  • amazing work man!!!!

  • hey awesome work but why dint u put that on the road and take a spin for us to see..?!! eagerly waiting to see that piece in action.. lolz :)

  • Wow, I am truly amazed!

  • Your video inspiring me man. Gonna start building like you someday :)

  • Very nice bike =) I am planing to make something similar as school project next year. Maybe with custom frame because I quit small sized=) Where did you buy batterys and engine. What kind of batterys you have and how far can you go with a charge?

  • Dope! Nice music choices as well!

  • the ION is incredible man. very inspiring. i can't wait to start building my own ecycle! specs can be extended with financial means, but to me, the striking part of every motor vehicle is the design and yours is just awesome. for your wealth, i hope your design will go into production one day. i myself would not want this because i'd love to see more individual designs riding around in the future ;) take care!

  • Thank you for the comments everyone. @ YoGuy121... I had to use a chisel to get the mold out of the tank fairing. The molds were made of polystyrene foam and had to be destroyed to be removed. I used three layers of fiberglass. Looking back as this project, taking an extra step and making negative molds from the positive polystyrene ones would have saved a lot of time and effort from finish work.

  • @tm70254 thanks for replying man i cant wait to see what your company as in store in the future

  • amazing job tom i love the ion and the build and everything about it but i was wondering how you got the tank fairing out of the mold and how many layers of fiberglass you added to each fairing

  • Hey Guisss!! AMMMAZing Job...TOTAL RESPECT,HOPE U'll get into a good businness..I just would like to have your passion!!!

    We r with YOU!

  • great job! i could never respect you enough for setting and reaching your goal. great job

  • what kind of batteries did you use and what kind of motor did you use

  • Veeery impressive?

    WHERE DID YOU GET BATTERIES?

  • Amazing job man!!!!!

  • Thank you everyone. It is great to see such a growing interest in the ION as well as all electric vehicles. @ lowlypawn The second song was "Waters of Nazareth" by Justice. Thanks again.

  • @tm70254 great work! where do you buy sheets of fiber glass like that? and how many hours did it take to build this?

  • Wow, that was a lot of work, very impressive! What was the 2nd song? I liked it (very industrial sounding) :)

  • wow dude thats like alot of work u went through. I bet it felt great when u took it out for the 1st time. hopefully i can build an all electric 2 someday

  • Hi TM

Me and my girlfriend are building a GSX-R 600 '97 electric motorcycle, with very similr specs to your bike, almost the same really.

Just wanted to know something about you build, and wether you would want to share your experience in building the fairings?

  • Good work!! It's the best home-made motorbike that I've seen. Next summer I want build something like this... but it seem too expensive... Sorry for my bad english =)

  • totally awesome, i was researching a similar (albeit simpler) build myself and came across yours!!! wow flabbergasted is the word :) you've made me think again and i hope to do something more ambitious than i was going to do. TY so much for the inspiration.

  • Thank you for the comments everyone. TechState... Keep me updated on your build, and if you have any questions I am glad to try and help. Good Luck.

    Tom

  • @tm70254 Ty tom, will do, i'm still in the "looking for donor bike" phase and still researching motors (hoping to use power generation for partial breaking) and if to use an cunning automatic transmission or not. (probably not at first). ty for your comment

  • Excellent build and video....5 stars for sure!

  • wow!! I was just about to start my own electric motorcycle build ....... uh wow!!! thanks for the vid bro it really kind of helped me figure out what I should do , how I should do it, and how to finish it. sweet build bro

  • TOM: you are the man!!!

    Amazing job!!

i whish make a ebike like ion for diary use

  • Thank you for the comments everyone!

  • Hehe I want one :P

  • What is the exact specs on this bike (Motor, Battery Pack, Controller...)?

  • Motor: Hi-Performance Golf Cars AC-15 (6.7") 48-84V

    550 amp rating, 89% motor effic., 43hp peak, 95ftlbs torque, 7500 RPM

    Controller: Curtis 1238 controller

    Batteries: Thundersky 40 Ah LifePO4 (24 in series @ 80V)

3.2V nominal voltage, 1.5kg weight per battery

    BMS: in development

    Transmission: 2 speed in development

  • I have been building funny things for years but I find this build one of the best I have ever seen......I am building a electric bike for myself.

A snowmbbile clutch system will do the job. Its a varieably automatic clutch system, check it out.

  • I will have to look into that option. Thanks for the tip.

  • so would these be going for sale and how much would one cost?

  • ::: 5 Fukn Stars :::

  • Great Job!

    Regards

  • outstanding build.

I'm interested in how you made the windshield? did you just heat it and let it drape down on a mold? what was the mold? did you leave the protective plastic on the thermoplastic or what was the procedure. does the project have a website?

  • The windshield was created using a piece of polycarbonate (remove the protective plastic) that I heated in my oven over a sheet metal mold. Any small imperfections in the mold transfer to the plastic so you have to be careful. I also was very careful with the temperature because polycarbonate will begin to bubble around the same temperature that it forms to the mold. Visit my portfolio by going to Coroflot's website and searching for Tom Miceli. Thanks for your interest.

  • You can gear the bike taller for a higher top speed but you would lose valuable acceleration off the start and at lower speeds. Keeping with the sportbike appeal, we wanted a good acceleration off the start and on tight mountain roads as well as the high top speed. A two speed tranny should solve the problem. Most companies opt out of a tranny because of space which could be used for batteries. Ours will be a compact extension to the motor which will not interfere with anything in the frame.

  • How will you address the power loss through the tranny? Gears can soak up 15% of the power. Is your controller is holding back on the amps through the first 1000 RPM to reduce motor heating?

  • Comment removed

  • In our low gear we will have up to around 10% loss to our gears; however, with our design in the high gear there are no losses. The motor controller comes with factory settings that do limit amps in the lower rpm range. We are looking into reprogramming the controller to gain some regenerative braking.

  • WOW ! DUDE!!

    Wonderful project! Great Job!

That machine is the shape of the future for sure!

    Electric is it!

  • Awesome, love the fiberglass mold idea. I'm most interested in the electronics, looks like an off-the-shelf motor. What is it and how did you power it?

  • Most of the drive components can be purchased on the electric motorsport website. The motor is the "AC 15" 3 phase ac induction motor from hi performance golf cars. It uses the 1238 Curtis motor controller and is powered by 24 40Ah LiFePO4 batteries from Thundersky. The bike also uses the NG1 onboard charger from Zivian. We are currently working on a custom BMS, a custom compact 2 speed transmission and an upgrade to the 60Ah batteries. Thanks for the comment.

    Tom

  • Why the 2 spd tranny? With 90 ft-lbs of torque available through 750RPM I would think it would simply be a matter of gearing for a reasonable top speed. Tesla motors got rid of their tranny in short order.
