  • There's a reason there are 0 dislikes.

  • This is my favourite song. I sung this song in front of my friends, and they really loved it.

  • can´t press like button enough...the best version!

  • Oh Liam what have you done to us poor mortal Irishmen...your pure heart your sweet voice..and your love that comes through every song...it makes it so hard for us to live up to..god bless you and your brothers..and thank you..you have shown the world where poetry and music meet.

  • @gerryk32 - I couldn't have said it better.

  • I just knew Paddy and Tommy to talk to. However I knew Bobby very well, he spent a lot of time in the States and of course Tommy Makem was just up the Road in Dover, New Hampshire. Nice Rural area up there along with Lake Winnepausaukee. Nice Areas to go to get awy from it all for a while and recharge the batteries.

  • I "love" this song. I don't have any particular reason to but I do.

    Eimear, my Bonnie Irish Lass, this song is from me to you with love!}}}}}}}

  • @buenavozalasdoce - There's something very romantic about the melody and the sadness of the song-- and of course Liam Clancy's soft voice and his gentle brogue.

  • at 2:20 when he reaches out to the crowd, spontaneously.. reaching out to them.... not a note he was playing and yet that is what a true musician is... right from the heart...no thought needed, just heart.

  • It's my birthday today, sing it for me Liam! :-)

  • @laboheme26 Happy belated birthday!

  • @earthlyradiodotcom

How kind of you, many thanks and my very good wishes to you :-)

  • I prefer this: "By yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie braes, Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomond. Where me and my true love were ever wont to gae, On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. Refrain: Oh ye'll take the high road and I'll take the low road, And I'll be in Scotland afore ye; But me and my true love will never meet again On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond."
  • Slaite kmnitz,.....and you would probably enjoy the renditions of Karie Oberg, Tommy Maken and The High Kings singing that wonderful song.

  • Oh, but he IS with us still! He lives!

  • that chorus will stick with me for the rest of my life! *wipes a tear from his eye*

  • does this song make anyone else sleepy or is it just me?

  • The best voice of any male singer I've ever hear.

  • My Dad sang me this song every night before I went to bed when I was little. It never fails to bring tears to my eyes.

  • @ScarletteMartin your comment just made me cry :)

  • @ScarletteMartin so did my Dad! I have the same reaction to this song.

  • Liam also does a wonderful version of Roisin Dubh. Thanks for sharing.

  • Sadly poor Liam is not too well at the moment ----lovely lovely ballad.

  • Yes my friend Liam is very good but i must say my best friend Tommy RIP was better than poor liam here.

  • So soulful and full of emotional appeal, Love it !

    Norfolk UK

  • such sweet and sad lyrics, typical soulful Irish, I love it.

  • The boys trained in theatre. There was a radio show hosted by Skip Weshner in the 60's. One night he had Liam and Tommy on live. Liam recited a poem in Gaelic, and it didn't matter that I didn't understand a word so great was the delivery.

  • If you can find it, listen to 'Ireland 1912-1919', it's a double albam but it includes a hell of a lot of great Celtic music in pubs. The topic of England in Ireland is also interesting.

  • gman liameen

  • because....your mind was clouded with modern 'music'!!!!up salthill

  • Beautiful!

  • One of the sweetest Irish songs. Clancy nails it every time!
