Well it was pretty disappointing. We only traveled a few miles to where we watched it from, some people there had come from the other end of the country. To be honest there isn't much to see on the video, you can just make out a swell moving down the river.
I was hoping I would have something much better than this to show, but I felt that this was better than no video at all!
I've just got into riding the Severn bore, and have become a bit obsessed with the whole bore phenonemon, the video from last year showed the aegir at a rideable size with nobody surfing!! Bit of a culture shock when there can be over 50 people at any given spot in the severn!!
I've seen some videos of the Severn bore, it can make a big Trent bore look very weak! There are some more 3 star aegirs due in Gainsborough at the end of October, so I will be there just in case there is something to see this time!
I have been wondering myself if something had happened in the river! The wave seemed a lot faster to me, normally it has quite a slow approach. We went to see one in April and there wasn't even a ripple, the river just gently changed direction.
Oh dear!!....I was further north at susworth and it was no better there.
My theory is that the summer flooding scraped lots of silt out of the bottom of the river, which deepened it,which now means that it can accomodate the turn of the tide without showing an aegir. If that is true, it will be agood year before it silts up again and starts to have aegirs again.
you from round there?
