  • What the hell are you talking about? His voice is perfectly in sequence to his mouth, "Wally's" voice is also sort of tinny in the same way his voice is, and at no time does any part of it either appear or sound like it was dubbed in.

  • it's Him

  • Wrong. It is Mr Beaumont. The treble on the EQ at 1000hz was 6 db too high, that's all.

  • I've watched this show for years and this is the only scene in the entire series where I've always thought that Ward's voice sounded funny.

If the trouble was shooting outdoors, then why didn't Wally's voice sound funny too? If it was an overdub done by Beaumont, why wouldn't his voice sound exactly right?

It may be Beaumont's voice but it's certainly not obviously him.

  • No way in HELL is that Hugh Beaumont talking- it sounds more like Richard Deacon imitating Beaumont. Another mystery to tackle: in the Christmas episode of Green Acres, why was ALL of Eddie Albert's dialogue dubbed in later? It looks like he's in a Godzilla movie!

  • Sounds like it was redubbed in the studio. They probably had sound problems with taping outside. Dubbing, or redoing the dialogue, is much more common than people think. Some TV shows redubb 90% of the dialogue.

  • DUH,,,, THATS HIS VOICE.

  • I think it was him too. But, my most favorite Hugh moment was before Beaver when he was an ex-con on the Adv of Superman 1953 ....Supey had to save him after he accidentally locked himself inthe fur vault.

  • its his voice. no doubt. And no reason to dub anothers voice there

  • I agree it was a looping process change to a different actor but think it was for the very last portion only. I think it is all Hugh until "hang around a little if that's ok coach". If you notice the first word in that portion overlaps slightly with the previous "just ahh".

  • I heard Hugh was packing. And I don't mean a gun.

  • That is NOT Beaumont's voice. Jerry Mathers, who played Beaver, said in an interview for Shokus Stu Internet Radio Show that occasionally, they would substitute the original actors' voices with voices from other actors, when the original actors were no longer available after the producers discovered they needed to record more lines of dialogue. Their job was to sound exactly like those they were imitating. It happened at the end of the season, when Beaumont was back home selling Christmas trees.

  • The quality is poor because TV Land speeds up these old programs to make room for more commercials, making everyone sound a bit like chipmunks. Plus the poster of this video transferred it with a webcam aimed at a TV set rather than a proper converter.

  • It's Hugh Beaumont and Tony Dow...just studio dubbed ...no doubts

  • OH COME ON!!! That is unmistakeably Mr. Beaumont's voice, it just sounds "canned," that's all. Dave Lounder (Lifetime LITB fan)

  • It's NOT Hugh. Exteriors are most often a sound nightmare, especially back in the "ancient" days of the '50s. Obviously they were under tight deadline that week and within that narrow window of time only Tony could run into the studio and overdub his lines before the film (not video) was sent out. Someone else just imitated Hugh - and did a decent job, really.

  • Get a clue......it is Hugh.

  • It might not be Hugh. That was an exterior shoot. Sometimes audio on location would be unusable due to wind or other background interference and the actors would be called back to "loop" or re-record the audio portion and sync it up to the picture. If Hugh was unavailable ,especially for a short loop like this a substitute would have been used.

  • Sounds like Ward to me. "Gee, Wally.....why did they say strange things about dad's voice? Do you think Eddie had something to do with that?"

  • Sounds like Richard "Fred Rutherford" Deacon's voice-over for Ward's lines :)

  • I think it's just overdubbed, cuz of inferior outdoor miking problems-

  • Eerie!

  • I have noticed that for a long time! I wonder why a different voice was in there? I wish there was a way to contact someone from the show who REALLY knows what happened!! Anyone know how we can get the answer? I'm very curious.

  • only the "Hi Wally" sounds like him.

    Thanks for posting!

  • first words sound like him...after that it's definitely NOT him

  • Sounds exactly like him to me.

  • I don't think it's Hugh. The mysteries of over-dubbing are beyond our grasps.

  • Tony dow was so hot as a young guy...warm personality as well.

  • It's Hugh's voice. His voice sounds odd because recording an audio track outdoors presents many problems with background noise and wind, so outdoor scenes are usually overdubbed and lip synced with that audio track being recorded inside a controlled recording studio. I know this because I'm an sound engineer and I work in film and music.

  • thats him

  • this is funniest thing i've ever seen

  • @liambf - then you must be about 3 minutes old.

  • I just bought the DVD set and watched this episode. It's definitely NOT Hugh Beaumont's voice in that scene.

  • I think they covered up hugh's sudden death!! Yes they must have covered up his death and surgically altered someone to look like him. Exactly the way the Beatles pulled it off with Paul McCartney's car wreck death in the 70's!! OMG!. Hey I'll make a video about Hugh Beaumont's death cover-up, and become famous on youtube!

  • @StrawberryAlarmCloc1 Heh that's funny it's obviously him.

  • It sounded like his voice to me!

  • That is NOT someone else's voice, It's absolutely Hugh Beaumont's.

  • I believe that's him...just because he's there and feels uncomfortable about telling Wally a lie, he talked different. " I just happened to be going by..." It's him.

  • It sure sounds like Hugh Beaumont's voice to me.

  • Clearly this outdoor scene needed a "loop" and Hugh Beaumont wasn't available so they grabbed a key grip or somebody and tried to pull a fast one

  • sounds the same to me

  • Why don't you call up Hawaii 5-0 and borrow their voice analyzer?

  • It sounds the same as his voice always does. Much ado about nothing...

  • I think it's a conspiracy. I watched that show faithfully week after week and really believed that life was like that when I grew up. Well, when I got "here" things were NOT the way they were like on the show. I am devastated. Sincerely,d JAMES.

  • To folks who wonder i remember this show m to all you tubers that is Hugh Beaumont voice u here somehow been up=pitch fast....But that is his voice cause i knew the person of hugh beaumont n that is him....okay case closed

  • I tend to think it's not Beaumont - they obviously had to overdub this exterior scene after it was shot, and he must not have been available. Nice catch!

  • that was the cops voice that pulled over beaver and larry driving his go cart in the street..

yes i have no life :)

  • Yeah, Hugh just likes to move his lips for the

    heck of it.

  • I know thats not Hugh Beaumonts voice. It was dubbed. I am a diehard Leave it to Beaver fan.

  • Why was that done? Did he have a cold or something that day?

  • This is not Hugh Beaumont's voice. In fact, it's nowhere even close. Anyone who thinks this is him needs to clear the wax out of their ears.

  • It's him. The recording quality is poor because technology wasn't as good for exterior scenes then. But as one who was around for the series when it WASN'T on TVLand, I can tell you it was Hugh.

  • Agreed. That's definitely Hugh Beaumont and I've been watching the show ages way before it was on TVLand. The sound quality was just a bit off. Why you think that's dubbing, I have no idea.

  • Yep I agree too. It's Hugh Beaumont. The quality of the clip is not so good, that's why you may get confused...

  • @dena81 it's dubbing because it's an outdoor scene, they usually redub outdoor scenes for better audio quality. but in this case it sounds like hugh was not there to go back and dub it over so they got someone who could sound like him.

  • @ClevelandRox24 I agree 100%. Your reasons why are exactly what I was thinking.

  • @ClevelandRox24 You're right, it's HUGH BEAUMONT, but it has less to do with the technology of recording LIVE sound and more to do with the fact that it's DUBBED!!! Sheesh. Best to you.

  • "it was well-know voice actress June Foray dubbing her voice." lol..ask 10 people who June Foray is and 9.9 will tell u they never heard of her.

  • Voice of Rocky the suirrel and Wilma Flintstone. Right off the top of my pointy leettle head!

  • It's very close to Hugh's voice if it's not him. The Twilight Zone episode Beauty is in the eye of the beholder starred Donna Douglas (Elly Mae Clampett). They didn't like her voice and used another actress VO. When they take the bandages off her face we see Elly Mae with a different voice..

  • Yes, it *is* Hugh's voice.

  • That is NOT Hugh Beaumont's voice. It's nowhere close. The sound would have been messed up in some way, like a previous poster stated. Likely outdoor noise, and they had to dub the voices in at the studio. Hugh must not have been available so they just used another actor. They wouldn't do that today but they were pushing many more episodes out each season back then.

  • OR someone could have dubed over it using video software.

  • I'm thinking it's probably veterean voiceover actor Daws Butler on this one!

  • whatutalkinbout willis?

  • Interesting.

  • I'm a Beaver fanatic and that sounds like Hugh to me.

  • Sounded like Hugh to me, but it was a strange soundtrack.

  • The sound is odd but the voice inflections are Hugh beaumont's. The voice sound a bit lower, that's all. Probably just a bad print.

  • what most likely happened is that the original audio got screwed up either by wind noise or a plane going by...or something....then it was over dubbed later in the studio. I agree wards voice sounds very odd. There is an episode of the old SURFSIDE 6 where they over dubbed the entire voice part of an actress

  • the Same Thing happened in the "Witching Pool" Episode of "the Twilight Zone". the Audio was lost , and a Few of the Little Girl's Lines were over-dubbed by Cartoon Voice Artist June Foray.

  • What I heard about the witching pool episode is as follows....the girl who played "Scout" in "to kill a mocking bird" was in this episode. They did not like her southern accent and over dubbed it....not sure if that was true or not. Also....there was an episode of "surfside 6" where the overdubbed an actresses voice through out the entire episode.

  • I heard the reason they dubbed over the little girl's voice is because her accent was so thick it made her hard to understand.

  • That's what I've read. I always wondered why that little girl sounded like Rocky the Flying Squirrel! Of course, it was well-know voice actress June Foray dubbing her voice.

  • Recording live dialogue when filming outdoors, even under the best of conditions, was tricky in the days before directional microphones and pin mics. It's likely that most or all of the dialogue in this scene had to be looped (re-recorded) in the studio, and that Hugh Beaumont was unavailable for some reason for the looping session.

  • i think it was just being out doors cause he sounded like ward to me

  • I remember seeing this particular ep. several times and thinking the same exact thing! Unless the acoustics from filming outdoors made him sound different. Sort of like when you hear your own voice on a tape recorder.

  • ... and We all know how scary THAT can be!
