I agree, that part is where the trombones can really crack those bells! As long as the bass section is playing the correct notes, there can't be too much!

  • get away from the woodwinds i cant hear my trombones!

  • lack of balance could be due to the position of the video camera?

  • i could barely hear the percussion, and this tempo is waaay too fast for my taste, but then again im super picky

  • 7:35 needs to be more DIRTY!!!

  • @bandgeek630 As written :D

  • this song is really random.....

  • I'm playing this piece in my high schools spring concert.

  • not that bad for a really small beginning ensemble. CU - which university is this?

some suggestions: to play Blue Shades, balance is essential. The melody is EVERYWHERE, both hidden and obvious. It's essential that the bass instruments are heard and heard well. The trumpets and woodwinds completely overpower them - it sounded like there was only 1 or 2 tubas, and they have the melody a decent amount of times. (part 1)

  • (part 2)

at [143]'s double canon, i must quote Christopher Walken, "More cowbell!!!" - this is the driving rhythmic force that keeps the band together, but it wasn't even audible

    Keep working on it!

  • i cant here the bass clarinet part on there solo...

  • the ending splash cymbal is the best!! lol

  • i've played this piece in a wind ensemble i was in (just left it) and i was playing the part with the spash cymbal in. in the music it says it has to be a "six inch to eight inch splash" i remember that percussion part was great fun!

  • it was okay, but um

the Cadets definitely play it better

    =]

  • well i would hope the cadets play it better, lol

  • don't like the cadets arrangement though... don't get me wrong i love the cadets but in my opinion Ticheli wrote it the way he wanted to, nothing is better than the original.

  • nice one!

i love blue shades! so cool & sweet!

    keep on going guys. :D

  • Pretty good job. The recording could be a lot better, but it's a camcorder so you can't expect much. Articulations were either not there or not apparent. Phasing was a big problem. Don't worry, that was a big problem for a long time when my group did it too.

  • Fantastic! Can you post anymore selections from this concert?

    Well done guys!

  • sweeeeeet! :-)
