This Albert Hammond("Free Electric Band") song was recorded at Duane Eddys' studio in L.A. just before the Everlys split up for 10yrs.It was the no1 track on Phils' 1st solo album "Star Spangled Springer" which will be available after 30+ yrs on CD this month(February-2012)--about bloody time! The album also features the beautiful "Snowflake Bombadier" which is signed off by Duanes' guitar work.Excellant posting! Many thanks!
Wish the Everly Brothers could get back to gether and help clean up the state.
The litter scene in KY's getting BAD. I read Kentucky is now the #1 worst state for littering and least clean environment, in the American State Litter Scorecard.
Beautiful version. At the very end it sounds as if he's saying goodbye to his loved one. "peace came upon me & it leaves me weak" he's at peace cos she's no longer suffering, weak cos he has to face life without her. "sleep, silent angel go to sleep..." he tells her as she closes her eyes for the last time before passing away.
This is magnificent, and dare I say, it makes the Hollies version pale in comparison!LONG LIVE THE EVERLYS! Thanks to: sonnydevaney for the upload, and as always, The Tube for leaving the light on the space!
Have you ever heard anything so breathtakingly beautiful? If so, I would have to say it's another song Phil does and that is "Dare to Dream Again." Thank you, ksnija, for sending, and sonnydevaney for posting.
This is actually Phil Everly, singing both parts. It is the original version, before the Hollies recorded it. Thanks so much for posting. It is an incredible version of the song, just beautiful!! 5 stars.
@justmusicandme -- The original was actually done by Albert Hammond, the song's co-writer, but I agree this version is great except for the background vocals.
@caramiay - Thanks - I didn't know Mr. Hammond - brilliant songwriter, along with Mike Hazlewood - had recorded it earlier than Mr. Everly! I have to agree about the background vocals - when they come in at 2:17 and at 3:06 - those la-las could have been left out. IMO they detract from Phil Everly's masterful vocals.

So much better than the Hollies version, so subtle.

Albert Hammond songwriting genius! (With Mike Hazlewood)
Very "sweet" version...imho not as haunting as the Alan Parsons production of the Hollies...
