  • I think the last time I saw this was when it first aired in the 60s but somehow, I remember them playing their instruments on the carousel...

  • Where was Clarksville- anybody know

  • This is supposed to be an Anti Vietnam song.

  • @tryithere Where does that come from?? i was there. Don't remember any reference to Nam. What do you know? Please advise on subject. If I woke up with my head sewn to the carpet, I couldn't be more surprised!! LOL!!

  • Sunshine, fun, care-free, happy, innocent. The Monkees epitomised all of these. R.I.P. Davy Jones.

  • The Monkees were my sanity as an abused child,my Beatles as it were, but better.

  • @pittypat98223 I just happened by this vid and by the way glanced at this comment......I was abused as well and just wanted to tell you, I was sorry for your pain, I suppose that's it....

  • I just loved Mickey Dolenz back then... such expressive eyes, coy grins, and beautiful hair! :-)

  • It's so sad what music has become. Davy Jones and the Monkees, along with the 60 music revolution was what harmony and thought out lyrics was all about. Davy RIP in heaven!!!

  • the 4 greatest grins in history was copied by the american version. the 3 pretty good grins. sorry mike. serious artist. my dads from el paso my moms part indian--- my grin is wosres than mike nesmith.

  • Davy Jones was innocence, fun, and sunshine.

He was something like nothing else and he will be greatly missed.

  • Im only 12 but I loved the monkees!! Especially this song. RIP Davey ):

  • Love the Monkeemobile!

  • 12 people missed the train!

  • just shows we are all getting old

  • @TONYSPURSMAN But we have memories. :-)

  • oh Davy we will miss you Thank you for all those great memories the show and my seeing you here in maine that was so exciting

  • Say hi to Whitney , Don C, Robert H(Epstein), and MJ. tell them we miss them too Davy. RIP.

  • R.I.P. Davy.

  • Anybody know if those are actual unicycles the guys are riding around on or are they something else because it looks like they have training wheels on them.

  • @Chibihalo2 A unicycle with training wheels is just the kind of zany thing The Monkees TV show was about. Kind of like The Beatles with their ski bikes on the ski slope, but with more of a Monkees 'not quite there' flavor.

  • ah the wild and carefree 60s....miss those days

  • Just wondering was it Davey or Mickey which had more Monkee hits?

  • Awwww....these guys are so young and cute!!!

  • 45 years later and re-listening to The Monkees ... I have to say that the best songs are really the ones that Mikey was lead vocal on. But when I was a child, it was all about Davy Jones. Mickey really had one seriously good voice.

  • They were better as Led Zeppelin.

  • @jauchiu the monkees were great, but zeppelin was awesome.

  • I loved The Monkees! Never liked the Beatles really oh dear...

  • The Monkees team knew how to pick and produce hits!

Inspired by Paperback Writer, and it has that Beatle sound.

Went to number one, BEFORE the show!

    To soon, Davie, to soon..

  • @peopleofthecircle Wow, it *is* a lot like paperback writer!! I never realized that.

  • @ClearSkyDay Written by Hart and Boyce. On the Smiththonian documentary on the guys, Boyce speaks of the PaperBack inspiration.

When I first heard it, I thought it WAS the Beatles!

  • Watched it every Monday night on NBC. I had that Pontiac GTO conversion as a model sitting in my room for years. Sheesh! Where does the time go.

  • Davy is on the "Last Train to Clarksville" (heaven) Farewell my friend! :)

  • Just sucks that Davy is gone!

  • Davy Jones did cocaine that can cause heart attacks !!!

  • Take this vs. all the crap these so called 'artists' record now a days!!

  • @Mars818: me 2!!

  • @TheAznative101: they were also from liverpool england as well as the beatles, u can tell by there accent, r.i.p. davy u r a wonderful part of music that will never leave my heart, i might only be 11 years old but u know enough to know u are WONDERFUL!!! So h-o-t-t hot!

  • @luvbird423 Only Davy was from England (I'm not sure what part). The rest were from America.

  • @george4ever26101 oh yea, liverpool england

  • The Mokees were a kind of american version of the beatles. Mad cap and fun. I was very sad and shocked over the death of Davey.

  • Forgot how good these guys were. Think the first of them was dubbed then they did their own work. Remember the Turtles?

  • The thing about this is that the Monkees were doing music videos before there were music videos. Amazing!

  • I'm 34, got introduced to the Monkee's in the 80's via Nickelodeon reruns. Davy Forever. RIP xo

  • OMG...Mike with a 6-string Gretsch, instead of his typical 12-string Gretsch!?! O.O

  • Do you know which episode this is from? Is it posted? Thanks so much!

  • @conniec1990yahoo

it's from 'Monkee See, Monkee Die'

  • Im playing these through a roland amp... and I sugest you do the same

  • sorry but not a Bonneville dumb ass. where's Mike???

  • Can remember exactly where I was the first time that I heard this song. New that there was something big there. RIP, Davy Jones.

  • I want the 70s back hate 2012 times

  • @mars188 60s

  • @mars188 Uh, that was the 60s times - LOL

  • @Crimble67 Bring them back too!!

  • @mars188 I miss the 80's

  • fuck the beatles....I loved this band..I don't care if most didn't play there own instraments!

  • @someymehra Um..no. There both great bands. Don't compare them...

  • @someymehra 1 watch your language, and 2 the beatles arnt as good but are pretty fantastic

  • @luvbird423 So. You don't think that the Beatles were as good as the Monkees. HAHAHA!

  • So long, Davy. Your talent and good nature will be missed. Thanks for making my childhood bearable.

  • Davy Jones took his Last Train To Clarkesville. Goodbye Davy. :(

  • The MonkeeMobile was a tricked out and chopped Pontiac GTO(426 Hemi with a super charged blower). Designed by southern Cal custom car builder Dean Jefferies. He was also offered the Batmobile project, but passed it to George Barris, due to a conflicting schedule.

I still don't know how 4 struggling Malibu musicians could afford that car. :-)

  • Davy was hope and innocence with a smile. RIP Davy and thank you.

  • Holy crap, how many maracas did Davy have in his hand?

  • @wrath231 How many are in the studio?

  • The 'end of the line'?

  • OMG just found out that this isnt the Beatles. Its like a few years ago when I thought AC/DC was still alive. How they got a new singer who sounds the same is a mind trip.

  • RIP Davy!

  • Check that hi hat. The best sound in pop music.

  • we thought they'd never grow old...

  • How could anybody be cooler than these cats!! Geez!

  • God bless you, Davy!! RIP. So many great memories. Wow, this takes me back.

  • Manchesters Finest RIP Davy mate

  • Davy Thanks for the fun and the music!

  • This is my all time favorite Monkees tune.

  • I used to look forward to their songs and silliness every Saturday morning with great anticipation. What girl of my generation didn't love Davy...Today I look forward to remembering with everyone else......and some weeping for sure for the beautiful innocence of those days.

  • @mlabuda61 Ditto!

  • @mlabuda61 I hear you! I grew up watching them too.. Had, of course, a special place in my very young pre-teen heart for Davy.....yes, those innocent and worry-free days are surely over.

  • @mlabuda61 I love Davy! I declared it three days before he died. I also love John Lennon and George Harrison. I miss the innocence too, and I'm only 14. I swear in another life I lived in the 60s.

  • @newallthestars100 You're a 14 with very good taste!!! Obviously, wisdom beyond your years, and an eye for the cute guys!

  • R.I.P. Davey Jones.

  • RIP DAVEY JONES

  • The fun times of the monkees show, RIP Davy

  • Loved this tv show. We watched it after cartoons on Saturday mornings, right after that weirdest of all shows, "H R Pufnstuf". :-) They were puffin' stuff alright. Smokin;!

  • เดวี่ โจนส์ ขึ้นรถไฟเที่ยวสุดท้ายไปแล้ว

    The Monkees

  • RIP Davy... :'(

  • Sing to the Angels Davy, We all will love and miss you so! I grew up with your music & was in love with you!

  • A sad loss, bon voyage Davy and may you reach a world with much more love than the one you left behind

  • I used to ride my bike very fast to get home to see them on TV.

  • RIP Davy, we'll be singing along for another 66 years. Don't you worry.

  • @ktmkiddy WHAT a wonderful thing to think of & write & to share.

  • RIP Davy. Very sad to have lost you. xx

  • I will always remember Davy with that twinkle he had in his eye for the girls . .

  • @duqmiguel Yes I remember that also, but did he ever kiss any of the girls? I don't remember.

  • R.I.P Davy x

  • Love YA!!!!!!!

  • RIP Davy, My heart is heavy today :(

  • Oh no no noo! Oh no no nooooo!

  • Why does music back then seem so much more joyful and fun than what we have today? RIP Davey.

  • Because today's music is absolute garbage.

  • @JOHLIC There is some good stuff still Check out the Head and the heart and Mumford and sons :)

  • @MusicMuze If I had to take a guess? Back then, it was all about the music. Today, is more about Image and pushing the envelope.

  • @MusicMuze

As I see it life was more simple ,less drama. We were actually able to really enjoy ourselves and life.Nowadays everybody seems to be in too much of a hurry ...

  • You will be missed..DJ

  • Marcia was very lucky to have Davy as her escort to the dance. I would have died. Love you Davy. May God bless your soul and may you rest in peace forever.

  • Rest in Peace Davy, you will be missed by all us poor souls. I guess you finally caught that last train.

  • Thanks for the memories Davy, RIP.

  • The Monkeemobile was actually three cars, one WAS a GTO and the other two were LeMans' NOT Bonnevilles that were created by Dean Jeffries NOT Barris. Get your facts straight numb nuts!

  • @blacksunshine51 Is this really necessary right now? Try to show at least a tiny bit of respect you ill mannered baboon.

  • RIP Davy. Thank god for reruns in the 80's and the time a saw you perform. I guess it's true, only the good die young.

  • Farewell Davy. On the eternal train to Heaven. Enjoy my friend You will be missed! RIP

  • It does make you think, he was from my generation. How long do we have left? Anyway thanks Davy and the Monkees for the nice memories. I remember watching the Monkees and Batman after school, the good old days!

  • What a talent loss to the music industry. Love this song. you will be missed Davy.

  • R.I.P. davey , a crush i will never forget.

  • I miss davy.

  • My god Do I feel old My sister had a crush on davey Jones I remeber wathing reruns of the monkeys in the 70s

  • these songs will never die!

  • As a kid, I spent countless hours planted in front of the tv watching 'The Monkees' with my brothers, and it's my earliest memories of appreciating music. A part of my childhood just died today. RIP Davy Jones.

  • sad thing, and that's young by today's standards

  • I remember listening to this song in my brothers red 67 GTO and being with him drag racing and beating the pants of a corvette. We have lost a great of our generation! Davey may you rest in peace, I hope your singing with the Angels and bringing their beat up a notch or two. Maybe when I get there you will be leading them in a new song the Last train to Heaven. Resit in Peace. With love forever.

  • rip davy

  • I loved The Monkees!! Last Train to Clarksville is still a great song after all these years.

  • Davey Jones will be missed. To hell with the detractors. What would the 60's have been without The Monkees. A big part of the scene 4 sure!

    RIP Davey

  • Today, Davy Jones took his last train to Clarksville. RIP.

  • vaya con Diós, Davy Jones,Peace!

  • The video and song are totally COOL! I hope before I die I will live in true Freedom like the Monkees did in the late 1960's! RIP Davy Jones!

  • the car was a bonneville not a gto......rip Davie,god speed~

  • Such great memories!

  • RIP Davy

  • Rest in Peace Davy.

  • RIP Davey Jones! May you rest in peace and thank you for all you have shared with us in life and the great music you have left us behind with.

  • Who cares if they were manufactured! If all manufactured bands were as great as the Monkees it'd be fine.

  • @2legs2armsetc Well said!

  • Love the red GTO at 1:08

  • @av8tor17b the "monkeymobile" was a george barris creation, and it was a pontiac bonneville, not a G.T.O., but yeah, it was cool!

  • @bentleysdaddy Not accurate, two Pontiac GTO styled by Dean Jeffries. Google "Monkeemobile" for Wiki and other sites.

  • ...Q.E.P.D. David...duele tu partida...mucho!!...

    ...pero...te seguiremos viendo. escuchando.....

...sos y serás siempre para mí..un gran tipo!!!!...

  • Ok, so they laid the groundwork for the dreadful trend of Disney making every tv star into a singer, but I can't hold that against these guys. Maybe music was just flat out better back then. RIP Davy

  • R.I.P. Davy Jones. I guess Davy Jones have gone to Davy Jones locker.

  • See ya on that Last Train To Clarksville Brother !!! Ya gave us a lot of laughs and Great Times !! Peace Brother !!!

  • We miss you Davy.

  • R.I.P in davy you will be missed

  • R I P Davy, you may be gone but you will never be forgotton.

  • Rip Davy jones,we're and are still cool, especially if you grew up listing to them and watching on tv

  • They were pretending to play there instruments and not even singing !!! LoL

    Awesome car though!!!!

  • @KicksAssify In videos in general no one is actually singing, they are mouthing the words... but they did really sing the songs. The timing is off on these big time. My friend & I used to laugh & mock them esp in "Valleri" with the tambourine, he shakes it and there isn't even tambourine at that time... at least not that 'fast'. Remember too, they were a mock band for the show, but the hype over them was so big they became a 'group'.

  • The Monkees were and still are cool.

  • 66 years old...too young. a life passed by too quickly but I am sure he had plenty of good times!!

  • Good Bye Davey..We'll miss you.

  • So, so sad. :(

  • Love you Davy... RIP!

  • Dammit....just heard this song today on the way to lunch. It was the LAST song I heard today! RIP Davey...thank you!

  • Good Bye ole friend!

  • another one bite the dust

  • Talk about blind-sided. I am just a mix of stunned and sick at my stomach. I was a HUGE Monkees fan as a child. Still am in disbelief. RIP Davy, you were no Paul McCartney or Mick Jagger, but you were special to me just the same.

  • @TheObsoleteman1 - Hello. Yes, me too. I was going to hide from all the memories today. Then, I decided that the best way to nourish Davy's soul is to WATCH, LISTEN & enjoy the wonderful gifts of MUSIC & LAUGHTER he gave us. (To each their own, though.) Best Wishes & PEACE to you.

  • I'm completely heartbroken at the loss of Davy.. Rest in Peace <3

  • R.I.P. Davey.....U will b missed

  • Chekov on StarTrek was a Davy Jones character. They could have switched places.

  • We'll all Meet up one day as all are times will come See you at the station Davy RIP

  • Rest in peace Davy Jones. You'll be missed
