This is a great review, and taught me how to use an otherwise scary looking espresso machine. The spoken language shouldn't be a problem to anyone who can read English.
This guy makes sincere effort to create a video for all of us and some guys want to make fun of him?! I'm married to a Japanese woman and proud of it, and my children are awesome. Thank you for posting the video!!!
Hmm, it seems like an awful lots of steps for first thing in the morning when someone is rushing around trying to get ready but probably worth it in the long run, once you get good at it of course, as a replacement for the store bought beverages. How do you know how much of each to add? Is it just trial and error based on what you like? I have an espresso/cappuccino maker here at home and I never used it for frothe until I realized I might not have been steaming it long enough. Can't wait now.
Another cheap way to make a mocha would be to just put chocolate powder in the milk before you steam it, that way you dont have to mix the milk with the coffe/chocolate and loose your foam. You can also do that to make hot chocolate, just don't add the shot :]. Otherwise great video!
wow omg.......... the aroma must be amazing...... now u make me want to try ur coffe ahaha i dnt own an expresso machine maybe i shud get one yum. Then ill be awake like this all day O_O
@rostine1980 Oh yea? Spaghetti was originally brought to Italy from China by Marco Polo. Think of me next time you order Orange Chicken, I will laugh at you.
If you just want a rich coffee this unit will work. NOTE : all the steam models, like this one, will make little to no crema. I'm returning mine to Walmart and buying a ECMP(pump model) or better from Amazon. There really is no point in making bad espresso, with little to no crema. Do a utube search for ECMP50, and watch the shot, it's much nicer with a pump model @ 15bar pressure.
@rostine1980 No I fully understand what you are saying, and if slamming any one other then your race and sexual preference happens to be you preferred humor; I would expect you not to put forth the effort to type a whole word.
@ral5932 Hi I have a similar machine, and removed the frothing aid. I keep the tip near the service of the milk to get the most froth. However, the suggestion to froth for 1.5 minutes does not result in microfoam in my experience, but watered down milk. I found that stopping just before the milk gets too hot produces creamy frothy milk that closely resembles microfoam the most.
still not good enough. notice how the espresso barely has any crema. these 30 dollar machines don't give you much crema because they don't produce enough pressure. I would recommend going with the 65 dollar mr. coffee ECMP50. 30 bucks more gets you top of the line espresso and frothed milk.
What size/make tamper is that? I can't seem to find one small enough for the coffee holder in the Mr. Coffee I use (Model ECM 160). It seems to be about 2 inch diameter on top, tapering down to slightly less than 2 inches at the bottom.
Expensive isn't always better, but what I notice is you don't flush the steam nozzle before you place it in the milk. A stream of water always come out of mine at first but I have a more expensive one and the steam is ready even before I pour the shot.
A few suggestions. Use filtered water, leave cap LOOSE, then turn knob to heat. Do remaining steps to make coffee. Soon loud bubbling will tell you water is boiling. By now you should have your grinds and cup in place. Tighten cap & hot water will start. Eliminates step of hot water into cup. Another tip when you fill machine with water next time, turn knob to steam to let out any residue air pressure then open the cap to fill. This way you don't have to struggle with air pressure.
Any suggestions on how to make a better espresso? I use Starbuck's Espresso Roast. It has a burnt taste. I use 1 scoop of coffee to make 2 oz of Espresso (or 1 shot of espresso).
This video is awesome! Be sure to wipe off the wand immediatly like he said... I waited ten seconds and it was already hardened on to it. Also, you may think that a cheap espresso machine is going to be bad, but really they work great. Target has one in store for only $40. I bought it and it is AWESOME!! Wow
Make sure it is the foam, not the bubble. You don't want any bubble. If you are getting bubble, you need to lower the nozzle (more distance from the milk surface) If you are getting too much foam before it gets hot... what types of milk are you using?
Whole milk will get your even more foam than 2% or Skim. I'm wondering if you were just getting too much bubble. You need espresso grind yes, either buy the ready-to-use one or buy a grinder and whole bean to grind your own espresso. If you are just testing things out and not sure if you will do it often - don't invest too much on this.
I prefer the ECMP50. The pump included along with the about 15 atmospheres pressure makes for a great espresso. It also does a super job frothing / steaming the milk. About $60-70 at Wal-Mart but might have to be special ordered. Shipping free if you pick up at the store.
I bought the same machine at walmart. But every time I used it the coffee taste and smell like metal. do have any idea how can i remove the metallic taste and smell? BTW i've tried soaking it with vinegar over night, but comes out the same. pls help me with this thanks
Did you run it thru a few times before actually using it to make coffee? Also, please make sure to use distill water if available. How long have you had it?
you should probably steam the milk first then make the espresso. because the espresso expires fast and it should be added to the steamed milk right after the espresso is done.
