thank you so much for this tribute. i have followed peter's career from 'cheynes'. you did a beautiful job!!! his family would be proud of this. where did you get the wonderful onstage photos? photos of peter are rare, but he was a private man offstage... again, thank you and God bless you for this!!!
Pete is one of my 3 keyboard's idols (the other two are Rick Wakeman and Rick Wright actually). The musical sensibility of Peter, the way he played the Hammond Organ in his solos deploying his inner feelings in the keys is unique. After that, he hit you out with the Moog making you crazy, and driving the chords from one size to another on your head. Magnificent work Pete, your music will never be forget.
You only have to look at those he played with before Camel (Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood, Rod Stewart) and after (Van Morrison, John Mayall, John McVie) to know that he was extremely highly rated by those in the industry.
To me, Camel' classic line-up is the greatest prog achievement during the 70's. The perfect balance, having some complexity, sublime effects, majestuous compositions, unique ambiance, and lot more. When I show Camel to someone that like Prog, it's always a choice between : Wow, that's the one of the greatest thing i've hear in my life, on the other hand, some say that's pretty ordinary. The fact that they never achieved the same succes as,let's say another one of my favs,Pink Floyd, kept em good.
@Ogilla I completely agree. When people say that it's "pretty ordinary", I think it's because they have not yet grasped the song. Another thing that really amazes me about Camel is that they were fantastic, then not as great, then a bit better, then they returned greater than ever with Dust and Dreams, Harbour of Tears, Rajaz and A Nod and a Wink. Most bands just fade out, though they still keep on going (like my second favourite band, Jethro Tull), but Camel rose again.
I remember sitting in front of PB at a little San Fran club called the Boarding House, way back in 1975, touring for Moonmadness. The first few Camel recordings have stood the test of time for certain. Too bad Richard Sinclair was such a dick, and if Doug had to go, it's sad they could not have connected with Colin back then. Most of all, it's too bad that smoking was so prevalent with bands back then. Pete may have come through the brain tumor or not, but lung cancer is a bitch.
@pumpkinhold Yes, I agree... Imagine this band: Andrew Latimer, Peter Bardens, Andy Ward and Gary Thain (Uriah Heep), had Gary sadly not died in 1975... Pete was a genius, especially on the Hammond and Moog.
My hope is that you will issue a Tribute number 2 dedicated to his solo work :-)
My suggestions for including fragments:
In Dreams, A Higher Ground, Ghostwater, This Could Be Like Heaven!, Gunblasters, On The Air Tonight, For Old Times Sake, Scarletti, Spirit Of The Water (sung by Tallulah) and maybe to end it off some Keats stuff!
Nice!!!! I know all of Camel's stuff for 30 plus years and still go back to them for inspiration as thier sounds evoke a response of a good feeling. I am just delving into his solo work now. It sounds like he spilt from Any Lattimer, but brought along his guitar sound for his solo albums! A backhanded complimnent.
@Talleyrandful I realise that, but I do not own any of his solo work, and I will not download it, after all, I want to support his musical carreer and his family. Regardless, I think he was BEST in Camel, though much of his solo work was indeed fantastic as well. Hope you liked this one, even though it only focuses on his time with Camel!
@VWFringe My pleasure and my sadness... What a coincidence, I'm listening to prog in black Sennheiser HD 515 headphones now! They are pretty cheap, but very good.

My favorite keyboardist along with Tony Banks For some reason I find their work familiar in terms of music atmospheres, don't know why
