It's funny how nowadays people (especially americans) wish to be "put out" during this procudure. I'd think exactly the opposite! I think that everybody asking that makes doctors get used to give higher doses of hypnotics/anesthetics, increasing risk, and also being more careless at maneuvers, after all, you'll be "put out".
I think conscious sedation is the best approach in most of the ordinary cases.
But colonoscopy is indeed a fantastic exam that can save lifes.
Ok, I had my Colonoscopy done 2 months ago. it was my first and everything was fine. I was told to schedule my next one in 5-7 years I'm 53 so felt good about that. I wish they had put me out but instead gave me something like a tranquilizer and at times it hurt really bad but the test only took about 20 mins. Oh yeah I asked what the bill was and the billing dept. said it was $3600.00 this was done in Worcester, MA My health insurance paid most of it. I will go to my next one as prescribed.
We can avoid ourselves from having colon problems by maintaining a healthy diet. It is said that foods like fruits and vegetables are a good source of fiber that can help our colon in disposing wastes. maintain a good bowel movement because wastes that gets stucked in our colon contains toxins that triggers diseases.
Roxanne, good advise but how exactly does one be careful with their health ? I have a Colonoscopy next week my first, I just hope they put me out so I don't feel anything.
And yes you are right for a guy this is embarrassing, but not as bad as not having one done at all. This will be my first and I have been putting it off.
Although there are some factors that we don't have control like for instance, you have colon disease history in your family there's a high possibility for you to have it too. Other factor is the age, people who are in their 50's has a higher risk to have a colon disease

Can you put the Megachannel in by itself and then the 'scope through it? Then you probably won't need Demerol!
