I think the point the nay-sayers are trying to make is that they probably thought that this was a motorbike crash - which is slightly more serious. If you think that somehow a motorcycle outfit and lid prepares you for coming off a bike at 100mph+ then think again. As for the various comments about skull fractures etc, might I suggest some adequate head protection rather than the laughable twat-helmets that most cyclists wear? Something with full face protection for example?
@flashganargerbarben Actually, it is a big deal, kids rarely go over 10 miles per hour whereas these guys are going between 25 - 35 miles per hour spinting to the finish, it's the end of the race, they speed up. If you don't think a sprint finish in a race is fast, search for 'Mark Cavendish' from Australia... that man can move.
@mmcherrygirl jeez its cycling were watching here not football, cyclists are tough bastards. I had 2 road races this week and crashed in both at around 30mph, big deal, I got up, as did most of the other 40 people that went down, and we raced on. Yes this looks bad cause some women are screaming but at the end of the day this is road racing. If your scared of pushing, shoving and crashed then go buy a TT bike. Or if your keen like myself do both.
@flashganargerbarben have you ever hit the ground doing 45mph wearing nothing but spandex? I got crashed out at the PA Robeson race and dislocated my hip. Before you go shooting your mouth off I suggest when you're on the highway, you strip down to your underwear and then jump out the window. see how good you feel.
@flashganargerbarben sure ya did. Somehow I have a hard time believing that. And no road rash isn't the end of the world, so how'd that dislocated hip or shoulder feel?
Okay in all seriousness though, My dad when he was younger hit a dog at 55mph went over the bars and when it was over with. He had some road rash on his but and some holes in his jeans. Crashing a bicycle could never be as bad...
@flashganargerbarben first I want to thank you for the attempted insult earlier You don't need to start calling people names cuz their calling you out, second jeans are tougher than spandex, third, glad to hear he was okay, fourth, road rash compared to the crunching of bones and dislocations of joints is nothing, i spent three months off the bike trying to recover from my crash. Do you ride at all? Do you race or anything? If not you should, it is a lot of fun.
@RoadVandalCycling this dude is obviously one of those douchebags that spouts crap out of his a** but has no videos of his own to expose himself to the rash comments like the ones he leaves.
My Boyfriend was in a crash a few yrs ago (Turkey Hill Country Classic), guy crashed in front of him, he went ove the guy and landed on his crank. The guy was unconcious and bleeding from his face, he ended up with 7 skull fractures, my BF 7 stitches in his thigh, he finished the race (13th).
@mmcherrygirl pretty much. I had somebody brake in front of me when i broke away at the Robeson PA championship race. We were doing like 45 when he hit his brakes and took me out. I dislocated my hip and hit my head. What cat is your bf now?
Crashing hurts, but the race is a fine place to crash. Traffic is nightmarish sometimes.
