Swap magic ftw. I've opened my ps3 before but only to clean it because it hasn't been dusted in 3 years. I just don't see the point in opening my $500 game system to play older ps2 titles.
I'm not doggin you , but I am sure its easier & not expensive at all to just buy a used PS2 & swap magic, easy, no unscrewing modding etc, just put your S.M in then play your burned PS2 ..& there's no risk of accidentally Fuxxing up your backwards compatible PS3..
@paulspydar still need to do stuff for swap magic. the only reason i did it with my ps3 is because i have experience with dissassembling the system and my ps2 was broken. Currently i have a gaming pc, so i can simply emulate ps2 games.

@trollizer a radeon HD 5670 can emulate at 1920x1080 internal res, 4 GB DDR3 ram is quite enough to keepthings running smoothly, and a phenom II dual core is enough to keep things steady on the cpu end, moreso with overclocking. You can get a Phenom II quad core for not much more money if you feel like it

Ok i've got to ask this question because i didnt see th question on the first page and i dotn feel like searching through the comments...Can this be done with PS2 ISO's, or do you have to have every songle bit of data of the game burned onto the disc? That, and if i do this right, will i still be able to play ps3 games?

mate ignore these bastards, i'm tried this myself, did it like 4-5months ago, opened the drive up and everything, and then i got stuck, like my drive on the ps3 doesn't look like your's, i don't know if i'm supposed to take off another layer on the drive, can is send you a pic of how far i've got on taking it apart cuz i really wanna play kh2fm on my ps3, thanks

So all you have to do is quite easily fuck up your BluRay drive, when for a few bucks you can buy original used PS2 games which wont get you put in jail for copyright theft. Dude why do you have a PS3 with a prehistoric TV? Oh and your folks really need to kick your ass until you clean your room.
