  • does it work on mac g4 tower

  • @1:36 the hemisphere and the combo drive look like a mouth

  • can snow leopard work on a g4 laptop

  • pretty cool pally.

  • Why is the computer no longer used, if not ill take it off your hands if you really dont want it. Its a cool mod and brings the awesome style iMac g4, (i really want one) and gives it the intel chipset allowing u to run the Snow leopard and Lion OS. The g4 is great!

  • One of the nicest computers ever designed, shame it's such a pain to upgrade the board. I'd just hollow it out and run the monitor/DVD drive cables to a tower under the desk or something, but that's a brilliant mod you've done!

  • I very much enjoyed this..great job man..I have this G4 running leopard..it's a bit faster than tiger..but all I really use it for is web browsing, safari is fast and does what it's supposed to..then again I did uninstall a lot of the stuff that came with it

  • Now all I need to do is getting help by putting a Mac Pro logic board and it's guts inside a G4 PowerMac AGP case!

  • damn nice job! holy shit sounds like lots of work

  • How do you fit the MB into the iMac G4 case?

  • @honam1021

well it wasn't easy.... but that was the whole point. ;-)

i have another video showing the assembly. take a look at it.

  • This is badass, to bad you couldn't get a disk drive in there. I would have put a mac mini in there! I have one of those, I'm using it now, on tiger. It has 1ghz g4 and 512 ram. Needs more ram. But it's functional. i wish apple would continue this design.

  • 6:30 Did you notice the screen is running Ubuntu?

  • @tweetyaja that was the first monitor test with the extension cable i made. i just used a spare laptop running ubuntu.

  • nice mod, keep up the good work

  • I am impressed by your mod. My entry level point is an i5 CPU because I work with video files. Any chance of fitting an i5 capable motherboard in there, I'm not sure of the dimensions? At the moment I want to mod my old Mac Minis but there is nothing small enough with better than Atom/AMD. The nano-ITX format never quite took off like I thought it would. Anyway, I would welcome your thoughts. You did a stellar job, there. Not enough people tackle Mac mod projects.

  • @OnceAPunAThyme

    thanks for your comments.

hi i think you could get an i5-mini itx in there. however you would need to pay attention to power usage.

its been a year since i did this mod. unfortunately the computer is no longer used. i would do an i5 mod myself if i had use for one, but i don't.

  • this is amazing, you have done a very good job on refurnishing it :)

  • is that a custom boot screen?

  • @delliswierd

yes i changed the image of the boot screen to an image of the iMac. I also changed the model number of the imac so that network macs discovered it with the correct image.

  • @pgee70utube oh, cool! I wish I knew about macs like you, I have an iBook G3 with OSX 10.4.11, an iMac G3, and a PowerMac G4. How would I burn a .dmg "legal" OSX 10.3 to a CD so I can install 10.3 on my PowerMac G4?

  • @delliswierd

hey. your question is off topic.

google "disk utility .dmg" for your answer.

  • @pgee70utube ok any other info?

  • wow how you do that can i do this with a powerbook g4 mod it

  • @Sha12333

i have'nt seen its internals, but i would imagine not. i also can't see the point - the new macbooks look much better to me than the g4. the imac g4 however is unique. i think only apple would have the passion to make something that looks so nice.

  • @pgee70utube is there any way to use lcd of the imac?

  • @Sha12333 There is a way but it is EXTREMELY difficult

  • @familyguy9877

    @familyguy9877

    look at this thread:

(google pgee70 macrumors g4 imac screen page 9)

my experience is that it is easier to splice the g4 screen cable into dvi and make a PWM circuit than re wiring the lcd that i did for this mod. way easier... (read days quicker) you just have to know how to hook it up. see my pinouts.pdf

  • I want to do the same, thinking of using Intel Sandy Bridge...

  • ugliest Apple ever.

  • how help me do that

  • @kc88kc i am unclear on what you want help with.

many skills are required -- its not easy. so PM me with a specific question.

  • @kc88kc never mind

  • But does it still chime when it boots?

  • I like how you modded the hardware and can also hack the software.. very nice.

  • your hackintosh videos give me fresh hope n inspiration to create great works of art like your modified iMac G4..

    more power to you..

  • Cool project but its not a mac, its a pc. It is like watching an hd movie on an old analog television, it would be cheaper but its not possible.

  • Oh my jaw has just dropped. We have a dead imac g4 here, but DH thinks its the power source!! Where did you get your parts from, because I think he would be able to do this to mine too. He´s just got my old iBook going which had been dead for a month!! Why did you have to change the monitor, won´t the original one work with the new specs??Sorry I´m not the techie in this house!!

  • Nice That most of been hard

  • amazing..

  • That's GREAT!!!

  • What other macs do you have.... if you have any more

    Great video

    :) 

  • well done dude well done

  • just get an external cd/dvd Drive from WAL-MART that connects to usb that way you can have a drive to load things into it

  • thanks for the advice. but think about this. given i completely reengineered a graphics cable and monitor, managed to fit non-standard hardware into a 8year old computer, got an atom processor to work with snow leopard on non-mac hardware and infact i did not use a dvd rom drive to install the operating system at all - at any time - i could probably work something like that our for myself. but the real problem with your advice is that there are no walmarts in this part of the world!

  • @NeolovesTrinity

at the time i did that mod, i didn't know how to use the internal monitor. now i do, you can use the internal DVI monitor that ships with the G4. know that back then would have made things half as hard!

  • yes the g4 is a beutyfull machine and ppl say its outdated but its nice to see someone bringing the beuty of the g4 back to life i love the g4.

  • Hi

thanks for the Vid and showing your skills ;-).

I am right in the middle as i type of a MDD got most parts out @self 'now how do i fit this thing lol'

anyhoo, have you considered touchscreen? i think that would be the elegant 'touch' it needed, if any lol

    peace in Jesus

    Dava

  • This. Is. Amazing. Whoa. How on earth did you manage to route the cabling through the teeny tiny hole in the arm?

Major kudos to you, sir :)

  • thanks for that!

i made the cable from an old parallel printer cable, which was twisted pair - then i used lithium grease to lubricate.

it sure is a snug fit! there was no room left to route the wifi cable so i couldn't put that back in. but i did get the microphone and led cable thru.

i also had to strip the shielding. i did cover the wires with heat shrink though to prevent wear.

the mod is now working perfectly. did you see my other vid with a view of the internals ?
