I haven't seen enough of these Rod bugs or whatever they are called, to make an honest statement.

But I can tell for pretty much sure, that it's because they fly faster than 6 miles an hour and thus the amount of milliseconds the shutter allows recording a specific frame.

If something keeps moving, you will see the path it has taken.

But if the trail of the rod itself moves across the frames, then they could really have that shape.

Oh well, I'll believe it when they get one on a 2k fps camera.

Second, If I didn't waste an hour an 20 minutes watching the entire film dedicated to the Rod phenomena (which really wasn't a waste an a boring thursday evening), I would totally agree with you. but if you happen tp catch the other videos on youtube, you'll see bigger versions of those things. One in paticular was caught from a skydiving footage, way above normal bug ground level...

@HeavenlySoul1 Thanks...I've seen plenty of the footage, and none of it has been that impressive IMHO..though I don't recall ever seeing a skydiving example. I do sort of recall one where people are 'base jumping' off of a cliff, or into an extinct volcano hole....something like that....though they aren't exactly doing it out of a plane, but from a high point, to a low point...so that doesn't exclude bugs. If there's an actual skydiving clip, I'd be happy to watch it if U can point me to it.
