Throw in an advanced fcs, stabilisation, thermals etc etc and make the rounds airmode programable, like the bofors, and youl have a very nasty infantry killing machine...
filmed at the military shooting and exercise site named Poček, near the town of Postojna in Slovenia. i served as a gunner on the ZSU 57/2 in 1996, and we had "live" shooting at the same spot as in the video :=)
powerfull cannon, obsolete and inefective on modern jet fighters, but very deadly as a troop support weapon !
@udgosezana If you have a gopher problem, THIS THING IS SURE AS HELL GONNA FIX IT!!!!
How effective would you say this thing would be against say, an AH-64 Apache if the ZSU-57-2 spotted it and fired first? I mean, 57mm and the size of the muzzle blast... like holy sh*t! Damn fine as a troop support weapon but its open top means grenades can be thrown in if those using the ZSU are not careful. Also, shrapnel might be a problem.
my friend, this old AA cannon doesn't stand a chance on a modern battlefield, against any threat, from air or land...in no way :)))
yes, his cannons are powerfull, and in theory it could easily take down bigger stuf than the Apache is, but that's theory haha :). it was largelly used in the ex-Yugoslavia conflicts in the 90', like all other weapons that could shoot :)
@udgosezana I wouldn't be so sure if I were you. This thing would obliterate a humvee in about 2 seconds flat and as for infantry? I dont know of a vest that can withstand a hit from a .57 cal (14.5x114mm) round let alone a 57mm shell! Yes, its antiquated, no argument there but it still shoots and is therefore, still lethal. Don't be biased too much, this thing is probably being used in Libya right now for destroying shit. Or some other country. It will still blow something up.
@tvercetti1 well, i agree about that, but in a way that's what i said, yust used different words :)
you see, in the conflicts in ex-Yugo, you could see in action the Sherman, the Hellcat, the Jackson, infantry weapons from the 2 ww like Thompson, Bren, Sten and so on....and on a battlefield like that, the ZSU is effective for shure, on the other hand, a 50. caliber well placed and masked with perforating ammunition will do pancakes of it :) i don't know if Libya has the ZSU ?
@udgosezana I thought Libya might have had a few of these parked around somewhere in storage but then again, the airstrikes have likely taken out alot of their equipment. They were reported to have a few S-60 57mm AA guns. Libya is said to have about 250 ZSU-23-4's on inventory (wikipedia) which are somewhat decent though still old. Morocco is the only country in Africa that is known to have a more modern SPAA system in the form of a dozen 2K22 Tunguska's (SA-19 Grison).
@tvercetti1 maybe if they had some 57/2 somewhere, they shure are taken out, or by the airstrikes, or by beeing non operational, like most of the Libyan army :). they have Shilka's in large quantities, but then again, it is an obsolete AA system, not the case with Tunguska's tho :) may i ask you where are you from ?
@udgosezana Shilka may be old but the new versions I wouldn't be so quick to call obsolete. They'll still get the job done. Tunguska's and Pantsyr S-1's would be sweet.
@tvercetti1 ok sir, no need to be so misterious :)
a weapon developed in the 60's and 70's IS obsolete, from the first to the last. it may be not in a videogame or something, but in mear reality it is. didn't invented myself :)
@udgosezana His name is tvercetti1. And judging by his attitude and english he is from USA and likes the protagonist in the game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
Most folks in my country are assholes. you'll have to excuse him. :)
@udgosezana I have all the data on the systems I need, thank you very much. I know this thing sucks and you can find a helluva lot better systems out there to get the job done. That much is beyond dispute. But, it will still be capable of blowing something up. End of story.
This is a beast :)

This would make a very good gun if mounted on a BMP... and used as IFV... a lot better than the BMP-2...
zerocker45 3 months ago
@zerocker45 BMP or other IFVs could stand that much energy ;)

Cool. The self-propelled anti-aircraft gun ZSU-57-2 looks just like the one of the first Playstation 2 "Mercenary" video game.
