I've always wondered why they used both real and fake spiders. The fake ones seem so ridiculous that it becomes funny, but adding real spiders next to them was 400% idiot.

The spider scene fits in perfectly with the tone and spirit of the film. The sounds of the spiders is not intended to be realistic and I don't think it is justified to criticise it on that basis. "The Beyond" is best understood as a series of impressionistic and visceral vignettes. This is one of my favourite scenes in the film: there is something almost sensual about the way the spiders caress his face, eyes and tongue.
