join on of the other gangs which require initiation and your never safe
@GuzzyVision yes tyson is still a muslim. he stated that he origionally converted to an extreme sect of muslim whilst in prison because he was so angry, but, after he got out and even in the movie, "TYSON" iron mike talks about how his muslim faith provides inner peace and sanctum for any who are in need. mike said he understands now that his religion is about peace and brotherhood, not hatred.
Tyson was one of the best boxers of all time, no doubt. In his prime he would be a match for anyone in history. But the thing is, after being arrested and released from prision, he was never the same.

Tyson vs. Douglas was the end for Mike Tyson as the world's unstoppable Heavyweight Champion.
Tyson's two fights with Holyfield were the end for Mike Tyson as a legitimate prizefighter.
This fight was the end of 'Mike Tyson' as a name that could bring big crowds and big money.
A rather sad career-ending span of 15 years for a man I consider to be one of the most iconic and compelling American athletes to ever live.
