Indeed, one wonders whether Jerome Moross, composer of the music for "The Big Country," who died in 1983, ever spoke to Robert Farnon (who died in 2005). Both were tremendous composers, but this music manifestly did not suit this series, much less its main & end credits. The music by Australian Ron Grainer is "perfect" and truly iconic.
This version works quite well with the closing credits... but after rating the Grainer version as one of the best TV themes ever unfortunately it stands little chance..a bit like putting the Coronation street theme on the beginning of an episode of star trek....
I Like it. It's good music...but not for The Prisoner.

This theme didn't "go" with The Prisoner, but would've made an excellent theme for either a western or detective show.
