From as little as I know, she is honestly my best friend. Her words, her voice, her music, it all makes me feel safe. I took up singing 7 years ago, and I'm so thankful for that. Once I found her, I knew what I wanted in life.
The lyrics seem so simplistic in nature, but when it's all put together in such a powerful song- it's enough to bring a person to tears. She also says that all of mankind are NOW your brothers which means that before they weren't... another reason I think that human of the year is intended to be a sarcastic celebration is that the key is a little scary, implying this "honor" is actually a terrible fate.
I think this song is about dying and going to heaven. That's why the guy is so scared. The "icons" are angels and their balding spots are in reference to halos. I just bought her "Live in London" album...I had only heard a few of her songs until I stumbled upon a few songs on You Tube...There is no one way to describe her!...The way she integrates her music, lyrics, her at times quirky vocalizations, the ethreal tones that pours out of her. At times like a waterfall w/ so much energy, we could light the whole earth...at other times, like a Spring rain that cleanses ones very soul...WOW

And also, we dont make old men into icons or find cars honking some sort of message. Well, maybe some christians, but as for me and christian people I know, we dont think that at all :) I know sometimes maybe it seems that way, but really were just normal people. I'm pretty sure that being human of the year is bad. She specifically says "human" of the year, not human being, man, citizen, or anything that sounds positive, because humans make mistakes. She also says that all of mankind are NOW your brothers which means that before they weren't... another reason I think that human of the year is intended to be a sarcastic celebration is that the key is a little scary, implying this "honor" is actually a terrible fate.

I think this song is about dying and going to heaven. That's why the guy is so scared. The "icons" are angels and their balding spots are in reference to halos. Also, as the "Cathedral has spoken wishing well to all us sinners and grows silent 'til next years big human winner.'' Lastly, in some countries it is tradition to honk car horns in a funeral procession. Just my personal opinion.

What I do not understand though is, if you do not believe in the same God that I believe in, and if you truly think that it is a fictional story, then why do you get offended when I say that I'll pray for you? It's not just one person, christians as a group are ignorant and the complete opposite of accepting. They can't even contemplate that someone might think differently than them. You don't see it because you're a christian and you don't care, I sure as hell didn't back when I was a christian. It's just inexcusable to try to justify the actions of the majority in whatever group you belong to by saying everyone is an individual.

In this country, the amount of christians that are actually accepting of religious minorities are vastly outnumbered by the ones who aren't. @Gregd8888 There is a BIG difference between the way that some black people feel about the KKK and the way that you feel about Christians. The KKK had specific goals. Those goals were to harm certain groups of people, including that of black people. Christians do not share these goals. Christians also vary in beliefs. That is why there are different denominations of them. Therefore there is no valid reason for you to hate an entire group of people. There is just no justification for it.
