Frankie was an incredible performer with his rich emotional voice. I believe that there is a live concert of Frankie up here that he did on his 90th birthday. He still had some voice left. He died in 2007. Frankie's recordings are up there with the best of them.
@thelilyve!! omg thats why im here listenin to it! i turned 45 today and avin few beers and remeber avin the lemon popsicle album so playin all the tunes from it!!
This song popped into my head for some reason this evening and I ended up singing it in the shower. I am only 44 but love this song as got it on the Lemon Popsicle soundtrack album for my birthday when I was in my teens. Still amazing to hear - anyone got a live video clip?
what a wonderful singer - he really touches ones heart - I give him all the points available . Maybe his words will wake up my friend and make him come back to me - but I know it will never happen - still yet - 5 stars !
This special song has brought back my one and only great love and fiancee from 1962 - it makes me very sad to know that he is now happily married in Norway to a 20 yr younger lady than I am. My sincere love for him will still go on until the end of my life - I sincerely love you Joan !
I agree! The missing narration, done in Frankie Laine's unique style of phrasing and inflection, accentuates the emotion conveyed by the song. Thank you for sharing it, anyway.
Everyone thinks Frankie Laine only sung western theme songs-mainly due to RAWHIDE theTV series, but he had no musical boundaries really. He was very much the opposite, and his fans will remind us that he could turn his voice to almost any style, including Jazz,Country,Popular and many of the so called 'standards'.This song is a fair example of the tender side of this extraordinary vocalist..He performed up to his ninety third year. Keep walking the dog Frank...your fan and friend,Fred Tappin.
most certainly the partly spoken version ist THE BEST - and that in turn WAS J. and my song - aloha e me kealoha me pequenio Joan

To FredTappin:
If you admire him so much, why do you mutilate his song ? There's a very beautifull spoken part of the song that you simply stripped out!!!
That was not cool...
