  • This is blissful

  • masterpiece .. I'll pray for you Mr. hackett, simply marvelous

  • beautiful thx, Mark

  • After all these years I still expect this to be followed by Supers Ready. Thumbs up here, if you, too, expect to hear Gabriel singing "Walking across the sitting room.... " after hearing Horizons. In fact we all thought it was the introduction before we looked at the LP notes. .... Or was it just me? Oh well.

  • Does anybody what guitar is he playing?

  • Wow. I had no idea Hackett could play acoustic guitar so beautifully. In my view, he's much more musical than Howe. Howe is so ham-fisted. I'm impressed. (and yes, I do see the Bach derivative here. Still, it's amazingly well played with feeling).

  • Three dislikes? Must have pressed the wrong tab by mistake. How do you go to this video and not expect something besides what it delivers. Beautiful and timeless music.

  • reminds of : das wohltemperierte klavier by bach

  • THIS IS THE REAL THING!

  • hey!!..at firts is Bach! :O

  • super's ready is ready

  • @coherentmonkey

He looks a lot like the guy from prision break too

  • My graduation final project on English is about Genesis I LOVE YOU

  • emozionante.... cos'altro dire di questo dolcissimo pezzo ispirato dalla grande musica di Bach?

  • It s not a question of how many notes or how dificult . Back in 72 it was an incredible piece before the fantastic Suppers Ready music .

There was something magic about the music

I was only 12 and it blew my mind to a dream land

    Genesis Galaxy

  • I wish steve would do another pop album, maybe could be called 'Cured Again?' I think with the modern technology and his voice now being a lot stronger it could be a great release.. also he should bring back Nick Magnus

  • When that finished did anybody else start singing "Walking across the sitting-room, I turn the television off."?

  • Loll not Clint Eastwood.... He is Mahone from Prison Break!!!!!!!!! LOL

  • This man ! wrote some of the greatest guitar riffs of all time !!! Steve ! is a Genius !!

  • Beautiful!

  • My two year old girl just said, "He is cute".

  • When this guy was born He already had it all inside him. Superb musician be it acoustic or electric

  • don`t U think Steve is much better than Michael ?

  • Aaaaa Cest Ma Toune Preferer !

En + mon Frere La Jouee ! ! Taht Biouthiful Miuzz

  • lovely song

  • Steve Hackett has nothing but tons of beauty in his hands. This piece is just masterful, tender and pure awsome.

  • this piece was inspired by the prelude in G major for Cello by Bach,

but obviously Hackett just got inspired by that, it doesnt mean that he's actually playing THAT song, this is unique, and very emotional, awesome...

  • The first two bars sound the exact same.. I never noticed that. Weird..

  • Sounds great...wish it was a little longer though.

  • Nah, it's not that hard to play, but to play it with such emotion is the difficult. Steve Hackett is amazing!

  • Is mazing how he makes it look so easy. This is a very hard song play (i know because If now the entire music) and he plays it like hes playing a basic song that any baby can play. Very good.

  • Steve Hackett GOD

  • isso é bach

  • wonderful!!!

  • Horizons has been inspired by J. S. Bach: Suite for cello n. 1 in G BWV 1007 (Prelude). It is actually almost equal. Listen to it!

  • The intros are pretty similar. I won't really call it equal though.

  • You are right. They are not equal. But the inspiration has been aknowledged by Steve Hackett himself (he was practising on this Suite when Horizons sprang to his mind)

  • @IntuitionDigression don't get so excited... he lifted the 1st 2 bars, and that's all

  • jazzplati. I do not get excited at all. I'd prefer to hear something that is pure Hackett rather than Hackett-strongly-inspired-by-Bach. Hackett himself has acknolweged the derivation

  • @IntuitionDigression i thought it was based on rachminov?

  • Просто чудове і неперевершене виконання! Стів Геккетт завжди був Великим Майстром гри на гітарі. СУПЕР!

  • Turn the reverb up Steve

  • So I've just interviewed this gentleman here, only to discover that my very sophisticated KORG Tone Works PXR4 hasn't recorded a single word of what Mr Hackett said, graciously leaving me with nothing else than my memory to remember the ton...s of names and titles the man has mentioned.

Selling a PXR4 by the pound, in case you're interested.

  • I saw him doing this at University College of Swansea (as was) in 1983; (he performed it twice in fact that evening). When I see some of the talentless wannabees on X Factor, I want to show them this video and say; 'that's a musician AND Rockstar, so go back to your video game guitars'.

  • 0.55 ( 0.53 ) how epic doesn't that look ! With the lights !

  • so like very great llike

  • amazing

  • It's too cruel. I'm "supper's ready" hungry now.

  • This song helped me to fall in love with Genesis back in the day! It's as beautiful today as it was back then! You are a class act Steve Hackett!

  • He looks like Kevin Bacon.

  • more like ricardo

  • Younger Clint Eastwood a bit. Great guitarist and he seems like a nice bloke too.

  • this is just such a wonderful piece

  • elegance

  • im sorry, buy i pee myself, this song it's absolutely wonderfull

  • wonderful

  • Aie Aie Aie!!!! a tomber par terre <3 ( quand je serais la jouer comme ca^^)

  • MAgnifique!!!!!!!!!!

    CHris

  • One of the best guitarists!

    A real gentleman.

  • this man together steve how, ¡incredible!

two monsters of guitars. it`s a pleasure to me to litsening all their music, from genesis hacket, and yes howe. thank you for make us a goodness men.

  • Perfect and beautiful. As is Steve THE MAN.

  • The GREAT Steve Hackett !

  • Steve WE love you .

Return you and Peter to GENESIS PLEASE

  • esta cancion tiene mucho de johan sebastian bach suite N1 preludio para cello

  • It's an arrangement

  • Brilliant...

  • A wonderful combination of grace and dexterity. Though it is slightly rushed (especially at the end); this is my favorite version. I wish more of his nylon guitar work was availabe on DVD.

  • so simple yet beautiful in its own special way

  • the dead notes at 1:06 make me shiver :)

  • godstuber, are they dead notes or are they harmonics that don't get captured well on audio?

  • Well, you could very well be right, but even in the actual album version (off Foxtrot) they sound identical. The album was recorded in '73 so I could understand an audio quality and I can understand this being a live performance.

I think it is hard to tell without seeing that left hand. Harmonics or dead note, I absolutly love them :)

  • '72 rather, really should check over my posts :)

I looked at a few other versions and I think there is a good chance you are right- there is another version of it, though the camera is quite far away unlike this video which focuses on his hands, and it looked like it was not a dead note- but as said, the camera was far away and the differences of a few inches can easily be distorted by the distance and poor quality.

  • I've recorded a version too with a webcam and a microphone..nothing compared to steve hackett!!

but I'll be glad if you watch and comment my version...thank you!!

and...this song is really magical (:

  • !!!!

  • I never realised that Clint Eastwood was so talented.

  • you feelin' lucky punk?!

  • ¡ Es verdad que se parece!

  • The interesting thing is that Clint Eastwood also writes musical stuff for his own motion pictures...

    lol

  • @astrowisk Steve is Clints alter Ego :D

  • @coherentmonkey hehehe :-)

  • @coherentmonkey But that made his day.

  • @coherentmonkey

    hehe; right

  • @coherentmonkey ahahahahah

  • É vero amigo agnosticum61. Desde España: "mi fa venire la pelle di cappone" se dice "me pone la carne de gallina". Stecci cosa.

  • Ogni volta che la ascolto, mi fa venire la pelle di cappone. Fantastica!! e geniale Steve Hackett

  • I've heard this a million times and seeing this man play it still knocks me out. The shot fom backstage is awesome.

  • it sounds very potrait of tracy inspired lol...well the harmonics intro anyways :P

  • It could well be the other way round, "Horizons' is from the 1972 Genesis album "Foxtrot" and Jaco's album appeared in 1974. But a more realistic guess is that both pieces are based on Bach's first cello suite.

  • aaggh, i was never really a fan of the barouqe period. Still amazing though, cheers for the info :D

  • my dad played this for me and i recognized it as the cello suite. i played it on the viola one year :)

  • EXCELENTE!!

  • That is absolutely beautiful!!!
