Nuthin fancy outtake, a great song. 70s rock was so badass, bands were made up of friends, not hand picked one by one by record company execs for their looks. They actually practiced in "hell houses" and toured for years in honky tonks honing their stuff. Skynyrd were street people, the real deal.
@HearingLossProvider Because all the so called "rock bands" of today have no soul, just money hungry in the right at the right time to make a million bucks. These guys NEVER saw money like they see today. If they wanted to make millions they had to keep on going long hours and stay on the road. They had passion, spirit and drive. Rock music today is written and produced by the "gimme gimme" era. Go in a music store and see what the kids are trying out for amps and guitars.
@MrPROUSA I can't go into a store without hearing at least one twelve year old awkwardly playing the intro to Sweet Child O Mine with a Dean Razorback through a Line 6 with way too much distortion.
@HearingLossProvider Excellent case in point..... I was in Guitar Center with my 1997 EVH Wolfgang Special plugged into a used Peavey 5150 II and the kid next to me was playing a Krank. I said try this amp out its much better. He said what is it, it looks old? I said yeah youre right nevermind..... LMFAO!!!!
Damn right. Tune into your local "new rock" station and see what passes as rock today. Nothing but over-distorted, dreary four-chord "songs" with no passion or energy or catchiness. And these no-talent poseurs are making millions. Lenny Kravitz is right, rock n roll is dead.
rock and roll is not dead it is not the main stream thing right now but there were other times where its has not been and the is plenty of people who like and still play good rock but it is people like you who are really killing it instead of just sitting there and saying "rock an roll is dead" get off your ass and play some GOOD OLE ROCK AN ROLL
Did anyone notice that Ronnie Van Zant was bare footed here ... he said he never wore shoes when performing so he could feel the heat from the stage! Just a lil FYI for ya! ;o)
i heard some one say vanzant blood 17 year old kid plays drums,,the band was ANTLER ANNIHILATION ,,they are on face book,, all i was told is that his dad is a cuz of the vanzants if that is true thier is one bad ass drummer up and coming and the music lives on they say the kid can play any and all types
@ThePearldemon i cant recall if it was the drummer,or guitarist.i can be wrong here, but i think it was robbie morris,of the johnny van zant band, was a cuz also!

@Freebirdbob burns dropped out during the nutin fancy album he did a few songs with them in the album but still dropped out because he had health condtions and was in bad shape
@Freebird109 Bob Burns played on Saturday Night Special..That was it...They picked up Artimus on a recommendation from Toy Caldwell...Artimus was living in Spartanburg,,SC...Did a rehearsal with Leon and Allen i believe and LS was in Nashville...Artimus and his wife met the band and RVZ hired him..Gave him some like 10,000 in a paper sack to get him started!

i likes to travel, i do likes to roam, but when i get that fever the boy got to go back home....i seen them city folks try to movin way down south, try to tell them swampin people, what its all about...i seen them city people try to live in the bayou// get your own home, if ya play boy a fool....way down south them cotton plays, you gotta be careful for the gators and the snakes
Ok. So we know it was an unreleased "Nuthin' Fancy" song, but is it actually on a CD? If so, what's it called & where can I find it ('cause I wan'na put this one on my MP3 player SOON!)?
Love Leons bass lines in this. Such a tough sound. Really way too bad it hasnt been released on one of Skynyrds re-releases as a bonus track. Would be a COOL cover for a band like Blackberry Smoke for their new CD this year.

Does anyone know the lyrics to this incredible song? I think I have most of them figured out, but there are a few spots where I am not sure. Any help would be appreciated.
Damn... I swear... who the hell decided NOT to release this song!? I'll bet they have a ton or more of unreleased gold that'll never see the light of day... what a shame
Rik Yarbrough wrote this, and also "Whiskey Rock-a-roller". He was the frontman and bass player for a band called "Cottonmouth" in Skynyrd's hometown.
@facemcnasty Totally, man. I could just see that flag: A cottonmouth superimposed over a Southern cross with the inscription "Don't Tread On Me!" Two great flags put together (substituting a Cottonmouth for a rattler), the sign of a true rebel and a true rebel people! Dude, I'm gonna get one of those made! I'll fly it in my yard if I ever have a yard! Maybe put the snake in striking pose, too, instead of crawling on the ground. Right on!
The lyrics were awkward.....you have to remember, during this time they were being pressured to come up with stuff in the studio; this song didn't have the benefit of being conjured up at hell house like all the other classics were. Half of NUTHIN' FANCY was just that, nothin' fancy....only one song written in the studio on the album was worth a hoot - Whiskey Rocka Roller. On the Hunt and Sat. Night Special were written at hell house.
@simpleman11585 oh man there has to be...I'm sure there are some that are still waiting on the shelf for future releases...this song here was given to me back in 1997 on a cassette tape...drove me crazy that they didn't finish it...
how about that picture? Ed King on BASS! Ronnie skinny as a rail and barefoot (as always, but in a bar? more dangerous than cottonmouth country!) And Rossington with his knees locked together. Where is this, Phunnochios?
thank you man u know i was just thinkin but i wanted to start a survey somehow about LS and CCR since both were only around 4 or 5 yrs, i just wanted peoples opinion on both groups pros and cons.
Funny you should say this... A friend of mine has pictures of Gary with his '58, a Goldtop, a sunburst Deluxe and a goldtop Deluxe. He also has Allen with a Flying V
I wish I had a time machine and I would go back to the 70's and hang with a bunch of heads the day the new Stones album came out or the day the new Skynyrd album came out, etc. Back when you had to go get it at the store. Would be a great time. Bell bottoms and super hair. And that sweet, sweet 70's music
i used to go to Goldblatt's dept. store in the 70's and thumb through all the albums. go home and listen to it, study the cover art, flip it over and hear the other side, its a totally different experience than poppin' in a CD or downloading a mp3 UGH! 1973 what a year!
noooo you don't understand what i meant. By that, i meant they should've tried harder to make this one with better sound quality and put it on an album. i love this song either way, don't get me wrong
I dont think this was meant to ba a master take, sounds like they're rehearsing material for the album. Bands would have to submit demos to the record companies, and often they'd be recorded on home equipment. He could have cut the song off for any number of reasons that arent apparent on the audio. Maybe he spilled his beer!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Hence the reason it was unreleased...not everything one records is album-worthy...it's only after death that slimey record people and germs decide EVERYTHING should be released.
The gold top les paul Gary is using actully belonged to Allen. His mother got it for him before she bought him his first firebird when he was seventeen.
I always can relate to Ronnie!I almost put my hand in a cottonmouth's mouth last June! Watch out while picking blackberries in Jacksonville...or a Skynyrdville!!!
Recorded during the Nuthin' Fancy sessions. Here's the only known unreleased studio recording by the original Skynyrd. The song is unfinished, and you can hear an annoyed Ronnie Van Zant yell "Cut" at the end of the song. Great song that would have fit right in on Nuthin' Fancy.
