Bands change and evolve over the years, I've been a Shikari fan since 08 and I've heard every single song they've recorded, including their unreleased old stuff. Their new stuff is just as good as the old
This version is so much better than the newer one. The new ones good but this is fucking amazing. plus Rou oddly barks in the re recorded version :S lol
EXACTLY...i loved this band because of the catchy synths and trance...plus Rou's piercing screams were much much better back in the day..theyre political dubstep/rap influence is NOT what Enter Shikari was..and i KNOW bands change i just feel they turned their back on what worked
umm...sorry youre not a winner..arguably their most popular song on their first album...is about arcade games...hence the chorus insert your coin, please try again..or return to energizer another popular song on their first album was based on laser tag..or nodding acquaintance, a song on one of their earlier eps about a relationship....anything can happen in the next half hour..another popular song was about two people on ecstasy in a club or disco..sooo no they recently got political
@keller43561 yes i'm sure "sorry you're not a winner" is strictly based on playing at the arcade, have you never heard of a metaphor? also, i never said that every single one of their songs has a political meaning so you listing songs that perhaps don't have such, proves nothing.. there's always exceptions, i realize that. i'm just saying, in even some of their earliest songs, there's slight political undertones. so me saying that they've always had political influence is perfectly justified.
@joshwakeman obviously this one is enter shikari too but this version which is reffered to as the "demo" version was recorded in 2005 and they didnt do anything with it as in they did not put this version on any cds or records then in 2008 they remade it with a few different lyrics and abit of cahnge in the music then released that one as a single
you guys should check out the new ES there brand new and if everyone get to know them they will be famous and get better than ES check em out. they are called nuclear invasion they just relesed there first EP so abit bait but there getting a new one soon called acid and it much heavyer :):) check em out - NUCLEAR INVASION
Since I started to hear this band, I loved all their songs from the old albums to the new "common dreads" album. The only reason why they are doing political lyrics is because they grew up!
That's bullshit. If a great and creative band is reduced to mere pop band with "political lyrics" (like they all do today), there is absolutely nothing forbidding me to express my anger towards this. Not mentally equipped to love music = Having a brain and understanding that all changes are not for the best, even if it's your favorite band we're talking about.
@CountAbel meh, what if they just wanted to grow up? They started the band in their teens, and they've been playing the same stuff for years. surely, if they're trying to progress as a musician, they'd try to broad their horizon of musicality.
i actually thought common dreads was good. sure, they've changed, but it's not like they totally changed their style, you know?
I agree. However, becoming more mainstream isn't the same as growing up. They had a challenging and unique sound, and they changed it for a more basic one. The original Enter Shikari was a band you would recognize without a doubt, today I could get it mixed up with any other similar band.
They haven't broaded their horizon of musicality. They've reduced themselves into a very basic political pop/rock band. Not only has their sound changed for the worse, but lyrics as well.
@CountAbel if anything, they've vastly improved in common dreads. Sure, you don't get to hear screaming and edgy stuff, but to claim that Enter Shikari is a generic band where you can get it mixed up with any other band is harsh, tbh. I can't tell any band who is similar to Enter Shikari common dreads era, except Mike Skinner, I suppose, and it's at a push.
Their lyrics are worse? I beg to differ. Sure, their lyrics are no longer vague, but they could still write some awesome stuff.
@CountAbel They've always had political lyrics, they've just made the themes more prominent in their latest album, and they've changed their style because they're constantly developing their sound.
Wow, why is evryone arguing? if you dont like their new stuff, then your not a fan of theirs anymore, so there is no point in commenting, i thought that was the normal thing to do =S but maybe im just being fussy
True ES fans will listen to anything they make and enjoy it, I've been a fan of them since I heard them on Rock World TV and although I admit that their newer stuff isn't as good (still amazing) I'll listen to them every day.
You can criticise their political movements but you must admit they make sense... Truth be told they are very talented and anyone against this is not a true fan.
aaaah k everybody stop posting about how the new ES style is crap its like a broken record player on this page if you got nothing good to say then dont say it at all ok :P ;)
I do. Common Dreads was awful, and I thought the band could never do worse. Now I've heard the stuff from their upcoming album, and it turns out I was wrong. It's terrible. :E
Check AmbushReality's channel, it's the official one for Enter Shikari. There should be even a music video for the new album. I believe it was called Thumper or something.
OK so what you actually mean is Nodding Acquaintance and This Frozen Landscape, which there is about 100 copies of on CD. Hardly the good old days, they were wank. Don't talk shit.
i actually don't like this version, the 2008 version is more mature, has more of a message. i love everything thats come out of enter shikari but compared to the 08 version this one isn't good
the verse in this one doesn't go "imagine magma encrusted in rock, and on the surface of this world, all eyes are on the clock, all our empires, our philosiphies (our practiced faiths, OUR REVOLUTIONS) our prowd sceinces are but a flicker in one day of the lives of the stars". this ones like "here we are again, counting rays with you..." its a lot different
my opinion is that the new version is better but the end is in here is soooo fucking epic because it´s lonnger and the screaming works better... don´t know why it´s so short in the new version... but at least they played it fucking long when i saw them live :)
No, you're not. However I don't agree with you. I find this style being the one and only that fits Enter Shikari. The new album is bullshit, that has lost the hardcore aspect completely and now focuses solely to political criticism. But Take To The Skies, oh man... now that was THE album!
Everytime I say "I Don't Like Common Dreads" everyones like "OMFG Thier voices are so much better so much better songs"
ROUS VOICE NOW SUCKS, Common dreads has ruined them, when I go to see a band i want to see them play their music, if i wanted to hear a political debate on what we should do with our lives I'd watch the house of fucking commons (lol the house of common dreads)
@1tew3four jeesus, that album is amazing, i can listen to both their albums in sequence, both are fantastic, the new one is just more mature. i equally cant stand it when people have a go at common dreads whan it was plainly the best album of 2009.
I agree with you. People just want Take to the Skies again, i like that they keep improving on what they have. Looking forward to see what they do next.
I'm the same as you, i play both albums after each other.
Improving? The hell is that supposed to mean? That they should sing more about saving the world and overall reduce themselves to a very basic pop/rock band? It seems we're viewing the word "improve" a bit differently.
Improving Enter Shikari would mean evolving as musicians, experimenting with synths and coming up with something we haven't heard before. Becoming a watered-down version of what you previously were is not evolving.
I Wish douchbags would stop hating on the new material , tbh the old shikari absaloutly kicked arse and was better than the more recent stuff , but the band have different visions and directions for thier music and as true fans we must follow that vision
common dreads is an awesome album dont get me wrong, but there old stuff is so epic, and completely different to other bands out there. In my opinion their new album seems to be a watered down version of the old one, so less screamo etc
hey i fort this version was better but after listenin 2 the newer version i like that too but both versions are absolute kickass n way better than ther new stuff (i like the new stuff btw poeple so dnt h8 please :):);)
theres something about the old enter shikari, maybe it's the soft singing instead of the shouted lyrics or something but whatever it is, it reminds me of why i first started liking them in the first place
a duno its much more raw. the singing is smooth, the screaming is hard. i member getting into ES ...late 05 it musta been and being obsessed for years. i feel bad but i hate all these new comer fans who havnt seen the older side of them
Aye Up To That; The Older Songs Were Better; Right Balance Of Screamo And Techno; Got Into Hybryd-Shikaris Orignal Band- Cor Like Years Back And Like Noones Heard Of Them Sucha Shame Tbh :(
I agree some of their old stuff is epic and outclasses their new stuff, i love most of the tracks on Common Dreads though, and i was a newcomer to ES, the first song i heard by them was the lastest version of WCBIS, and since then i've not stopped listening to them
i like both versions. i like the vocal rhythm in the new one, but in this one, i love the part where Rou sings "Here we are again..." near the beginning. I think its pretty sweet. :]
i like this version more. this song got me into es. i reckon if they remastered this/redone this, it'd be way more epic than the newer version. just my 2c
This version was never released, just a demo.. they didnt like this version really. The reason I find this version better in SOME ways is because he screams more, but the new version is better on a whole. The outro is awesome on this one however..
yeah all theyre old eps and demos have loads of songs like nodding and score 22 that were never released, so when they finally recorded an album they had loads of stuff to choose from to simply rerecord and remaster
I love the breakdown at the end of this version.

This is the original version. The version you have is most likely the remake that came out in 2008.

i like both versions. i like the vocal rhythm in the new one, but in this one, i love the part where Rou sings "Here we are again..." near the beginning. I think its pretty sweet. :]

is this like more 'rough' version? from promo 2008?
catatonia66 2 years ago
I think this version was recorded in 2006 or something. They just re-recorded it for fun in 2008.

catatonia66 2 years ago
Yeahh theres the new one and the old one but the oldd ones wellll better (:
andypanda1234 2 years ago
The ending and the breakdown at around 1:50 was better I'll admit.
Though if the new version overtook everything else I'd love it even more.

i like this version more. this song got me into es. i reckon if they remastered this/redone this, it'd be way more epic than the newer version. just my 2c

This version was never released, just a demo.. they didnt like this version really. The reason I find this version better in SOME ways is because he screams more, but the new version is better on a whole. The outro is awesome on this one however..

cuz some songs are off of eps and singles..all the new ones were put onto there 1st album..take to the skies...and some are zane lowes...
Dj37s 3 years ago
yeah all theyre old eps and demos have loads of songs like nodding and score 22 that were never released, so when they finally recorded an album they had loads of stuff to choose from to simply rerecord and remaster
