  • What a can of worms I opened!

    A thousand pardons.

    Both guitarists were/are brilliant.

  • Just to clear all this up, that is Phil Baugh picking on this song, NOT JERRY. I'm Phil's daughter. My uncle Vern Stovall played with my dad 20+ years and can also recognize his pickin' anywhere and my mother also said it was my dad (she was married to him when this was recorded). I've also found credits online showing my dad was in fact the guitar player on this song.

@musiccalgary, Never EVER question a family member if they verify who's pickin'. It's in my blood. I feel it, I know it!!!

  • @musiccalgary What is your source that it was Jerry and not Phil?

  • Ted Nugent's Amboy Dukes have another great version 1975 recording, check it out. No fantastic duo singing, but there's some killer bass/drum work. psychobilly.

  • Oh my god Jerry was off the hook. What a guitar player!!!!!

  • I've looked for this on here for a while!! That's my dad pickin' the guitar on this song. I didn't even know about this record until my uncle told me about it.

  • yeehaa

  • Boy I'd love to nail this down as far as who the incredibly hot guitar player is on this--- it was my understanding that the late great Phil Baugh was the session picker on this. How can we find out for sure?

  • @doctorfingersii Yes, Phil Baugh was the picker on this song. I can recognize my dad's pickin' anywhere. Plus, my uncle Vern Stovall confirmed it.

  • @doctorfingersii Nope, it was Jerry not Phil.

  • I think the guitar player is Jerry Reid.

    Not the late Jerry Reed.

I think he was/is Mel Tillis's lead player in the Statesiders.

    Great playing!

  • @brookdalebill Phil Baugh was pickin' on this song. He played on a lot of Paycheck and Jones' albums.

  • @tiffanydione Nope, it was Jerry not Phil.

  • damn that song is done now!!! nobody needs to record it ever again!!!

  • Who is the guitar player on this sumbich?

  • @musiccalgary

    Jerry Reid, I think.

  • @brookdalebill Dearest lordy lord, that is as good as it gets.

  • @brookdalebill It was Phil Baugh. He also played on the "He Stopped Loving Her Today Album" He was a Nashville Superpicker too!

  • @musiccalgary Phil Baugh

  • Wonderful, authentic early rock outtake from honky-tonk pioneer and a guy who idolized him. Berry was proud, I'm sure.

  • Uhhh, i dont think these ever had an "after party"...the party never stopped....hehehe

  • Unusual song choice by two of the best. That's some kinda crazy guitar pickin too. I bet that was a fun recording session. And the after party... forget about it!
