Found the dark colored version or as I've come to fondly refer to him, "chocolate" breakaway yesterday. He was the only breakaway there, and he was on sale for 8 bucks. I just saw it, and I almost passed it up because I had to do a double-take because not only have I not seen a breakaway at my walmart, it was the only one there and a chocolate one to boot. Got an arcee too to go with him, all the ROTFdeluxes were on sale for 8 bucks. Review to come around Christmas or so.

By the way, I got mine at ASDA (the UK equivalent of Wal- mart ) but surprisingly, he was the only breakaway left! they had no normal ones, and one dark one so i got him! Guys, if you get him, open him up because what is the point in buying something if you are not going to use it?

well, if your friend is one of those 'collectors' that put theyre toys on shelves and never touch them then no, but if he is a normal person then yes, because otherwise there is no point in having a toy if they are not going to even touch it. basically, he should open it but also take good care!

My Walmart had both varients. I think I'm waiting til he comes out as Thrust, in a maroon color with a different head. The maroon red on the Thrust repaint looks really sharp.

UK Retailer Tesco today, had both variants in stock on the same shelf. You tell the colour difference easily in-store. As I already had the lighter version, I picked up the darker (So called Takara) variant.

I've also seen (but not bought) a darker variant of ROTF Sideways. It seems noticeably darker but (unlike Breakaway), there was only one of the variants on the shelf so I couldn't compare side-by-side.

I may pick one up this weekend. (Asda has *LOADS* in stock, so no hurry!)

The brown one looks cooler but it's tail wings are inaccurate compared to the real life F-35(which is my fav fighter jet)

I think it's a bit soon to say which one is rarer. I've seen both all over the place and for all we know, they might be phasing out the light for the darker version. It's just personal preference.

I say the dark version is the evil version of Breakaway and then the lighter version is the autobot version. I like darker version more though.

this may be a fluke and not a change in the production of this toy, because the japanese version is darker than the US version. since they use the same packaging and come from the same shipping facilities, a couple might have gotten mixed in, much like how a few jap universe onslaughts were seen in target stores

Maybe the commoner one (lighter colors) is the mass-produced version, but the ran out of the paint and changed it. If the boxes have the same stuff on the back then maybe that's it, if it says a different variation then yeah, it could be.

I modded my Breakaway to free his neckjoint and let him transform completely, it improves him majorly with his head becoming posable and his nosecone now slotting into his abdomen properly.

I hope to get the darker one too, will mod that one as well.

The dark one looks pretty cool - a bit more Army-camoesque. All I've seen is the lighter one.
