Popping rocks!! Greater than jigging. Let's put it to test. One side of a boat a Poppers and the other side a Jiggers. Who catch the first GT(Giant Trevally) considered a winner......Yeaaahhhh
@displorer Thanks for the comment! When GT popping, we use the PR, FG and Mid knots for joining the leader to the mainline. Bimini to twisted leader connections are also very good.
How long is the rod? How many Lb.? How many Lb. line are you all using? Braid or monofilament? Do you use a leader for the lure? If you do, how many Lb. is the leader?
The rods are Illex Ashura Waiefu 240H, which are supplied by our guide. Reels are Daiwa Dogfight and Z6000GT, spooled with 100lb TUFF Line XP braid and 300lb Shogun leader.
This model of Illex rods are 7'6" long, and are rated extra heavy. Generally for this kind of popping, a rod from 7'3" - 7'6" is best. While an 8' rod will give you more distance, they can be harder to fight fish with.
The rods we used were Illex Ashura Waiefu's, mainly the 240 H model for the heavier stuff. These rods are supplied by the guide and are pretty much unbreakable! We were running 100 lb TUF Line XP on Saltiga Dogfight and Saltiga Z-6000GT reels. When GTs of this size are sitting in only 5 feet of water, you need gear this heavy to stop them from burying you!
joli coup les copains c yanik avec la illex 270 et le stella 8000 faudrai quand attaque ensemble ok ben très belle video et franky attrape pas tou laisse la paire ...................... Joli coup les amis
How good are big GT's in shallow water! That's awesome footage of big surface strikes and locked up drags! :) Looks like a great area you guys fish. I think I've just found my next trip... :)
