  • Scary as hell

  • when we were driving to south carolina, we had to hide under an overpass from that.

  • I used to chase storms. Then i took a arrow to the knee

  • @1MaskedMexican no, not funny

  • @therealslimshady291 Fuck you

  • @therealslimshady291 it is funny

  • @therealslimshady291 you look funny

  • Joel's Post 2 of 2) Since my last post (post 1 of 2) I've run your vid several more times. BTW, I really like how you have slo-mo in this clip...thanks. For spotting anomalies like I'm trying to do, it really helps! Anyhow, what I termed a rain-free base might actually be a RFB of a 2nd wall cloud. As this vid continues, at around .50 secs I see a long horizontal appendage flow out from the wall cloud from left to right. It is attached to the wall cloud, it's an inflow-tail. Yes..tornado #2..

  • @WickedTornado - That is interesting! Very hard to tell from the video for sure if it's another small funnel, or just scud associated with the storm inflow, especially considering the slightly hilly terrain. I took a quick look at some radar images from this day and they didn't seem to hint at another organized circulation there, but this could have been an extremely small-scale and perhaps short-lived feature. We may never know for sure. - Kevin Smith

  • @WickedTornado That's a rain-free base..at least what they look like. any inflow notches in this as it moved along or rotation just above the base-level scans they normally show?

  • @ChristopherSaindon I certainly know what a rain-free base looks like...haha. But I don't understand the question you're asking me....are you sure you didn't mean it for someone else?

  • @WickedTornado Sorry :) They're just radar signatures that someimes help out. This was a scary day and I was SO worried it would be much worse. The March 1984 outbreak was horrible and I remember it so well. They were all massive that day too (some 1500-2000 yards wide or more). It' amazing how much worse the YEAR 2011 would wind up being for the US :( I hope we can hold fatalities down to a record low this year. I want revenge! I want 100% survival in the next F5 :)

  • @ChristopherSaindon Chris, do you work for the NWS? I too, hope that the fatality rate is at a record low this season. I hate to be pessimistic, but...people still....after ALL these years, public service announcements, educational outreaches, etc. do not know the difference between a tornado watch and a tornado warning. You know, Joplin had (I think) 20 min. lead time. That, as you know..is not only remarkable, but fantastic. But look at the fatalities. I don't have answer.

  • Being on the radio that day was something I'll never forget....

  • I'm a very experienced chaser who chases the midwest for a month each spring. This is very good footage, especially for guys that aren't pros. Well done! Two things: I think the cars speeding past you felt that they could beat the tornado, and perhaps they did...BUT...my trained eyes think I detect a SECOND tornado in front of the main one?? Look directly behind the bridge, back in there aways. I'd bet money on it. Not as strong as the main one, but still...a tornado on the ground. Am I right?

  • @WickedTornado I didn't notice it. Is it possible to give me a time frame in which to look?

  • @eyewall41 I just got home tonite, and fired up my emails immediately. I'll look at the vid again tonight later on, and can give you the timeframe. I'm sure you'll see it. Not that I'd ever call myself any kind of expert...but chasing for 25 yrs. and viewing tons of video and photos, a person can kind of get a wary eye for anomalies like background funnels. Like a guy who has lots of experience walking around the countryside and has looked for arrowheads for years..you get good at spotting 'em.

  • @WickedTornado Thank you. The NWS confirmed only the 1 tornado in this area as far as I am aware but it certainly could have been a funnel off the ground or in a field where no damage occurred. None the less it would be important to the local case study. I do know this supercell cycled several times on a very long track so I don't see why it isn't possible. There very well could have been 2 mesos with the obvious tornado being dominant.

  • @eyewall41 Joel's Post #1 of 2 ) Look at the bridge in the background. In the middle of that bridge is the vertical beam of the bridge. At .24 seconds, look directly ABOVE the beam. You will see a wispy, dark funnel extending all the way to the ground, Which in our view is the top of bridge. This is your second tornado. Notice it descends down from the flat-ish rain-free base of the t-storm, and there are no other features like it on either side of it. It moves from left to right. See my post #2

  • @WickedTornado Ahh yes I do see that! Wow I was too focused on the main tornado.

  • that's travelling very fast!

  • My name is Chase Wilson.........

  • ITS DARK AF! COOL!!!XD.

  • great footage and thanks for avoiding the porno music people seem to have to include in a post all the time. I can't believe the cars keep driving to it!

  • WOW! Great footage and you really manage to stay cool throughout! You guys are very brave! I have a lot of family in that area so it was a very scary day for them! Thanks for sharing your images!

  • Who are you talking to Skywarn UHF?

  • @1998disco72 - We were reporting to Central Carolina SKYWARN (CCS) via the CCS primary frequency of 146.880 (VHF 2-meter band). We are very fortunate to have an extremely professional and well-organized SKYWARN program for amateur radio in this area. For this particular event, Central Carolina SKYWARN was operating directly from the National Weather Service in Raleigh, so our reports were handed over to the forecasters in real-time and put out as Local Storm Reports. - Kevin Smith

  • i was standing in the door way of my house and watching this tornado form behind a neighboors house as it was on its way to wilson from lucama

  • WOW, beautiful tornado!!

  • I Live In Charlotte Nc, I Was Still Very Scared Thou.

Our Tree Fell, And Many More

  • I live in raleigh and the tornado was 15 miles from my house. luckily I didn't get hit, but my math teacher's house got damage.

  • how big ? and has mount pleasant Nc ever had a tornado

  • I don't understand why cars are going towards it..

  • You must have been very frightened!

  • I live in Los Angeles CA sorry everyone no tornadoes ever been, unless you like earthquakes, wildfires, strikes/ pursuits, and riots. ( the four seasons of California).

  • i live in Fayetteville and and the one i seen was scary as fuck! 92 tornadoes tore through our beautiful state April 16! A day that will never be forgotten!

  • I live in snow hill NC, The tornado that hit here, was a mile behind my house. Very scary.

  • i was in goldsboro and when its said a tornado droped down in elroy i was terrified

  • Dude this was sooo awesome.. I live in Pikeville, which is near Goldsboro. But i was in Wilson that day. Man scary stuff!

  • this is awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @kLaLuVsJb me too but the closest things we've ever gotten to tornadoes was rotating wall clouds, thats it

  • If that tornado was in the middle of the freeway IL drive around and drive as fast as I can dodging cars in the opposite direction.

  • This is some really amazing footage!

  • Nice catch! NC have been getting some big tornados.

  • Thank you for sharing your video! What camera did you use to film this, if you do not mind me asking?

  • I see a grumpy face at 00:45 (: right above the tornado.

  • HOLY POOPIE DOOPIE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • listen u fucka2 bitch girl WTF...."POOPIE DOOPIE?" REALLY

  • i never heard of Wilson,n.c. getting a tornado until this year

  • amazing video. i think i have a new love for storm chasing thanks alot!!!

  • None of you realize how much you take nature for granted. Ive wanted all my life to see a tornado in person. Where I live tornadoes are unheard of.

  • Awesome video, what software did you use to set the enhanced contrast

  • If i saw that thing, i would turn the car around and drive the other way at like 150 miles an hour screaming...

  • Insane.

  • I can't imagine that shit in Michigan.. it'll tear this bitch apart;

  • Lol!

  • ITS A TARNADER RUNNNNN AWAYYYY

  • Absolutely breathtaking. Seems like this tornado was a bit more put-together than the ones in Clinton (where my mom once lived), and Sanford. I've seen the videos of those as well, and they looked a lot more loosely connected. This one looks like a stovepipe traveling down the road. Incredible.

  • @b3j8- "large tornayduh"..we're in NC - not Brooklyn..troll!

  • I had never seen hail as big until that day...

  • looks great in hd. thanks

  • Thanks for posting this excellent video. It's so rare to get picture-perfect chase conditions in North Carolina, isn't it? I mean, you appear to be sitting right in the RFD so you get the funnel, the wall cloud, the whole shebang. Compare this with footage from the Raleigh tornado which shows that it was mostly rain-wrapped in Wake County.

    Awesome chasing! :-D

  • great vid! wanted to be a storm chaser when i was little, then it turned into wanting to be a meteorologist, and now i'm actually planning on going to school to be an architect haha talk about change in plans! :P anyway, i live in the wakeforest/rolesville area and my neighborhood was justttt shy of getting hit by the one that went through downtown... still pretty scary though

  • AWESOME

  • Amazing!

  • The gal on the radio is calling it a "large tornayduh" !!

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!thats huge!

  • Wow!! You are guys are crazy!! Great Footage!!

  • Cool vid bro!

  • I am in awe at the power of that tornado. Thanks for posting Jeremy.

  • I live in Vancouver, and we never get hurricanes up here. This video gives me more respect for these massive forces of nature. Good job recording!

  • Awesome Tornado video. Thanks for posting vid on you tube!!!

  • Thanks for posting this I was listening to the whole thing on that same repeater.

  • Thank you for this AWESOME video! I live in Jacksonville which also got hit hard, but this is unbelievable.

  • @VideoGuyNC Your welcome it was a surreal day!

  • Comment removed

  • @VideoGuyNC i live in jacksonville too :D i know it was terrible here....

  • is your windshield busted up from the storm on sat?

  • @smmfnn No that has been there long before that chase :)

  • That thing is ugly and mean.....damn mother nature, but i respect her.

  • @wataki2 I seriously don't think it was mother nature. Scientist have already come forward and confused they use chem trials to control the weather. They have ways to make man mad earthquakes too. I feel sorry for the people it hit. Many Blessings to them all

  • @purplefreakfaery You mean chem trails or chem trials?

  • @blessed7588 Chem Trails sorry. My keys are sticking

  • @purplefreakfaery Man, you couldn't be more wrong, regarding to the tornado being "man made". I've been chasing storms for decades. Chasers knew two days prior that the day of the Joplin tornado that there'd be tornadoes that afternoon. It's impossible to tell exactly where one will hit, but that's why you've got so much video of the event....guys were positioned around the area. Even if things like chemtrails could change the weather...there's no way to make a tornado.

  • @WickedTornado If they can make small versions in labs what makes you think that some one has not come up with a way to make them bigger lol. HAARP is a good example. Got to love sheeple people

  • @purplefreakfaery Oh, so now I'm "sheeple people" because I disagree with you? I'm sure you do love sheep....pokin' them from behind. No, buddy.....your imagination is running wild with what you suggested. It ain't happening. Probably never will. Baa Baa Baaaaa ..."oh....don't stop, purplefreak...oh ....ohh yeah....baaa baaaa ..baaaaaaa.

  • Great video!! without garbage commentary.

  • @crambone20002000 Thank you! We definitely tried to stay composed despite the adrenaline rush.

  • awesome freaking footage, damn!

  • I was sitting on the sofa with my boyfriend dog at his house. His dog start jumping around and acting crazy. So , I was trying to calm her down but she just kept going crazy (it was about 2:45am). Then I got up to wash dishes and the lights went out. I walked slowly to the bedroom to wake him. The bed was shaking. it last for about 5 minutes but felt like forever. And the funny part, when I was trying to tell him, he was more concern at why the door was open, LOL! THANK GOD the roof didn't open!

  • Thank you so much for the video! Man.... and I THANK GOD that you all are safe, tornadoes are nothing to play with. The storm actually started on my street in Texas. I just stock at how far it went and huge!

  • This reminds me of the movie Twister!

    Most impressive!

    Excellent video!
