First off, Jordan could score way more than 81 points in todays NBA, back then a lot more contact was allowed, he would probably break the record for free throws as well.
i agree with scottie in this video, but i don't think anyone should ever be compared to michael jordan. michael is in a class of his own. kobe and lebron don't even come close to him. and mark jackson only hates jordan cause he used to make him look like shit back in the 90's
statistically no, Kobe is a great player and especially good in the clutch but he's like the lesser version of MJ in my opinion. He's capable of winning championships sure, once Lebron gets a ring i think a better argument will be comparing him to Jordan.
@Ninjabones13 you stupid delusional fucktards shouldnt be aloud to post! kobe dropped 81 on a bum toronto defense toronto had the worst defense that yr which he took 46 shots to do it smh he a selfish ballhog plus wack jalen rose was guarding him who aint known for defense lmao kobe bryant is the most overated player in nba history we all know shaq carried kobe to 3rings
@pacfan4life idiot... Kobe had shaq on his team for most of his prime... shaq wass a 24ppg-27ppg player at the time kobe couldnt get to 30ppg because he was sharing stardom with shaq...out kobe on mj's team with a pippen that average 17-20ppg... kobe would damn sure avg 30ppg plus...you see what he did when shaq left...31ppg and 35ppg seasons...face it Jordan on the Lakers with shaq would not have even averaged over 28.9ppg ..Kobe on the MJ bulls 30ppg+ seasons
@pacfan4life kobe didnt play much in his first few years. rookie year his avg 7ppg sophomore 15ppg also he was placed with shaq who was a perrenial allstar. MJ got his own team where he was the only real superstar. pippen was good but was not great.
@littleprincess217 so?Jordan averaged 37ppg as a rookie. Guards dominate the ball more than centers so kobe could have averaged more points. He didn't face any double teams like mj did cause of shaqs dominance. MJ did have his own team but kobe had free rein to do whatever he wanted offensively because he touched the ball ways more than shaq. I ain't hating on kobe though cuz I believe after he retires he will definately be talked about as one of the greatest players ever.
@pacfan4life alrite bro first of all MJ didnt avg 37 as a rookie. his avg was 28. kobe did not have no dree reign to do whatever he wanted his first couple seasons. when there is a superstar on the team center, guard forward it doesnt matter. the goal is to feed that superstar. kobe couldnt reach his potential with shaq on the team. so he pretty much kicked him off when shaq got drunk happy from the threepeat.
@pacfan4life but you gotta admit kobe fulfilled his potential when shaq left and is very identical to MJ give or take a couple things. they are the same to me and Mr. phil jackson
@MrStinky24 Last time I checked Jeff Van Gundy never won a ring largely because of a guy named MJ. So yes JVG did watch MJ torch his Knicks year after year.
You want to know something else kobe career avg 45% and mj 49% but thing is kobe has shot 859 more three pointers than mj in the same amount of game. Even though mj went to the rim way more than kobe bryant. So plz someone say how shooting 859 more three pointers wont fuck up your percentage.
Bitch please has jordan ever had a index finger that forced him to change his shot? or kind of injuries kobe has had? Watch jordan and kobe highlights and you will see that jordan dunked way more than he shot!! he was known for dunking because his shot was crap until later in his career and thats just from mid ranged he has always sucked at three pointer only reason he got 37% is because they moves the three point line 1 foot closer then when they changed it back he shot shit like always.
That description is the lamest point ever made. What is there to think about?? I guess in those two championships, Kobe did it all by himself... You can try to discredit MJ all you want, but you can't do it like that.
Just take a look at what kobe is doing now in his 16th season..leading the league in scoring. Not saying he is better but for some to just diss miss him as maybe the best. Get over it. He just might be.
@MrStinky24 He's leading the league in scoring because he's shot jacking. He's only shooting 45.4% from the field and 26.8% from three this year. In comparison Jordan at age 33, won a scoring title shooting 48.6% from the field and 37.4% from three, he also won a championship and a Finals MVP. Kobe has led the league in field goal attempts four times and only has two scoring titles, Jordan led the league in field goal attempts 9 times and has 10 scoring titles. IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE!
Like i said get over it. Not saying he is but he may very well be. It's called an opinion. And stop with the FG %. Different era, different D, Different teams.
@MrStinky24 What if I were to tell you that, in my opinion Brian Scalabrine may be better than Kobe? Wouldn't you say that I don't know anything about basketball? Seriously, do you realize how ridiculous it is to say that Kobe may be better than Jordan? "Different era, different D" yes, Jordan played in a better era, with much tougher defense and still put up much better numbers than Kobe.
Well it would be your opinion. Magic and bird played in a better era so... they're better.
I just don't get why some people get so hurt because not everyone thinks Jordan is THE greatest. He may be..but when jordan himself says only kobe can compare to him..hey ..it could be.
@MrStinky24 Kobe is 33-34 years old though, not 40, your making it as thought his played 16 years and is aged 40. his still got a few years left in him
Mark....Mark........Michael treated you and your Knicks like a fly on a mules ass....but besides that...you really should of finished school at St Johns or wherever you went cause you is dumb...dumb...dumb.
What makes me mad about this whole arguement though is ppl saying there not in the same class. Which is bull shit. These players are identical, it's just Jordan is better. In a sense of what MJ has done for the game, yea you can't compare that, but in a sense of on the floor talent....they are in the same class. I just think ppl are so mesmorized by Jordan - the brand that that they don't take time out to pay attention to Jordan- the player. Jordan the player can be compared to any of the greats
Everything that Mark Jackson is talking about is correct..........it's just that MJ is still better. It's not about stats ppl if you watch the two players game, Mark is correct. Kobe is a better shooter, better ball handler, better shot blocker and Kobe's footwork is amazingly better on and off the ball. But MJ is a better defender, better scorer, quicker, stronger and his intangable(the things that don't show up on the stats sheet) are better. And this is coming from a Laker fan. MJ = GOAT
Mark Jackson never liked Michael because Jordan use to make Mark Jackson look bad back in the 90s and would talk trash to Mark Jackson. People forget that al ot of these old guys could not stand Jordan because Jordan would beat them and tell them about it..
@grownman455 Everyone in the 70's-90's used a lot of trash talk, it was just part of the game it was more of a playful thing than a fuck you type thing.
@GuitarMaster6567 I'm gonna hafta disagree with you on the trash talk of old.I think back then players actually didn't like each other and it was more real than today.Bird pointed it out one time,he aid something like,"I don't get all these players hugging each other, when I played we hated each other.I hated the Pistons."It's way more of a business now days and players routinely traded all over.Back then they stayed put more often and had real allegiance to their teams...But I could be wrong??
Mark Jackson is the biggest Kobe Bryant fan ever..........apparently. It's easy to score lots of points when the team your on isn't going anywhere. Jordan's teams were always going somewhere.
kobe is a blueprint of jordan..... jordans highlights look godlike next to kobes and there not even in hd...jordan won more important games, and played the tougher defenses than kobe...
when you think of basketball, anywhere in the world you think jordan... that wont change... even after kobe retires
kobe is great but hell never be the type of icon jordan was
@hostwitmosthoes936 he already is dude ive heard ppl call him the modern day jordan im not saying hes exactly like jordan but hhes the 2nd best player ever adjordan will always have the 1st position no doubt
GET OFF JORDANS DICK AND DEAL WITH REALITY , EVERYTHING HE SAID WAS TRUE , PHIL JACKSON SAID KOBE WAS BETTER AS A PLAYER . KOBE ALREADY MADE MORE GAME WINNERS AND MADE MORE THREES THAN JORDAN EVEN TOOK , HIS SKILL IS HIGHER THAN JORDAN PERIOD , IF YOU DONT AGREE YOU ARE DEALING WITH EMOTION NOT REALITY
and u are just showing the first half. in the second half of this game MJ did guard Kobe and Kobe made one shot from the field and the rest were free throws. Learn to respect a legend, a 40 year old legend at that.
Though I personally think that Kobe is a more skilled basketball player, overall. But overall ability in terms of scoring power and team play goes to Jordan, giving him a nice edge.
@buckethead77 good answer . being biased and just dismissing kobe is stupid cause he clearly has more skill , and to be honest with the game on the line if i HAD to choose im giving it to kobe BASED ON the fact that i know he is gonna make a smarter play
This is why no one respects Mark Jackson as an analyst. He's a fucking idiot. I'll bet you dollars to donuts, golden state finishes with the worst record or second worst record in the league
The thing is right how many times did kobe practice those shots in games missing like hell to eventually get comfortable and then score 81. A lot ot players can score 81, 100 and 62, but there not as greedy, and coaches wont let them. Even if Kobe gets more rings than michael it doesnt mean hes the best. C'mon people mann. Im a retired professional and im just saying from all my experience Kobe is no where near... Theres too much to say, any of you that believe Kobe doesnt know basketball.
@nicenow25 a lot of players could could score 80 but they arent as selfish and like to get their teammates involved. Your right, kobe is no where near MJ just take a look at their stat comparison and you will see.
If you think Kobe scored 81 to be a ball hog, that makes you a fucking idiot. If Kobe score 60 in that game against Toronto the Lakers lose that game. They were down, 18 at one point, when he was getting his team involved. Same with MJ. When MJ had his career high (69), they beat the Cavs by 4. MJ scores his career average in that game which is 30, they get blowed out. Kobe and MJ scored what ever they had to win the game. Which is what Kobe said after that win....
kobe is one of the greats, nobody can deny it. Did he have the same impact on the world regarding basketball like jordan did? no. as far as skill level goes they arent that far apart, but does a kid in africa know kobe?no. does a kid in russia know kobe?no, but they all know mj#23. MJ changed the NBA, hes impact isnt just jumping really high and dunking the ball, his impact was much larger than that. The NBA is becoming as popular as soccer around the world and the man who started that is #23
LISTEN UP GUYS, KOBE BRYANT IS DAMN NEAR MJ HE'S SECOND TO MJ IN MY OPINION VERY CLOSE TO HIM. BUT FOR THE PEOPLE WHO SAY HE IS "NO WHERE NEAR MJ" U OBVIOUSLY DON'T WATCH BASKETBALL AND SAYING MJ PLAYED IN A TOUGHER LEAGUE IS RIDICULOUS NBA IS NBA YOU NEVER PLAYED IN THE NBA HOW WOULD YOU KNOW??
How can he be the greatest? Jordan played 12 years and did 5 times more stuff. Premature? Kobe is going into his 16th year lol..yall stupid bro if Jordan played 16 years or 20 years like kobe plans to Jordan would own every record for life what idiots..This video should be removed from Youtube and Mark Jackson is just mad cause Jordan put his nuts on his head (pause) when he caught that ally hoop on him..still mad that cause of jordan u dont have a ring? huh mark faggot dick riding jackson
This is so retarded and has to be just for hype. Jordan dominates all statistical categories, and had better shot selection, played within the offense efficiently by dribbling less and was a way better defender. oh yea, and I forgot, he was the best interior offensive player ever too. Whoops.
People have short term memory when it comes to sports.Jordan averaged over 30 ppg for his entire career.Kobe only averaged 30 or more points twice in his carrer.MJ,was obviously the better defender & he shot a higher percentage as well.Jordan has 6 rings and he was the best player on his team for all 6.Kobe has 5 but Shaq was the best player on that team for the first 3.Kobe isnt even close to be better than Mj.As a matter of fact he's not even the best Laker of all time
bulllllshiiittttt even when jordan came out of retirement he still kept up with kobe lmao jordans better then kobe in every aspect of the game and scottie should have slapped him for what he said
People, whats more impresive 81pts on the 2006 Raptors in the regular session (Kobe) or 63pts on the 1986 Celtics in the playoffs (Jordan)? It's a no brainer on who the superior player & athlete, it's Michael "Air" Fucking Jordan!!!!!! Kobe never won a ring without a solid big man scorer in the paint. Shaq was dominat but Gasol & Bynum are solid, Jordan never had a solid big man.

@handlprodigy thanks for clearing up the magic thing. but jordan did get to watch bird and magic johnson win for 7 years straight until they became old and became sick. bird was great in 87-88 but in at the beganing of 88 had surgury on his heels. and people always ask what if with jordan think about what if with magic
to all those saying jordan didnt have good teamates are crazy jordan pippen and rodman are the team that everyone wants to have three greats.
and to the people saying jordan had better competition with magic and bird this is true but i dont think magic and bird were competing with jordan as much as they were with each other.
whens the last time you heard someone say the jordan vs bird rivalry or the magic vs jordan rivalry never because its always the magic vs bird rivalry.
@cantbestopped513 when he was referring to the younger Magic, he meant the Orlando Magic. The Bird/Magic rivalry started before MJ got to the league. Magic hadn't found out about the HIV prior to losing to the Bulls in 91. MJ's rivalry did extend to Boston early, but it was primarily the Pistons in the early years. Bird/Magic was just a different rivalry. Both Jordan and Kobe had great teammates, but MJ was always the lead dog. Shaq was driving in LA.
@wedjarl i'm sorry to say but jordan was younger then magic. and magic found out that he had hiv and retired the first time the bulls won a championship before that michaels first 7 years in the leauge magic and bird were the big winners. and just cause kidd is 37 doesnt mean anything. dirk, terry, peja, barea, marion all were a big help to win last year. also the rape comments were unnessasary
michael jordan has said its disrepectful to call him the best player ever when others before him were better
knowbody brings up wilt, magic, oscar, kareem etc
stop shouting jordan is the best ever just because everyone else does
if you look at everybody and what they have acomplished individually and you still feel jordan is the best then I could appreciate that but withot even considering others is truely disrepectful.
i myself think kobe is better than jordan but the best is yet to come.
Kobe could win championships without Shaq because there were other good players in the Lakers and the 2000s was considered a weaker era than the 1990s by many people today. As I said before the time settings are different to make a comparison. In the 90s Shaq was swept by Indiana, Houston, Chicago; Kobe and Shaq were swept by San Antonio, Utah Jazz etc. these results proved they were not that great until the 2000s when many good players from the 90s retired.
@delfra70 Take a walk.. go take a nostalgia trip back to the 90s and stay there.. where Magic, Bird and Thomas were all past their prime and The Bulls won titles against a watered down NBA. Truth hurts.
@espdemon Yeah dog, and you need to get off that dope you smokin. As far as getting past their prime, everybody does, man that's father time, or are you just too young and dumb to realize that. Watered down, compared to what, how the game looks today, WTF you talkin' bout man. I can judge both eras because i was around during the 80's, obviously you were not, so i'll excuse you're ignorance and lack of historiacal knowledge.
@espdemon Magic was 36 when he retired, thanks to his style of play he was basically in his prime. His numbers never dipped. Michael beat him, a watered down NBA? You're kidding right? Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley, Reggie miller, Dikembe Mutumbo, Patrick Ewing, Isaiah Thomas, Bernard King, Alonzo Mourning, Larry Johnson, Clyde Drexler, Penny Hardaway, and Young Shaquille Oneal. You sir need help if you think THAT is a watered down NBA. Especially under the handchecks...Watered down
@goinham25 actually he was 32 when he retired. Might have been turning 33 maybe. is the league was watered down in MJ's day then its flooded and drowned today. I agree with you on the competition. the list even goes on. Thats why today a bum like andrew bynum is 2nd or 3rd best center in the league when he aint even as good as Horace Grant in his prime. da only big man i give props to today is Kevin Love
this description is pretty dumb because Kobe won no championships without pau gasol and the whole laker dynasty team that won that team. It's a goddamn team game, and you're comparing to apples to oranges when you're saying kobe won w/o shaq vs miachel never won w/o pippen, because the lakers were not good at all before pau
This is funny to think kobe is better than MJ. Kobe is a phenominal player but Mj had what you can`t teach, and that is heart and an undying will to win. Remember Kobe gave up on his team when they were up 3 games to 1 against the Suns and they lost. Speaking of losing Kobe has lost in the championship , MJ has never lost an championship apperance.
@Shake26NBake Kobe had better teammates in the 2000s than Jordan in the 1980s and he didn't have enemies like Magic, Bird, and Isiah Thomas etc. If Kobe was younger and played in the 80s, he would not beat those guys either. It's hard to make a comparison because of the different time settings. And many people considered the 2000s as a 'weaker' NBA era.
@Shake26NBake I hope thats not a point your making, and if it is, then Kobe should win 6 as the man not play second fiddle to anyone. So to put this to rest when anyone is being touted as the greatest why are they compared to Jordan and not Kobe.;) ever hear of " the Michael jordan of golf " Or Mj of hockey, Or MJ or Baseball, and so on, and so on, and so on.
lmao kobe is gonna be regarded as one of the best, alongside jordan when hes done so stop with all the hating you fuckin dickriders, probably havent seen a single jordan game and after a few highlights just jumped on his nuts..
Too many people here, espn analysts,& esp bull fans, ride MJ's cock! MJ played against NOBODIEs in the 90's!!! He had no competition! Name me one ELITE player at his position?!!! Name me good defenders that were guarding him!! Starks, gerald wilkins, russell, hornacek?!!! Are u serious? Take a look at who's guarding MJ! Short and un athletic guards! No wonder he can score avg. 30 a game! Jordan is lucky he didnt play kobe in his prime..oh it wouldnt matter anyway, scottie would be guarding him!
@4085oulja LOL! NBA isn't played one on one. Jordan was a constant 2-3 zone victim yet could still break it. Take his classic Starks-Oakley-Ewing shot as an example. If Kobe was playing back then against DetroitBadBoys Rodman, Dumars, Thomas, etc.. he would absolutely cry on the floor. You should realize there were BETTER, PHYSICAL, defensive players back then than the soft defenders Kobe is facing right now. Go and tell Mavericks to stop using Barea to guard Kobe so the lakers wont be swept.LOL
@Shake26NBake A clear evidence of your low comprehension, any answer to the defense issue? No player in the NBA history came back 100% from retirement. Bulls wipe them clean the next season. Jordan was in his 30's against the younger Magic. Ask Kobe to retire. The one that rapist Kobe faced was a bunch of oldies with a 37 year old Kidd and the rest 30 year old "last chance to have a ring" Mavs gangbang who buttraped Kobe and eat his "I can alter history to overcome 3-0" words.
if mj was playing against kobe..mj would be kobe and kobe would be lbj he would have no rings becuz of mj bt always compared to him ..do that make sense???
statisticly Kobe is far behind but he's got rings for a reason and lets not forget he also dropped 62 pts on the mavs in just 3 quarters (mavs ended that year 60 or 67w's) Is Kobe better than Jordan? not sure but I enjoy the debate........ lebron who?
Kobe is getting out of his prime now and just about everyone agrees he's not close to the level of MJ. The conversation now is about who is better, LeBron or Kobe. Kobe has been a great player and one of the best. But, he may not even be in the top 3 when all is said and done.
If Jordan played in todays NBA he wouldn't have needed to put on so much muscle to make him stronger to deal with the physicality of the 80s and 90s NBA, which would've made him faster and in todays game you can't hand check an offensive player to slow them down.
Kobe would not have been able to stop Jordans offense (when he 1st came into the league & in his prime) but I believe Jordan would've kept Kobe to 20 maybe 25pts in a head to head match up.
I'm tired of hearing people use Kobes 81pt game for y they think Kobe is better than MJ, in 2006 the Raptors was # 29 in team defense; anyone who saw that game knows the Raptors didn't play any defense.
Contrary to Marks belief Michael had a great mid range shot and was able to shoot the 3 but passed on it because he shot for percentage. Michael had fancy dribble but rarely used it cause he was able to score by keeping it simple. Jordan was faster & played in a tougher league than Kobe.
@DenRiotNYC ok? Kobe scored 63 in only 3 quarters against a top seed dallas mavs, who were ranked top 10 in defense and had one of the better perimeter defenders guarding kobe with josh howard, as a matter of fact the shots that kobe scored on toronto and dallas were all made with tight defense so i dont care what a team defenses rank is, if he's being played tight and being double teamed most of the game does it matter? shut the fuck up already,i guarantee u couldnt score 81 points on me 1 on 1
@DenRiotNYC The 90's was more of a big man league. In this present generation its more about perimeter players. Statistically Jordan is better but todays game is much different. Players are more athletic and some rules have changed. Also theres more floppers in todays league and there has been a lot of fixed games also.
@DenRiotNYC how did jordan play in a tougher league than kobe? If you watch jordan play, the players were tougher but they were worse defenders by far.. defenders now are way more athletic and developed than the players in jordans era (obviously with the exception of the greats)
@detroitbasketballl The players back then may not have been more athletic in general, but they were actually better defenders. They were also more committed to defense. This isn't even taking into account the rule changes (outlawing the handcheck, etc) that were instituted to make scoring easier for the newer generation. Defensive schemes are more complicated now, but individual on-ball D was better in the past.
@DenRiotNYC ight idc if it was the worst defense in the league scoring 81 points is hard period, some teams dont even score that in a game, jordan is better but give kobe some credit
@adamshakur Kobe is one of the best to play the game in HIS no hand checking no aggression era, but he's not as good or as tough minded and competitive as Mark Jackson and other Kobe fanatics try to make him out to be. If Kobe was this great tough minded leader people try to make him out to be he would've never QUIT on his team by refusing to play in game 7 in the PLAYOFFS against the suns in 2006 Jordan would've NEVER done that.
@DenRiotNYC its no contest. MJ is superior in every, and i mean every way. Just take a look at the stats and accolades and jordan leads kobe in every single category from fg % to steals, rings, etc.
OBVIOUSLY he's missed more, hes been in the league for twice as long as Lebron has. Youd be an idiot to think that Lebron is better based on those stats. Kobe has obviously had more chances to win games and obviously taken more game winners hes almost twice Lebron's age. Don't blindly think OH STATS SAY LEBRON IS BETTER SO THATS MY OPINION. Basketball is about more than stats.
guards him the way they guard Kobe because of his size. Kobe cannot jump as high as Lebron, he can't run as fast, he isn't as big, or as strong, and is double teamed twice as much as Lebron and puts up offensive numbers just as good if not better then Lebrons. Stats don't mean everything you have to take everything into consideration. Including the fact that 70% of Lebrons FG's are from layups/dunks. Kobes is probably less then half of that. Offensively Kobe no question. Overall its Lebron
Anyone who trys saying that Kobe is better then Lebron is crazy. Lebron is a better passer, and rebounder, and is arguably a better one on one defender. But there is absolutley no argument about the better offensive player. Kobe is by far the best in the NBA and maybe the GOAT. You can bring his stats, or FG% into this or whatever, but you will never convince me that anyone takes more complicated shots then Kobe and makes them on a consistent basis. Lebron has a better FG % because nobody..
jordans era had tougher defensive rules and yet he still has a better field goal % than kobe.. kobe never had to play against the bad boy teams of the pistons and knicks.. JORDAN DID.. that says it all.. JORDAN GOAT
@psychomajoreflex Well what I said was I don't think MJ would have done any better in this era. Look at the donkeys MJ mostly played against. We must bear this in mind when we compare the stats. Most of the players in those days had no athletic ability.
Why is Mark Jackson so bitter against Michael Jordan, I may have to do my research and find out.,
KQH8 5 days ago

You want to know something else kobe career avg 45% and mj 49% but thing is kobe has shot 859 more three pointers than mj in the same amount of game. Even though mj went to the rim way more than kobe bryant. So plz someone say how shooting 859 more three pointers wont fuck up your percentage.

18swim 4 weeks ago
Bitch please has jordan ever had a index finger that forced him to change his shot? or kind of injuries kobe has had? Watch jordan and kobe highlights and you will see that jordan dunked way more than he shot!! he was known for dunking because his shot was crap until later in his career and thats just from mid ranged he has always sucked at three pointer only reason he got 37% is because they moves the three point line 1 foot closer then when they changed it back he shot shit like always.
Mannyfrom213 4 weeks ago
@Mannyfrom213 a dunk and a jump shot both count as 2 points.
mattysparks 3 weeks ago
That description is the lamest point ever made. What is there to think about?? I guess in those two championships, Kobe did it all by himself... You can try to discredit MJ all you want, but you can't do it like that.

Just take a look at what kobe is doing now in his 16th season..leading the league in scoring. Not saying he is better but for some to just diss miss him as maybe the best. Get over it. He just might be.
MrStinky24 1 month ago
@MrStinky24 He's leading the league in scoring because he's shot jacking. He's only shooting 45.4% from the field and 26.8% from three this year. In comparison Jordan at age 33, won a scoring title shooting 48.6% from the field and 37.4% from three, he also won a championship and a Finals MVP. Kobe has led the league in field goal attempts four times and only has two scoring titles, Jordan led the league in field goal attempts 9 times and has 10 scoring titles. IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE!

Boff122 3 weeks ago
@Boff122
Well it would be your opinion. Magic and bird played in a better era so... they're better.

T82486 1 month ago
Everything that Mark Jackson is talking about is correct..........it's just that MJ is still better. It's not about stats ppl if you watch the two players game, Mark is correct. Kobe is a better shooter, better ball handler, better shot blocker and Kobe's footwork is amazingly better on and off the ball. But MJ is a better defender, better scorer, quicker, stronger and his intangable(the things that don't show up on the stats sheet) are better. And this is coming from a Laker fan. MJ = GOAT

The thing is right how many times did kobe practice those shots in games missing like hell to eventually get comfortable and then score 81. A lot ot players can score 81, 100 and 62, but there not as greedy, and coaches wont let them. Even if Kobe gets more rings than michael it doesnt mean hes the best. C'mon people mann. Im a retired professional and im just saying from all my experience Kobe is no where near... Theres too much to say, any of you that believe Kobe doesnt know basketball.
nicenow25 1 month ago
@nicenow25 a lot of players could could score 80 but they arent as selfish and like to get their teammates involved. Your right, kobe is no where near MJ just take a look at their stat comparison and you will see.
yogd4life 1 month ago
If you think Kobe scored 81 to be a ball hog, that makes you a fucking idiot. If Kobe score 60 in that game against Toronto the Lakers lose that game. They were down, 18 at one point, when he was getting his team involved. Same with MJ. When MJ had his career high (69), they beat the Cavs by 4. MJ scores his career average in that game which is 30, they get blowed out. Kobe and MJ scored what ever they had to win the game. Which is what Kobe said after that win....

to all those saying jordan didnt have good teamates are crazy jordan pippen and rodman are the team that everyone wants to have three greats.
and to the people saying jordan had better competition with magic and bird this is true but i dont think magic and bird were competing with jordan as much as they were with each other.
whens the last time you heard someone say the jordan vs bird rivalry or the magic vs jordan rivalry never because its always the magic vs bird rivalry.
cantbestopped513 2 months ago
@cantbestopped513 when he was referring to the younger Magic, he meant the Orlando Magic. The Bird/Magic rivalry started before MJ got to the league. Magic hadn't found out about the HIV prior to losing to the Bulls in 91. MJ's rivalry did extend to Boston early, but it was primarily the Pistons in the early years. Bird/Magic was just a different rivalry. Both Jordan and Kobe had great teammates, but MJ was always the lead dog. Shaq was driving in LA.
handlprodigy 2 months ago
@wedjarl i'm sorry to say but jordan was younger then magic. and magic found out that he had hiv and retired the first time the bulls won a championship before that michaels first 7 years in the leauge magic and bird were the big winners. and just cause kidd is 37 doesnt mean anything. dirk, terry, peja, barea, marion all were a big help to win last year. also the rape comments were unnessasary

It's hard to make a comparison because of the different time settings. And many people considered the 2000s as a 'weaker' NBA era.

Jordan would be DESTROYING todays NBA.
DenRiotNYC 2 months ago 2
I'm tired of hearing people use Kobes 81pt game for y they think Kobe is better than MJ, in 2006 the Raptors was # 29 in team defense; anyone who saw that game knows the Raptors didn't play any defense.
Contrary to Marks belief Michael had a great mid range shot and was able to shoot the 3 but passed on it because he shot for percentage. Michael had fancy dribble but rarely used it cause he was able to score by keeping it simple. Jordan was faster & played in a tougher league than Kobe.
DenRiotNYC 2 months ago 25
@DenRiotNYC ok? Kobe scored 63 in only 3 quarters against a top seed dallas mavs, who were ranked top 10 in defense and had one of the better perimeter defenders guarding kobe with josh howard, as a matter of fact the shots that kobe scored on toronto and dallas were all made with tight defense so i dont care what a team defenses rank is, if he's being played tight and being double teamed most of the game does it matter? shut the fuck up already,i guarantee u couldnt score 81 points on me 1 on 1

5swordmaster 2 months ago
@DenRiotNYC The 90's was more of a big man league. In this present generation its more about perimeter players. Statistically Jordan is better but todays game is much different. Players are more athletic and some rules have changed. Also theres more floppers in todays league and there has been a lot of fixed games also.
hamzaahmed16 2 months ago
@DenRiotNYC how did jordan play in a tougher league than kobe? If you watch jordan play, the players were tougher but they were worse defenders by far.. defenders now are way more athletic and developed than the players in jordans era (obviously with the exception of the greats)
detroitbasketballl 2 months ago
@detroitbasketballl The players back then may not have been more athletic in general, but they were actually better defenders. They were also more committed to defense. This isn't even taking into account the rule changes (outlawing the handcheck, etc) that were instituted to make scoring easier for the newer generation. Defensive schemes are more complicated now, but individual on-ball D was better in the past.
handlprodigy 2 months ago
@DenRiotNYC ight idc if it was the worst defense in the league scoring 81 points is hard period, some teams dont even score that in a game, jordan is better but give kobe some credit

@adamshakur Kobe is one of the best to play the game in HIS no hand checking no aggression era, but he's not as good or as tough minded and competitive as Mark Jackson and other Kobe fanatics try to make him out to be. Basketball is about more than stats.

its because mark was in that 81 point game

guards him the way they guard Kobe because of his size.

@xxfootballfan25xx LeBron is a choker...

jordans era had tougher defensive rules and yet he still has a better field goal % than kobe.. kobe never had to play against the bad boy teams of the pistons and knicks.. JORDAN DID.. that says it all.. JORDAN GOAT
flybri74 3 months ago
lol at the description... yeah kobe won without shaq, but kobe didn't win anything till he got other all-stars around him

@Humanrightsforall1 too much speculation. if you are trying to say kobe>MJ it wount work. what makes kobe better than MJ?
psychomajoreflex 3 months ago
@psychomajoreflex Well what I said was I don't think MJ would have done any better in this era. Look at the donkeys MJ mostly played against. We must bear this in mind when we compare the stats. Most of the players in those days had no athletic ability.
