  • hahah you can tell they have never got laid

  • LED color exaggerate alot, i find LCD gives the true color of what it's suppose to appear..LED are cool for gaming cuz all of the colors pop out....LCD is bad for editing, cuz it exaggerate and ur final product on a different screen will look different.

  • OMG! he explained my problem with my LED monitors how I get the snowy distorted effect. My new monitor "NEC" is backlit with CCFL and looks so much better. LED backlights are a gimmick and just conserve energy. CCFL is the way to go for quality. New CCFLs are just as bright if not at times brighter than LED.

  • Oh, so that's the difference. I literally thought that LED TVs had LEDs for every individual pixel, resulting in a sharper and more vibrant image... that's not a bad idea, I should patent that shit!

  • @ShortFingeredShreder

LED sounds a bit wonky because of the transition from 'white's' going to grey and color varients. bummer....Unless you can turn that dimming feature off. What i want to know is, do LED's set off the same ugly Dismal, bland, pissy and drab uncolorful glow like LCD's do? since LCD's use a CFL/Flueroscent back.... My other Plasma on the other hand sets off a beautiful glow.

  • LCD SUCKS MEGADICK! I PUNCHED THE FUCK OUT OF IT TODAY LOL!

  • finally lockergnome didnt use a calculator to capture the video... :P

  • LCD for work.... LED for gaming.. Got it.

  • I went with a 60 inch DLP 3D and man for the money I am verry happy. The HD is good and when we watch a 3D HD movie....WOW!!!

  • Thanks this helped made up my mind, I'm going with the LED:)

  • LCd's suck for using it has a computer...the videos are so blurry

  • twitch at 0:57

  • I game alot and the tv is somewhat close and I am looking up on it somewhat, what is best? I do not want the gray and white area web you are looking at it from below

  • *twitch*

  • this was very helpful, thanks nerds!

  • i'm a 3d animator, and sometimes i edit videos. is stil the conventional lcd screen my best option?

  • LED = Better contrast ratio is not usually true. Only very high end led backlit screens use local dimming. 90% of 'LED Screens' still use traditional top and bottom lighting which is diffused to make the light even(ish). Its just they use 50 or so led's for the lighting rather then CCFL.

  • Im glad people are starting to realise that LCD and LED TV's are esentially the same thing.

Usually what happens is the guy in the TV shop will happily try and missell you a new 50" LED TV on the basis that the whole panel is a new technology, most of them dont even know the difference.

  • I prefer LED LCD screens for computing and some of the newest LCD screens have pretty good contrast levels.

  • Good video. Nice and correct explanation in 2 minutes flat.

  • this guy is good

  • LEDs are thinner too!

  • @Linerriderrocks123 just for a fkn letter u make a hole deal! U stupid basterd!! English is not my main language!! And i am assuming by speaking 2 languagues that makes me smarter than ur scary ass!!

  • osd vs lds go

  • We all ready know what is the didrence now make some good videos cus they are stupid and boring!!

  • @ps31871 If you can't even spell properly I will assume you don't even finish elementary school.

  • I'd take my LCD P-IPS monitor over a LED TN monitor ANY and EVERY day!

  • @mayhempk1 What "P-IPS" and "TN" stand for ?? I also found out the LED is not a good option as a personal taste and specially for photo and video editing, but I'm want to learn more around why ....

  • @ermollejuo Google it, P-IPS is professional in plane switching, which is the latest standard of IPS, tn is twiested nematic.

  • I thought the only LED LCD screens that were better than CCFL were RGB LED's.

  • how bout STD? LMFAO FTW

  • AMD's APU vs CPU Go!

  • Rubbish! Dynamic contrast ratio is NOT that big of deal. It hardly matters really. And I can live with higher power consumption. Only thing I can see LED being good for is a brighter screen.

  • It's time for OLED....

  • think he forgot edge-lit LED

    OLED

    and RGB backlight

  • For sure them singles

  • Is wrong to call an LCD display with LED back-light a LED display.

What will you call the LED display then?.

  • led - better contrast true black and less energy consumation lcd - no true black poor colours SLOW picture reaction and a little bit more energy consumation

  • @poweruser213 that's complete chickenshit.

  • Would be Even better if you provided some examples on your vids to help the noobs! like me for instance lol

  • @lockergnome I really like your vids with Brandon Wirtz, does he have his own channel?

  • Chris looks confused LOL !!!

  • I have Sony Bravia LCD HDTV and I love it! <3

  • god this vid is pretty funny

  • led duh.

  • Really good to know - I sell TV's.

  • also led monitors can be very slim

  • how bout LCD vs led in stead of cf LCD vs led LCD

  • I love my LED monitor

  • I did not know that :)

  • LED makes my head hurt because it looks too real it looks fake.

  • i got top comment :D

  • I think you forgot about OLED? :/

  • sorry Brandon but I had to correct ya on that part about "if you're editing video or using it as a computer monitor" ask any REAL professional video editor, then copy and paste what i commented below. :D cheers

  • IPS panel monitors use 8bit per color thus allowing them to fully reproduce 100% of the color gamut.Other panel monitors including MVA (multi-domain vertical alignment), PVA (pattern vertical alignment panels), AFFS (advanced fringe field switching), and ASV (advanced super view) are desirable for this reason as well. Modern IPS monitors can reproduce 10 bit per color and display up to 1.07 billion colors or 1024 shades of red, green, and blue. . There ya go. so Pirillo what now? :D

  • Photo editing requires precise color reproduction. Standard TN or twisted nematic monitors can only reproduce a portion of the color gamut because they use 6 bits per color (Red, Green, Blue) for a total of 18 bits. This makes them unable to display the 16.7 million colors available in 24-bit truecolor or 256 shades of red, green and blue. While dithering can be used to produce some of the desired colors a TN monitor is simply undesirable when trying to match exact colors.

  • most professional video editors that know from experience know that MOST lcd's that have teh typical ccfl backlighting are most often TN panels which are NOT the best panels for video editing. this where IPS paneled displays like apple's cinema display shine and why many professional video editors praise it. main reason ....?

  • Well I dont know how my tv can be compared since it is an LED LCD TV :$ I always thought an LED was like an energy saver and it makes the screen brighter and a little more clear

  • What about that PCP?

  • Does this dude read any special magazines or books? How does he know so much specific details about tech stuff?

  • @otamanlvhs My guess is HE WENT TO SCHOOL!

  • @dfectus School is not the only place you can learn things.

  • @otamanlvhs Dude, he is like 38 years old.

  • you forgot edgeled lcds

  • thats good to know. good thing i got a 120Hz acer monitor LED ftw ^_^

  • does Brandon Wirtz have his own channel?

  • More nerd talk, i love it!

  • AMOLED!!

  • Thank God for these intelligent people.... I really needed to understand this difference between LCD LED ...ODD... OCD HDAD...

  • @lockergnome I stick with Samsung LCD (not LED) for my PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii. I play the PS3 through HDMI and the Wii through component. I'm perfectly happy with it. =) I have the TV and game systems on my computer desk and I sit at my desk to game. I do that so that I can multi-task while gaming. Can you do a comparison with LCD vs. LED vs. OLED vs. Plasma?

  • OMG I HATE THE SONY VAIO ADD

  • the opinion is very shallow. an elementary nerd pupil can answer the question. but which one lasts longer, an LCD or an LED?

  • @blizza20 maybe the LED, LEDs last longer than the "lamp" from the LCD

  • @182oliver but led's will never last as long as the modernized crt bulb in a plasma..

  • what about LSD?

  • @c4rt00nk1d High dynamic range, best plasma/slime effects, 3D without the need for glasses, full-body-like motion experience, but, low refresh-rates. Also prone to forgetting settings, unwanted channel switching and occasional blackouts. Worst of all, no sleep/standby-mode.

  • @stormyandcold *Thumbs you up.*

  • @c4rt00nk1d that will totaly mess up the color

  • Finally! Explain!

  • LCD "tubes" aren't always top or bottom or both alot are through the centre vertically if it's 1

  • Great video. I like my u2410 even though its not LED

  • and about energy consump?

  • I dont even care about This stuff but you make it interesting..

  • Chris seems like he really doesn't care! lol

  • @Grandtheft37 chris is "acting like us". asking him the questions not for him but us.

  • THANK YOU! about time someone explained this. I can finally send people one easy link when they ask me, instead of having to explain.

Of course, I didn't know that little bit about the LED's themselves turning off or on... interesting.

Also, on a side, if the image is totally black, the CFL in my computer monitor will dim out (taking the LCD image with it).. which can be VERY odd in some sections of Portal 2, since it has to brighten back up, and the image "fade in"

    Eh, still love my screen.

  • i like these videos very interesting stuff thanks

  • Should have really mentioned local dimming technology, edge lit vs. fully backlit, the number of LEDs a TV might have, as well as the "flashlighting" effect and the "clouding" effect. All pretty important things to note when comparing an LED to an LCD TV. This video was a bit too general and not very informative unlike your other videos.

  • Great video! Useful information.

  • Good video, except you didn't mention the difference between border LEDs and the ones with the LEDs behind the panel. Please do a longer video about his subject and count in Plasma and OLED.

  • LED is only good if its full LED (the whole backside of the screen is covered with LED-s), Most of the TV-s marketed today only have that crappy edge LED (where LED-s are only on the top and bottom edge of the screen) that may be (depending on the screen technology) even worse than CCFL (more backlight bleed). Full LED with local dimming is the king amongst LCD-screens at the moment IMO (not counting the OLED which is totally different tech).

  • Good to know!

  • PLASMA FOR THE WIN!!!

  • @halo27legend ya if you want your image burned in after excessive usage, sure plasma ftw!

  • @bryandesrosiers where you been? This was true on older model plasmas, but the newer models have pretty much eliminated this issue. Get up to date before you show your ignorance. : P

  • lcd = bettar colors duke the colors!

  • LED, all the way for me. I have an led hd tv (amazing preformens for movies/tv/gaming) and I also have an led screen for my mac (its an iMac) and its still the best screen compared to the regular lcd monitors in the shops... And believe me I am very picky in my colors and contrast....

  • chris, that dude stays in your house?

  • WoW, This was very Good!

    Thanks Brandon and Chris!

  • this is one of your most relevant videos in a while! :) good job Chris i have subscribed again.

  • The problem with this video is that there are two different types of LED backlit LCD panels. There is localized dimming, which is what the guy above describes and there is LED's use just like the CFL bulbs where there is a line of LED's on the sides of the display. The advantage of LED's used in the latter manner are, MUCH longer lifespan, lower power, higher brightness, and the most important, a larger color gamut. The reason for the color gamut is the difference in the way CFL and LED work.

  • lol Chris hates when people ask him what is better then asks it himself.

  • i asked so many people and tis is the answer i wanted to know!

  • Plasma is just all around bad in my opinion.... big power consumption, runs hot, glossy screen, and you can see the little squares throughout the screen...... yuck!

  • for gaming LCD is better than plasma

  • leds and supposed to burn images into them more easily than a plasma. I would be hesitant to buy one.

  • Great video, Chris! I hope you'll do a Plasma video soon too.

  • is it just me or is Chris looking older?

  • LED is LCD. you can't compare them. it's like saying "what's better, dictatorship or communism?" they are not on the same level. LCD is the visual technology. LED and CRT are like communism and capitalism-- two different types of SOCIETY (or display backlighting ;)

  • you guys should have a tv show lol

  • I feel like I'm in the perfect situation, I have an LED TV and a LCD monitor for computer games and video, that I sit much closer to when using it than the TV.

  • Wish plasma had been included in the discussion.

  • @poolboyinla Plasma is dead.

  • I'm liking these quick educational videos chris !!

  • hey chris is that your dad ?

  • What about the edge lit LED HDTVs?

  • Monitors are very confusing.

There are a few different types:

A CRT monitor is the very old type very thick.

A traditional LCD uses a cathode as a backlight, these are most common.

An LED LCD is just the same, but uses LEDs for the backlight. In most screens, there are far less LEDs than pixels, but I'm pretty sure there are expensive monitors with one LED per pixel, which spreads the light evenly.

OLED is a much newer technology, used to make very thin screens.

  • quite informative

  • what is the difference between LED, OLED, & AMOLED

  • So u wana say that old LCD monitors may be more accurate than the LEDs ....... This means that i don't have to upgrade to a new 1 ....... coz i m gona do some music editing and stuff in future what say>>??

  • Great video!

  • i really really like your videos , because latelly uve been reviewing alot of cool stuff and this new guy does amazing explanations. Ive learned alot of stuff , and ur videos seem quite punctual as in its like what people really want to know.

  • Hello there !

  • what about playing computer games, would it still be more appropriate to use LED?

  • @CorruptedPersona Yes, he just said that.

  • Comment removed

  • I have a lcd and a led monitor, i like my led more. The colors seem richer. plus the led runs so much cooler

  • An LED is a Light-emitting diode... You can't just call an LED backlit LCD an LED...

  • Were this videos made in the same afternoon? or does this guy now lives on your house to make this videos every day? XD just kidin cool videos chris

  • samsung are the ones that started that crap of calling LCD lit tvs "LED TVs"

  • Is it true that LCDs have higher brightness compared to LEDs?

  • That technology with LED dimming is garbage.. It's OK when it's daytime, but in the evening, you start to see distracting hallows around everything.

OLED (where each pixel is individually "illuminated") is the future.

@turgo82 Whiter doesn't mean more accurate, it means whiter ;)

  • Great Job! I was just looking at 2 TV's i was going to get. This was really helpful

  • Does the video seem to lag a bit to anyone else?

  • the guy looks confused

  • Plasma sucks! thats why they are so much cheaper...there is a chance that the image would get burned on the screen and kaput! thats it!...They do look nice though

  • @NigeriaHammad7 If you leave a still image on a LCD display for about 4-8 hours, it will burn itself into the display, but it will be gone after a hour of being turned off :)

  • @Aljoshin12 Thats interesting...I never knew that..hmmmm I guess they don't teach you EVERYTHING working at best buy lol its cool that goes away

  • @NigeriaHammad7 Yeah. Don't know about the new LCDs, but it did happen to my old 42" Philips :)

  • @Aljoshin12 Oh my..I have a 42 inch philips lol my goal is to move that one to my bed room and get something bigger....maybe a samsung in my living room

  • good video

  • What about LSD? That provides some great colour ;)

  • hmm led that was helpful

  • eh who cares you can still see the something right

  • Keep up these informative videos! I can send these to my family members rather than me try and explain it!

  • Tht was helpful

  • im always looking forward to these videos, keep em coming. =)

  • LED is way better it saves energy and has better contrast and stuff x)

  • LED if you look at an LCD anywhere but one way it goes dark. same with plasma exept that's just a negative image

  • i still love that opening

  • is component to dvi-d possible?

  • Thanks for the reply fusionet24

  • Great videos and very informative.

  • First it was HD, then Full HD, then 3d and now LED. Sounds like a big waste of money to me .

  • @EruIluvatar LED came slightly before 3d

  • IPS

  • what about OLED and Plasma??? i love these videos

  • @JMZ619 - Stay tuned.

  • @lockergnome What about IPS? and amoled

  • @lockergnome im drooling

  • @lockergnome i love my LCD Samsung Display, I've always admired Samsung's design's

And the quality of there products is great!

They have never let me down.

  • What's the difference between LED and OLED?

  • @Kilorel316 I'd explain it but it's quite complex to explain in about 500 characters, I'm sure @lockergnome will do a future video on it :)

  • @Kilorel316 A simple explanation would be that LED (when used in screen technologies) means they are the backlight source, not the main display, that remains, LCD. OLED displays are just that, LEDs that can illuminate themselves onto a display surface, almost becoming the image itself (after some technical wizardry).

  • Should be: ccfl or led. Don't confuse people.

  • @jorn89 - They're marketed as LCD and LED. It may be confusing to you, but these are the terms "normal" people are using at this point in time.

  • @lockergnome I asked this question right?

  • @lockergnome I second Chris, I don't know what CCFL means, and if I said this to anyone I know, they'd say "What?". If I said LCD they'd instantly think TV.
