@Svenska07 They are both males, so they are usually skinnier than the females. The gold one had a fungal infection and was getting over it at the time. The olive one is perfectly healthy and still is right upto today.
@ManectricPup On the rare occasion that axolotls change into salamanders they have fully developed lungs and live out of the water. As axolotls they have under developed lungs and can survive on land for 15-20 minutes or so. They also swim to the waters surface and take a gulp of air if they have damaged gills or there isn't enough oxygen in the water.
@MegaYeyoX If I told you I also feed them brine shrimp, worms, and dead baby mice would you still think I suck? Oh, and then there's the beef hearts. Poor cows.....
@ryno011 Sorry, I deleted your previous comment by accident! I have a few tips anyway. Make sure that your aquarium is biologically established before putting axies into them. They are sensitive to ammonia which easily kills them. Don't keep fish with them as they like to nibble on their gills. If you live in a hot location it's vital to keep the temperature below 25°C. I use a chiller but you can always use frozen bottles of water and float them in the tank. I hope this is helpful.
@ImaBearXD An axolotl is an amphibian that rarely changes from it's water breathing larvael stage (early stage when they hatch from their eggs) to an air breathing salamander.
my axolotl is gold with pink gills and his have shriveled too and i also have an albino that it happened to also... the albino ones are growing back because i took the fish out of the tank which were picking on them and nibbling them... but is it more likely to b a fungal infection?? i have something to treat them with it but they also have eggs in the tank do u think it would affect the eggs?
@sango10169 I honestly don't know if your fungal treatment would affect the eggs so I can't answer. Getting rid of the fish was definitely a good idea, I don't keep fish in mine for the same reason. (That's why I feed my axolotls feeder fish in small plastic tubs!) If the gills are growing back on the albino and not the gold one then I'd assume that the gold axolotl has a fungal infection. I use something called Myxazin, and I've had success with that. I hope your axolotl makes a recovery.
@Stainbreak The gold one? Yeah he was unwell when I made the video. He had a fungal infection attacking his gills, so that's why they look shrivelled up. He's recovered now, but unfortunately it comes back to haunt him from time to time.
@tedde981016 Yes they can. They have under-developed lungs that enable them to stay out of water for short periods only. They also swim to the surface occasionally to inhale air if their gills are deteriorating or there isn't enough oxygen in the water.
I hate to say but i know i would feed my axies fish but those fish u feed ur axies are beautiful its kinda a waste of a beautiful fish

you can feed it with anything else but live fish . i think it is a barbaric to do that
vornik24 1 month ago
Not for the goldfishea benefit but for the axy, try feeding it more cleaner fishes, like guppies, danios, etc. it's healthier

The second one is metamorphosed?
SouAllStar 2 months ago
@SouAllStar No, they are both in larvael form. The gold coloured one had a gill infection which is why they both look different.

@MrAwsumNinja It's just the skin pattern. It's a fairly common pattern for axolotls that have olive skin colouration.
