the only scene in this anime that made me cry...I mean, the whole anime had potentially sad scenes, but EVERY possible death except for this one had a miracle...
The same for Clannad, I cried while watching it but after seeing the end it becomes less sad...
I own a copy of the game and always have a save-file just before this moment , I really love Kanon the most of all the anime I have seen, I even bought a region-free DVD player to play the US DVD box..
And this uplaod is great for when I want see it again and again.
@zackwestrules Yes you will, and you also may understand a few references in Clannad (In After Story when Nagisa said that her mom's friend gave her jam to put on the bread, the jam was from kanon. The jam is almost the same if not worse than the bread, hence the reason everyone who ate it instantly fainted)
I love Makoto, her quick wits gave noise to the first episodes, they shouldnt have ended her arc so quickly. Ayus childlike innocence made up for it but still aint good enough to match with Makoto

@TurmoilTom theres plenty of times i wanted to cry but never did in anime(alot in this anime) but never actually did it, as of right now the only times ive ever cried are min clannad after story ep 18 in the flower feilds and tokyo magnidtude 8.0's final episode

My fave characters were Ayu and Mai, for some reason I just didn't like Makoto. Surely she's cute, like all characters, but she was annoying sometimes, that's just my opinion.

But since Ayu was the lead female character in the story, something would have to happen to Makoto. I also hated the beginning of the next episode. I forget which one but one of the 3 made a statement about keeping her room the same for when she returns. Which kinda annoyed me. They knew damn well she died. 2 weeks is a bit long to still be in denial over her death.

no makoto didn't die as a baby fox, she became human doing some fox thing. that fox thing can turn you human, but in time, she loses her human abilities and dies
@KrusHBaybEe Well remember, this anime is based off a visual novel. And on it there are 5 different paths that lead to different endings, so they put all of those into the anime.
It's not that Yuuichi LOVED Makoto. He only "married" her because he knew she'd be gone soon and he cared for her so much and knew that she'd sacrificed everything for him. Because of this, he wanted to fulfill the last wish she'd asked of him, "I want to get married with Yuuichi"

uh this show makes full and complete sense if u actually pay attention XP they tell u why. amano explains it. its too long to fit this comment box up. why she became human, and how is explained. go look at some of the episode between 1-10.
I had a grandmother who died from Alzheimer's disease several years ago. The part of Kanon 2006 from the scene where the price for Makoto's wish was revealed to this scene was the part I found most painful to watch.
Come to think of it, the idea of trading an unhappy but potentially long life for a brief time of happiness with a loved one was central to Air, too.
OMG! I try to never cry on this part but it was too late, my tears already fell down on my eyes. I can't believe it she has to die! She is my favorite character, I thought she could reach to the end of kanon's story but i didn't know that she wont reach into the half of the series. I was crying to see her not talk anymore and see her in pain. yuuichi desprately want her to ring the bell one more time. How i wish she was alive untill the end.
technically she didnt die, she was a spirit to begin with and only was "spirited away" (sry lack of better phrasing). even tho makoto was a total prick during her time as a human i was still depressed when she disappeared...especially because she lost her human senses towards the end...and don't we all want her resurrected, dont we all.
This part is where Makoto will disappear. Makoto is actually a little fox Yuuichi found when he was a kid 7 years ago. But because he needed to return to his own city, he parted with the little fox on a hill called Scenic Hill. The little fox desire to see Yuuichi is so great that 7 years later she returned and found Yuuichi on the streets. She sacrificed her life and memories just to take a human form and see Yuuichi again.
She was a reincarnation, in a sense, of the fox yuuichi found when he was a kid. He left her behind.. because it was time for him to go home. She wanted more then any thing to see him again. He often told her about a woman named Makoto Sawatari, a girl that he had loved. So she took the form of that girl. The legend of monomi hill (i think it was monomi) explains how the foxes became children, and have to go away. They slowly forget, and lose human abilities, and then they're gone.
She is the reincarnation of a fox Yuuichi found when he was a kid.. turns out it was a magical fox.. so she really isn't a normal human being, but a "ghost" of the fox's unfulfilled ambitions of being with Yuuichi, since Yuuichi abandoned her as a fox when he had to leave town.
This scene was definitely sad, even though the side story seemed like it was ripped right out of an angsty fanfic!
Oh, dear, I can't watch this again right now, it just hurts too much. I really didn't care for the rest of the show, but Makoto's story -- wrecks me every time.

one of the sadest parts of the whole anime, and one of my favorites. when i was orignally watching this i didnt cry, but after i rewatched it right now, as soon as makoto dissapeared a started to cry. great part of the show tho, it's just so sad
The only thing i didn't understand was the very last scene, because off in the distance there is a blurred fox, that looks like Makoto, is showed next to the regrowing tree, so would this be Makoto being reborn like the tree due to Ayu's wish?
Nope. Makoto is supposed to be dead. She was a fox, sacrificed her life and became human. Then when she got what she wants, she disappears. The last scene of her sleeping in the field is Yuuichi's imagination.
Nah, I'm talking about the very last scene on the very last episode, the part where it fades away to the tree and you can see it starting to grow back, a blurred fox appears from behind the tree, this is just before the ending credits.
What I'm sure is that miracle happened because Yuuichi wished to be happy. And if he wants to be happy, people around him also must be happy so those who injured all became well, and the one who gonna die, became well also. Cuz they believe the person dreaming can grant 1 wish in their dreams.
Hehe. Then there will be 2 makato. The adult one and the child one hehehe. Well, if she was resurrected in Ayu's dreams, then maybe she will be a fox again. So cute =3
yeah yeah, that was so awesome when yuuichi collapsed in the snow, and then he gets saved by makoto. and also fox makoto. man the part on the hill always gets me.
In the very last scene of the very last episode before the credits when the tree is seen growing back, you should be able to notice a fox coming out from behind it off in the distance.
Owner of what? Yuuichi wasn't imagining Makoto coming back to life in her original fox form, I guess it's how you interpret it though, but he definetly wasn't imagining the tree/fox being there.
I do like this part of the story its soo sad i wanted Makoto to be by him a little longer i cryed a lot i was like NOOOOOO MAKOTO T-T lol....Well Cya ^-^...

she just copied the name of yuichi's neighbor because he liked his neighbor and he told her while she was a fox and that is why there is a makoto at the end of the series and they have the same characteristics and like the same things

when i first watched this on dub version she loved yuichi but then she started to get weaker and the last time she was actually talking was when she said that she wanted to get married with him that was especially sad part and when he doesn't see her at the end i don't get it because her body has to be there it made me so sad i teared up for a long time and i was depressed for a week i always like her r.i.p

the reason why i cried so much is at first she was all jumpy and active such ( i hate that ) but then the more she gets sick she gets weaker and weaker by the moment ( Sad D: ). I can't stop crying when i saw that, she can't talk or say anything.THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME I CRIED SO MUCH IN AN ANIME . well i saw other animes like code geass,clannad after story,kannazuki no miko. BUT THIS ANIME IS MORE THAN ANY OF THESE. Makoto is now my favorite character. AUU~!!! LAB YAH MAKOTO!

I had a grandmother who died from Alzheimer's disease several years ago. The part of Kanon 2006 from the scene where the price for Makoto's wish was revealed to this scene was the part I found most painful to watch.
Come to think of it, the idea of trading an unhappy but potentially long life for a brief time of happiness with a loved one was central to Air, too.

OMG! I try to never cry on this part but it was too late, my tears already fell down on my eyes. I can't believe it she has to die! She is my favorite character, I thought she could reach to the end of kanon's story but i didn't know that she wont reach into the half of the series. I was crying to see her not talk anymore and see her in pain. yuuichi desprately want her to ring the bell one more time. How i wish she was alive untill the end.

technically she didnt die, she was a spirit to begin with and only was "spirited away" (sry lack of better phrasing). even tho makoto was a total prick during her time as a human i was still depressed when she disappeared...especially because she lost her human senses towards the end...and don't we all want her resurrected, dont we all.

This part is where Makoto will disappear. Makoto is actually a little fox Yuuichi found when he was a kid 7 years ago. But because he needed to return to his own city, he parted with the little fox on a hill called Scenic Hill. The little fox desire to see Yuuichi is so great that 7 years later she returned and found Yuuichi on the streets. She sacrificed her life and memories just to take a human form and see Yuuichi again.

She was a reincarnation, in a sense, of the fox yuuichi found when he was a kid. He left her behind.. because it was time for him to go home. She wanted more then any thing to see him again. He often told her about a woman named Makoto Sawatari, a girl that he had loved. So she took the form of that girl. The legend of monomi hill (i think it was monomi) explains how the foxes became children, and have to go away. They slowly forget, and lose human abilities, and then they're gone.

She is the reincarnation of a fox Yuuichi found when he was a kid.. turns out it was a magical fox.. so she really isn't a normal human being, but a "ghost" of the fox's unfulfilled ambitions of being with Yuuichi, since Yuuichi abandoned her as a fox when he had to leave town.
This scene was definitely sad, even though the side story seemed like it was ripped right out of an angsty fanfic!

one of the sadest parts of the whole anime, and one of my favorites. when i was orignally watching this i didnt cry, but after i rewatched it right now, as soon as makoto dissapeared a started to cry. great part of the show tho, it's just so sad

The only thing i didn't understand was the very last scene, because off in the distance there is a blurred fox, that looks like Makoto, is showed next to the regrowing tree, so would this be Makoto being reborn like the tree due to Ayu's wish?

Nope. Makoto is supposed to be dead. She was a fox, sacrificed her life and became human. Then when she got what she wants, she disappears. The last scene of her sleeping in the field is Yuuichi's imagination.

Nah, I'm talking about the very last scene on the very last episode, the part where it fades away to the tree and you can see it starting to grow back, a blurred fox appears from behind the tree, this is just before the ending credits.

What I'm sure is that miracle happened because Yuuichi wished to be happy. And if he wants to be happy, people around him also must be happy so those who injured all became well, and the one who gonna die, became well also. Cuz they believe the person dreaming can grant 1 wish in their dreams.
