  • Is the St. David's Flag a right-wing flag,

    like the St. Georges's Flag??

  • No. It is the oldest designed flag in the U.K. It was not prominent until the Welsh Tartan Centre used it on St. Davids Tartan regalias and via media and PR promoted it's use. The business ordered and distributed hundreds of St Davids flags on a regular basis, as well as flying them in prominent Cardiff Centre locations. It slowly caught on and now is to be seen everywhere. It does not appear on the Union flag even though the oldest as England said the St. Georges X represented Wales.

  • I was born March 1st.

  • me too happy birthday dude !

    from gwent

  • The oldest designed national flag is the saltire which dates from the 9th century.

The welsh flag with the dragon and green and white backgroud was designed in the 1960s.

  • It wasn't designed in the 1960s, it was made the national flag in the 1960s.

  • When was it designed then ?

  • Cymru am Byth!!

  • Happy St. David's Day to you and all of my welsh brothers and sisters, today is our day and there's no better feeling than being welsh. granted we lost to france in six nations, we won't win the grand slam and cardiff city lost to southampton, but like true welshmen, they fought til the end, cymru am byth my brothers and sisters and have a VERY happy Saint David's Day. :D

  • I used to be very accepting of people who wore the kilt, be they scottish, american, irish, welsh or english. But for fucksake. We have even heard that the austrians were the first to wear kilts. I am sick of the this fake history bullshit. the kilt was exclusive to 16th century scotland END FUCKING OF

  • was watching QI the other day turns out the kilt came from ireland with the gaels when scotland was still devided just before the first kings of scotland :P anyways kilt's just a good way to wear the tartan for all three of us shouldn't be a problem really

  • the kilt didnt come from irleand. They were refering to the irish leine that was worn by the gaels. The kilt was developed seperatley hundreds of years after the gaels settled from ulster

  • hmm ok, i think its just a good way of wearing the tartan, so all three of us can wear it i think. i mean traditional styles of clothes hae always influenced other coutries, japan - all wearing westernised clothing wasn't that way that long ago. But anyhows id be prowd to wear the kilt of saint davids at a rugby match, looks good with a welsh shirt while where mopping up everyone in europe :D

  • As I have said before the kilt was NOT developed from the romans. The kilt (and sporran) was developed in 16th century scotland, thats a long time after the fucking romans. Go and intrude on someones elses culture. you are making this shit up as you go along

  • original britons we are, bagpipes and kilt-tartan have always been apart of wales just declined as western/modern culture evolved, but theres a stronger use of them today, and to right its our heritage. its only better known in the world as being scottishor irish becauseof their deep ties with americawho they market to heavily. we just dont sell areselves in the same way, but hey we named america, gave it 9 presidents, faught in the civil war, gave it its navy and the declaration of independance

  • The irish and the welsh NEVER wore kilts. The kilt was developed in 16th century scotland and was NOT worn before. There is no historical evidence, no written documentation, no eye witness accounts nothing. The celts did not wear kilt they wore trousers. How can you say that the welsh wore kilts with a straight face. Dont be ridiculous. The kilt is scottish and only scottish. Oh and the irish kilt was developed in the 20th century for ignorant americans.

  • i said kilt-tartan, tartan are our national colours how we wear them is up to us wether it be a kilt or trousers, doesnt belong to one culture originated in one pool of culture before we were divided. besides looks better on us with a welsh top on whilst where cleaning up in the six nations!

  • errr nah, its scottish and always has been, by wearing a welsh top with it, ur just totally humiliating yourself.

  • I am also a scottish nationalist, I always have been and so are my parents. However I hate this neo celtic bull. And I get angry at the victim mentality that these celts display. They whine about how the english did this and how the english did that. The scots right now in parliment are screwing up england and the other nations so lets stop acting like were such goddamn victims. I like the english as much as I like the welsh. anti englishness is ridculous and for the small minded

  • I dont understand why non scots wear kilts either, it is like japanese people wearing lederhosen.

  • The Irish, Manx, Breton, Cornish all are to be seen at the great Celtic parades (e.g. L'Orient) wearing kilted dress. We proudly stand alongside them. Sad that you are condemnatory. I understand though, it's how I felt when I first saw a proud Scot fighting in the English army and wearing their uniform.

  • The irish do not wear kilts my dad is irish and I have lived in ireland. The irish kilt was marketed at the ignorant irish american market. May I point out that there are no more welsh kilt wearers than english kilt wearers. The kilt is not celtic dress, the celts wore trousers and the celts do not exist anymore.

Calling yourself a celt nowdays is ridiculous. itts like calling germans goths or italians romans.

  • Cymru am byth :-)

  • agus Alba gu Bragh

  • I admire Scots, Irish and English and their achievements. They are beautiful countries. Brittany, Ireland etc, have kilted marching bands. Scotland has achieved with whisky, hogmanay, golf, monsters and haggis. Good luck to them. Wales currently has world boxing champions, global superstar actors and actresses, world superstar singers etc., and a Grand Slam rugby team! I do not speak Welsh but respect who do, as I respect Gaelic.(Scots & Irish). I am proud to be Welsh. Thanks for your comments

  • davekr - The English are disgusting. What is English today being a radical muslim or a wanabee gangster? English people have no self respect, they come to your country take your money commit crime and its okay. They want jihad and sharia law, they bomb your capital and English people say you must respect them????? i hope all soliders in Afgan and Iraq never come back!!!

  • It helps to distinguish us from ignorant trouser wearers - The Welsh Language is the oldest surviving extant European language. Perhaps you think your great grandmother is disgusting because of its age. All I know is, I was deprived of my beautiful mother tounge because of the racist policies of imperialist Sais bastards. By the way, the Kilt was worn in Britain before the Scots even came over from Ireleand. Some of the earliest images of Kilts are from ancient greece -

  • athmawr the kilt was NOT worn in britian, the ancient british wore trousers. This was widely documented by the romans.

Where the fuck do you get this shit. Do you just make it up. show me one reputable link that describes the british as kilt wearers.

  • Oh arthmawr your ana american, that shows your ignorance. I should have known.

  • Not american, A Welshman living in America

  • One must understand that the Picti (the inhabitants of Calidonia, before it became Scotland), copied the Romans in just about everything: from kilts (taken from the Roman basic tunic), to bagpipes (what the Romans marched to), even to the sporan, which is based on the chain-mail to protect a legionary's groin, now transformed into a purse!

  • Tratns have been developed and worn throught the world. Specifically by the chinese and the african masai nwarriors. YOU said the welsh wore kilts, you said the britons wore kilts. That is bullshit. The picts did NOT wear kilts, The romans did NOT wear kilts. The kiltis a aspecific garment. The romans wore a TUNIC ; NOT afucking kilt. If you need to invent an identity go and wear some lederhosen, that as as much historical value to the welsh as the SCOTTISH kilt. (NONE)

  • What's disgusting is your ignorance and pig-headedness. Cer i grafu.

  • @davekrkham what a joke of a human you are.

  • @davekrkham I might be a little late to comment on your asshole comment/ But your wrong, I do have alot to be proud of, first and foremost, Im proud Im Welsh and that your not! No nationality is going to lay claim to you, cause your an asshole..

  • Thank you very much for filling the glaring gap left by the official Welsh media who seem to ignore this great event. My da was St. David and I am here in Florida so it was great to be able to watch this. Diolch yn Fawr
