Anybody know if those are actual unicycles the guys are riding around on or are they something else because it looks like they have training wheels on them.
@Chibihalo2 A unicycle with training wheels is just the kind of zany thing The Monkees TV show was about. Kind of like The Beatles with their ski bikes on the ski slope, but with more of a Monkees 'not quite there' flavor.
45 years later and re-listening to The Monkees ... I have to say that the best songs are really the ones that Mikey was lead vocal on. But when I was a child, it was all about Davy Jones. Mickey really had one seriously good voice.
@TheAznative101: they were also from liverpool england as well as the beatles, u can tell by there accent, r.i.p. davy u r a wonderful part of music that will never leave my heart, i might only be 11 years old but u know enough to know u are WONDERFUL!!! So h-o-t-t hot!
The MonkeeMobile was a tricked out and chopped Pontiac GTO(426 Hemi with a super charged blower). Designed by southern Cal custom car builder Dean Jefferies. He was also offered the Batmobile project, but passed it to George Barris, due to a conflicting schedule.
I still don't know how 4 struggling Malibu musicians could afford that car. :-)
OMG just found out that this isnt the Beatles. Its like a few years ago when I thought AC/DC was still alive. How they got a new singer who sounds the same is a mind trip.
I used to look forward to their songs and silliness every Saturday morning with great anticipation. What girl of my generation didn't love Davy...Today I look forward to remembering with everyone else......and some weeping for sure for the beautiful innocence of those days.
@mlabuda61 I hear you! I grew up watching them too.. Had, of course, a special place in my very young pre-teen heart for Davy.....yes, those innocent and worry-free days are surely over.
@mlabuda61 I love Davy! I declared it three days before he died. I also love John Lennon and George Harrison. I miss the innocence too, and I'm only 14. I swear in another life I lived in the 60s.
Loved this tv show. We watched it after cartoons on Saturday mornings, right after that weirdest of all shows, "H R Pufnstuf". :-) They were puffin' stuff alright. Smokin;!
Well however you look at the origins of the band,as kids growing up in the sixties they gave us hope, adventure and above all belief in individualism. The American English relationships seemed to be cemented somehow. What many of us became in our lives in part shaped by this.
Thanks Davy for helping us through our youth.
It was about fun and hope.Yeah above all made us happy.RIP

Marcia was very lucky to have Davy as her escort to the dance. I would have died. Love you Davy. May God bless your soul and may you rest in peace forever.
The Monkeemobile was actually three cars, one WAS a GTO and the other two were LeMans' NOT Bonnevilles that were created by Dean Jeffries NOT Barris. Get your facts straight numb nuts!
It does make you think, he was from my generation. How long do we have left? Anyway thanks Davy and the Monkees for the nice memories. I remember watching the Monkees and Batman after school, the good old days!
As a kid, I spent countless hours planted in front of the tv watching 'The Monkees' with my brothers, and it's my earliest memories of appreciating music. A part of my childhood just died today. RIP Davy Jones.
I remember listening to this song in my brothers red 67 GTO and being with him drag racing and beating the pants of a corvette. We have lost a great of our generation! Davey may you rest in peace, I hope your singing with the Angels and bringing their beat up a notch or two. Maybe when I get there you will be leading them in a new song the Last train to Heaven. Resit in Peace. With love forever.
Ok, so they laid the groundwork for the dreadful trend of Disney making every tv star into a singer, but I can't hold that against these guys. Maybe music was just flat out better back then. RIP Davy
@KicksAssify In videos in general no one is actually singing, they are mouthing the words... but they did really sing the songs. The timing is off on these big time. My friend & I used to laugh & mock them esp in "Valleri" with the tambourine, he shakes it and there isn't even tambourine at that time... at least not that 'fast'. Remember too, they were a mock band for the show, but the hype over them was so big they became a 'group'.
Talk about blind-sided. I am just a mix of stunned and sick at my stomach. I was a HUGE Monkees fan as a child. Still am in disbelief. RIP Davy, you were no Paul McCartney or Mick Jagger, but you were special to me just the same.
