WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? ONE thing blu-ray and hd dvd were both 1080p high defnition dvds only that blu-ray won the battle because it had scratch resistant technology, and 5x the capacity of normal discs. An HD camcorder has HD up to 1080p and does not need to be on an hd dvd (they are not even being sold anymore) but can go on blu-ray. BLU-RAY IS THE NAME OF THE DVD BRAND IN 1080P AND HD DVD AS WELL BUT BLU-RAY IS STILL HD NOT A DIFFERENT FORMAT THAN HD.
Okay, thanks... how do you "render" it into 1080p?? I mean if it was recorded in 1080i isn't it kind of permanently interlaced? Are you telling me you can convert it from interlaced into a progressive picture??
ok so this one has 1920x1080 right and I dont think the canon hx-a1 only has the 1080x720 or whatever...does that make a lot of difference? plz explain or what exactly does 1920x1080 mean.
the dimensions of the pixels...it the resolution, the difference is you can have much nicer looking video and it can be displayed on a 1920x1080 plasma or lcd without having to stretch the video and make it look distorted and unpleasing to the eye
Search on the internet. But progressive updates each frame at whole. I'm not too sure but progressive gives much smoother images. It has more frames per second. They use it in fast action like football. :)
I'm really getting annoyed at the way everyone now is doing the old "leave out the i" and tricking people with the 1080 resolution... even the Sony plaques in this video did it - 1080i is half 1080P vertical resolution - it records 540 lines!!, and most of the time this camera records 1440 horizontal pixels too not 1920 pixels.
BUT it is 1080i...kinda hard to explain but you really wont notice the differance...if you want 1080p,well...wait for blueray
i thought you were saying it was a lower res...1080i and 1080p are just differant ways of re-assemeling the data, like geogan said.
1080i SPLITS the data into halfs (odd/even lines)and draws odd first, then even, leaving the potential for lag and jagged edges.1080p draws everything twice, but at the same time, leaving a better image
imagine,if you play video games, that your playing a game at 1920x1080,without anti ailiasing(allows computer to split/blend pixels for a smoother image) without AA is like 1080i,but 1080p is like switching AA on,it tracks fast moving objects better, and gives a better image without those annoying jagged lines. For us though,1080i is fine(considering p takes up insane amounts of storage)and i agree with geo that the should CLEARLY STATE! that its 1080i.but the cam rox anyway.just get it!
I did buy one! Bought the 60Gb model - don't think you would need the 120Gb model - just bring your laptop if you are going away and download to it at end of day. The only thing I don't like about it is the battery life - it starts off at about 103mins but it usually dies before this. Excellent picture quality though as long as there is not too much motion or detail like grass in background which causes MPEG to struggle to record in any sort of detail.
If you hold it still it produces great images - way better than my old Canon XL-1S and actually better than the footage i have seen taken from the Canon XL-H1 with it's fringing lens. I have noticed NO color fringing from this cameras HD footage. Also the digital zoom is perfectly usable too right up to full zoom. Slow motion feature is very nice too, but it appears it doesn't record in full resolution when the slow motion feature is used (looks half resolution to me). Overall very impressed.
Just so you know because I nearly bought one until I researched it fully. These Sony camera's aren't "full high definition". They are only 1080i, 1080p is true high definition. Just so you know.
will windows vista work with this and what editing program do you use for that?

Useless. HD lost the war. Why should I buy HD camcorder when the disks no longer play.
We should be focusing on Blu-Ray I think??????????

Your en eedjot.
HD cameras have nothing to do with HDVD.

blu-ray is a disk that you can put HD video on.

I just got the HDR-SR10...
I'm considering taking it back to get the HDR-SR11...
Would it be worth it???
Also, I wish there was a camcorder that recorded 1080p rather than just 1080i...
Does anybody know of a camera under $2,000 that records at 1080p that is really good??????

take it back anbd buy BLU Ray corder. HD lost the war. don't go back in time.

Blueray is an optical disc format for HD video just like HD-DVD was (before it went away). Both store HD video.
These cameras record HD video, which can be put onto blueray or HD-DVD discs, or whatever else you want to do.
Do you really think Sony of all companies would make anything related to HD-DVD? Not a chance.
So get a clue, or you might have to take back your HDTV and go find a bluerayTV instead. Good luck on that.

You do realize you'll need like a bionic eye to see the difference right...
Just record it in 1080i, then render it into 1080p.

Lol yeah but you won't see a difference.
Render it using movie editing software, like Sony Vegas.
Just import the video and then render it as a 1080p movie file.

the sr11 (and sr12 as far as i know) are true 1080p(1920x1080) not 1080i(1080x720 or somthing.)
amazon states"1920x1080 recording:Record stunning, incredibly detailed video footage in 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution.
Dont believe me? Check it out yourself,or just buy it,its an awsome cam!
