The attempt by the fanatical Akkadian rulers to suppress the Sumerian language were rolled back, and a Sumerian renaissance occurred under benevolent Gutian rule. Describing the Sumerian revival under the Gutians, Badawy notes,The Akkadian dynasty 2350-2150 BC marked a decisive phase in the Semitization of Mesopotamia,a process which went on in spite of the renascence of Sumerian under the Gutians 2000 BC
