  • Andy, great videos!! I saw your architectural sculptures/sceletons, very nice... are those hand built pieces or extracted/carved or....firing on those is veeery nice

are you going t0 have any workshops in Massachusetts/New England?

  • Great video! I wish I had watched this before I made my first 20 cylinders! Oh well, I'll go throw some more cylinders tonight and try the 6 step method and see how they turn out. Thanks for posting.

  • Auu, you've made the process make sense. As a beginner it all seemed so magical. Now I understand what the process really entails. I think this will take a lot of the frustration out of the learning and make it easier to feel more comfortable on the wheel and speed up the learning process. Thanks SO much.

  • Thank you so much! My ceramics teachers doesn't teach this well.

  • The best throwing tutorial on youtube.

  • i've watched the other vids on you tube, this guy is actually showing you how the clay moves.

  • Thank you for presenting your videos in steps. Very thorough and very helpful.

  • thanks Andy! with your six steps, my pottery is no longer at the mercy of "good" or "bad" throwing days =]

  • Fantastic instructions !

Imagine being as skilled as you are !!!

Many thanks for sharing these clips.

Please put more clips on youtube - also show us how you proceed when shaping etc.

You are a great instructor !!!

    Any courses in Sweden ?

  • the way that you collar in step 3 is really interesting. I am anxious to try that out and see what results I get. Great video.

PS- the walls of your piece were amazingly even!!!

  • May I ask how much clay do you think you have there? I swear it grew. It appears to be only 1000 grams or so but then looks as if you have twice that. Very nice in any case.

  • Hi,

I use 2 pounds (less than 1000 grams) of clay for my six steps demo. Thanks for looking!

  • Awesome! You've filled in a lot of holes that have been left by other teachers. I can't wait to get back into class! Thanks.

  • Your wheel is turning really fast, it seems. I've always heard and read that the biggest mistake beginners make is to run the wheel to fast when they are pulling - especially on electric wheels.

    Your thoughts?

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I will give it a try as soon as I can get to my wheel!

  • This is amazing! Thank you for doing this series - and thanks for the detailed explanations of every step with the cutaways. I can't wait to get started following your six steps. I know I'll have a much easier journey to the "coveted number six" now.

  • You are the best teacher. Thanks!!

  • This series is great. Thanks.

  • This pottery newbie thanks you tons for posting these! I wish my teacher taught like this.

  • Thanks for posting these. I've been out of pottery for a while and trying to get back into it without a teacher, but struggling to regain my skills. I think you've helped me pinpoint my problem (moving too fast, what else?). Really helpful and well explained.

  • these are the most helpful videos in my learning process so far with throwing. thanks!

  • this is awsome... what kind of clay are u using??

  • I'm using a clay called sculpture raku clay made by clayplanet in santa clara.

Sorry for the sound, and thanks for checking it out!
