@blues970123 lol, this stuff isn't nearly good enough to be made into a full fledged album.. sure it's cool, and john mayer pulls this kind of thing off incredibly well; but it would be an extreme disappointment if this was all that was on the album
@bj1923 Wow your quite the writer. Your extraordinary deluded knowledge of an artists surpasses your low intelligent mind. In your reply you compliment Mayer then you criticize him for the mere idea of creating a record of what originally drew him to his craft. "making a complete album of him solo-ing" that quote is so juvenile it shocks me. Like I was thinking Mayer would JUST do an album of him "solo-ing over some turntables". You wouldn't know Mayer's potential if it fucked you in the face.
@bj1923 well unbeknownst to you, you assumed creating a instrumental album would be a step down which to me is a bigger leap than what I have made. You obviously have no recollection of any of your statements.

lot of the audience looks bored, although i can't blame them.
as much as i love mayer's blues and rock, he needs to listen to some more trip-hop down tempo guitar + electronic groups for inspiration and then try this again.
Mr. John Mayer made a complete genre of guitar work right there...we all witnessed a birth of something that can potentially be used for guitarists to come..
can you guys please get together and record something full length? or at least release this session, cause I know Blaze had to be recording that. What a smashing of genre boundaries.

lol hendrix and mayer cant even be put on the same stage, mayer cant play fast first of all. he blows, i'm already better than him and i've only been playing 3 years
Nice one, nbrandenburg. John Mayer has a ton of haters because of his early acoustic album. He started out playing blues clubs. What makes a great guitar player in my opinion is tone and innovation. One note from the greats and you know who is playing. Speed is irrelevent. And, I saw Mayer play a secret blues show and this man CAN and HAS held his own with the greats. He is still growing as a guitar player. Can't be crowned yet, but needs to be respected.
Ever watched Mayer's Any Given Thursday dvd? How about his soundstage performance? Or his Austin City Limits? How about live at the Bowery Ballroom? I highly doubt you're better than him after playing for 3 years. I know i'm not. BTW which song was yours on mtv again? hmmm
Dude, the fact that you have been playing for three years and still have no comprehension of the fact that John Mayer is one of the greatest guitarists of our time is truly mindblowing. Maybe you should put down the guitar and go flip burgers or some shit. You have no idea what you're talking about.
I agree with you Mr.defyvoxpopuli!!! John Mayer is WAY ahead of his time when it comes 2 playing guitar! It's increadible to see him jam like that... knowing exactly what 2 play and when!!
In my opinion on this particular video go to 6:05 and listen to that jam, I dont know how there isn't a little bit of everyone that feels that, even if you deteste Mayer. I'm tired of arguing, Mayer is a fine guitar player and musician, enough said.
Here's another guy that didnt get past the 7th gr. It's a sad fact that J.Mayer keeps having these photo shoots with the legends just to get street cred. If he really cared about the blues he would be a pure blues semi-obscure artist like SRV and not start out kissing the grammy academy's asses. Read before you write bro.
Just sucks to think how J.Mayer takes advantage of people just to get street cred tho. He's in all of deez foto shoots with old, starving and gullible blues masters and people let him get away with it like he's the 2nd coming of Hendrix!
John Frusciante (solo work) not to mention Miles Davis (Bitches Brew) has been doing this ambient music for years!
Readers of Rolling Stone #1020 said it best "actual musicians must stand on their heads and pose with a clown" to get coverage. Sad very sad...
Its cool to debate this but we don't need the negativity toward one another, enough bad shit in this world. Lets stick to half-ass sophisticated answers Philly.
tkdsk8er2... your an idiot if you think accomplished musicians like BB King, Buddy Guy, EC, John Scofield, etc. all want to play with him just to "get coverage" These are all musicians that are way past this in thier career. He's a talented musician, good songwriter, great guitarist. If he wasn't he wouldn't get the respect from other musicians he does.
You should take some of your own advise. The photo shoots only have come AFTER the music was laid down. Have you ever thought oh all the talented blues musicians who can't get into popular music well because the blues genre isn't popular? Mayer went the other way, and in his early recordings he even states numerous times that he had no plan of being an acoustic solo artist, it just sortof happened that way. BB King has a few grammy's as well, does that mean he kissed the acadamy's ass?
I mentioned that his earlier stuff is better because it only had subtle hints of d blues and d jazz. It takes a lot more creativity to do that! And one really has to listen hard to appreciate it. ADD ridden kids these days have to be "spoon-fed" their art and music to "get-it". You are one of them...
I think you just see mayer as a guy who became popular through pop acoustic music, and therefore can't move back into blues because he didn't start there.
I mentioned that his earlier stuff is better because it only had subtle hints of d blues and d jazz. It takes a lot more creativity to do that! And a person really has to listen hard to appreciate it. ADD ridden kids these days have to be "spoon-fed" their art and music to "get-it". You are one of them tarmactrr...

Yah but then again you like at half the people there and I bet none of them are musicians. This stuff is incredible, and you can most of it is improvised which makes it so great. I'm not saying you don't have a point I'm saying respect Mr. Mayer for being able to get up there and play like that.
B.B. King, E.C., and Buddy know that J.M. will carry on the blues for the new generation. They know he can PLAY the blues. When J.M. jammed with them at the x-roads, he was invited on stage because he proved that he has the potential. Those 3 legends (with few others) let more people know that J.M. is on stage with them because he deserved to, not to further help his career. If they were to be helping JM at all, they would let people know that J.M. will pass on the blues legacy.
If JM solely played blues, he CAN play it, but he's aiming for a wider demographic. He doesn't need to be another SRV, although SRV is his #1 idol.
but who cares, you only have an opinion. it's not even close to an argument. Pointing out grammatical errors to those who haven't "GRADUATED" from the 7th grade is a pretty weak defense mechanism. They can at least explain their opinion. You just say it's "boring as fuck."
Mayer's great friends with Jay-Z and Kanye, the whole hip hop community. I remember hearing that it was the 3 of them in the studio when Ye's Late Registration was finished. They all listened to the final product together. This kind of stuff is what Mayer's about! SO SICK.

Ever watched Mayer's Any Given Thursday dvd? How about his soundstage performance? Or his Austin City Limits? How about live at the Bowery Ballroom? I highly doubt you're better than him after playing for 3 years. I know i'm not. BTW which song was yours on mtv again? hmmm

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

It's increadible to see him jam like that... knowing exactly what 2 play and when!!

hahahahahahahahahaha... have you heard his cover of little wing?... youre one funny guy
leif77 4 years ago
In my opinion on this particular video go to 6:05 and listen to that jam, I dont know how there isn't a little bit of everyone that feels that, even if you deteste Mayer. I'm tired of arguing, Mayer is a fine guitar player and musician, enough said.

Here's another guy that didnt get past the 7th gr. It's a sad fact that J.Mayer keeps having these photo shoots with the legends just to get street cred. If he really cared about the blues he would be a pure blues semi-obscure artist like SRV and not start out kissing the grammy academy's asses. Read before you write bro.

srv wasnt obscure dude and johns one the best who learned a lot from srv, srv is imo the best blues player to ever live
KoreyWGarvey 4 years ago

Lets stick to half-ass sophisticated answers Philly.
thoops6 4 years ago
tkdsk8er2... your an idiot if you think accomplished musicians like BB King, Buddy Guy, EC, John Scofield, etc. all want to play with him just to "get coverage" These are all musicians that are way past this in thier career. He's a talented musician, good songwriter, great guitarist. If he wasn't he wouldn't get the respect from other musicians he does.

You are one of them...
tkdsk8er2 4 years ago
I think you just see mayer as a guy who became popular through pop acoustic music, and therefore can't move back into blues because he didn't start there.

With all due respect to guitar players everywhere this shit is boring as fuck. You could totally tell even the crowd is yawning.
The RedHotChilliPeppers have been doing this funky hip-hop ambient rock n roll electronic stuff for 25 years now and THEY ARE WHERE IT"S AT!
Weren't people already doing this kind of ELEVATOR JAZZ MUSIC mash-up back in the 80s? Exactly BORING AS FUCK! Thank you!
John Mayer you're a hack Sorry bro. Liked you're earlier stuff but now you're just trying way too hard!
tkdsk8er2 4 years ago

Handonam 4 years ago
and to add on to that:

SO SICK.
