hi to all herman dunham was my father and he passed on feb 1,2010 he has left a legacy of his music 4 us 2 listen 2 so keep postin and enjoyin what he left. daddy u r and 4 ever will be shorely missed R.I.P my preciouse daddy
Herman always has been one of my favorite lead singers. It will deeply upset me for the rest of my life that I didn't have an opportunity to meet him , or see him sing in person. I missed the Black Swan concert (his first performance with The Solitaires in many years) because I thought it was a week later than it was :(
@devnay123 ......We thank your dad for his great music....I'm 65 yrs old, grew up in the south bronx and we danced and partied to doo wop music and that of dad's....it was a time !
Actually, Sam Cooke joined The Soul Stirrers in 1950 and I believe The Solitaires got their start around '53. This song is much later -1959 if I'm not mistaken
No doubt this tune borrows heavily from Jerry Butler & The Impressions 1958 recording of "For Your Precious Love". But after the eerily similar begining, it seems to take off in its own direction. Really dynamite ballad from 1959 on the Paradise label (#113)
Thank you.. This was released by Old Town so it's possible that they pressed this on 78... This was released in early '59. I've confirmed a flexi-disc Old Town 78 released later than this
Sort of.. Except Herman Dunham was originally one of the leads of The Solitaires. The Vocaleers lead is usually Joe Duncan who was singing background for this one
Really nice tune. I recommend reading Marv Goldberg's entry on the Vocaleers. Some fascinating stuff. And Hah13, he mentions this song being done a la Jerry Butler, which I could also hear.
AWESOME,OH MAN --AWESOME

Fantastic, as always Herman Duncan, a real class act. This song parallels a slower melody, "For your precious love".

I agree with that. Just about anything Herman Dunham sings lead on does it for me

I hear a bit of Sam Cooke in his voice.
I know the Solitaires predated Cook's secular work but this has a definite gospel influence.

He IS the man... Years ahead of his time vocally. He could have sang right next to Otis Redding or Wilson Pickett and held his own. This is soul
