I am using the same setup, FSA crankset w/ Force shifters. The only thing that I'd do differently is route all cables on either the inside or outside of the bars; not one on each side, it looks more pro. Otherwise the combo will work great
I am using Force shifters with dura ace derailleur and cassette. My bike will not shift to high (small cog) gear. The cable has slack in it and the high screw is adjusted all out. Any help.
@UnSaintLike pull ratio HAVE to be the same or else the cassettes wouldn't be interchangeable/ Anyway the problem was simply a tab on the derailleur that was too long and not letting it pull into the small cog. Works great. Force works with dura ace.
@stringcatt dude, what about force deraileur and controls with fsa crankset? the force crank is not available in 165mm that i need, and i cant afford red cranks at the moment......
I am very impressed with the simplicity of the "leap frog" mechanism. It works and is completely serviceable. Why the hell is it sooooooo expensive?!?!?!!?!
@CJ7with285andt18 SRAM Apex...mix and match where you can afford SRAM Rival...and whatever you do, DO NOT pay MSRP for the double taps, those are nuts expensive. ediscountbike has the best price for SRAM rival shifters.
@pcfxer I built a CAAD9 with used Red. It was great. But I sold it as I could not afford rent with over $3,000 in my road bike... back to my fixed gear. I'll look into another setup after this season and people start sell stuff on eBay after the season.
I have Red and have ridden Rival since 2007. I also have the new 2009 Rival on a few machines and I can tell you there is no compromise involved with SRAM road groups. Both Red and Rival are clearly a better investment than Shimano or Campy's comparable groups. That being said, I have no idea why anyone would choose Force. It doesn't satisfy a different need than Red or Rival already have.
I test rode an S5 team with SRAM Red...it's was noisy even when not shifting, and didn't shift smoothly at all
I don't know, maybe they put it together wrong, but I was not impressed...

@stringcatt
You'll have trouble getting the Shimano derailieur to work properly because SRAM and Shimano use different pull ratios!

Once u get used to double tap it is really a very good system. Unfortunately where I live SRAM is much more expensive than Shimano

looks like an awful long way to move your fingers to shift when in the drops...

@CJ7with285andt18 I hear you man. It is very hard not to spend money on a bike once you get started though ;)).

I just switched from Dura Ace to Red....very happy so far. The ergonomics are great and shifting is near telepathic. Very cool.

A great compromise between Campy and Shimano by the looks of it.
