Because of this, north vietnam could declare a war for the liberation of the south, score a huge domestic propaganda victory, and also because they could declare a war of liberation, they were able to get massive aid from the soviets, and even from the chinese, their historic enemy. Without the US, they never would have had a war on the massive scale the US and soviets escalated it to.
Even the training the arvn got from the US hurt them in the long run. The US tought the ARVN to fight an american war, as if they were in the US Army. The ARVN couldnt rope an artillery piece to a chopper and take it to a strategic hilltop. The ARVN had none of the US technology, and when the americans bugged out, the ARVN was pretty much screwed.
@Jellolion1 Are you familliar with the battles of An Loc and Xuan Loc? You negate the military ability of the ARVN when they stopped the communist offensives many, many times. The last offensive was a blitzkrieg style attack with perhaps a thousand Soviet and Chinese tanks, without US air support they were screwed but ARVN fought well for a long time. Lack of upper leadership was their main issue that had nothing to do with US training.

I visited the gravesite of where 3 were buried. They were killed by a single bomb dropped by a c123 out the rear. It blew most of them apart and it was difficult to recognize who they were so they were all buried together in pits of 500 each.
It must have been a horrible ballle since 172 B-52 joined the fight. my Hats off to both sides and too bad the war even took place.

north vietnam took advantage of the US getting involved in the war, especially the coup against Diem. Because of this, north vietnam could declare a war for the liberation of the south, score a huge domestic propaganda victory, and also because they could declare a war of liberation, they were able to get massive aid from the soviets, and even from the chinese, their historic enemy. Without the US, they never would have had a war on the massive scale the US and soviets escalated it to.

Even the training the arvn got from the US hurt them in the long run. The US tought the ARVN to fight an american war, as if they were in the US Army. The ARVN couldnt rope an artillery piece to a chopper and take it to a strategic hilltop. The ARVN had none of the US technology, and when the americans bugged out, the ARVN was pretty much screwed.

@Jellolion1 Are you familliar with the battles of An Loc and Xuan Loc? You negate the military ability of the ARVN when they stopped the communist offensives many, many times. The last offensive was a blitzkrieg style attack with perhaps a thousand Soviet and Chinese tanks, without US air support they were screwed but ARVN fought well for a long time. Lack of upper leadership was their main issue that had nothing to do with US training.

I lost my friend in Phan thiet, Pleiku, Kontum, most of it in the second area of the south vietnam. History does not neccessarily repeat itself. No China Emperor ever set foot on any vassal states, not even Mao, china emperor of 20th century. Jiang and Hu came to Hanoi. VN and China relationship is complex and full of love and hatred. When China is in chaos or harrassed by the babarian, vn is fully free. When vn is weaken by civil war, or missed- rule by incompetent, in this case vncs in 60 yrs of their existence ,china takes advantage. There is a pattern of history but not a repeat.

DO u know about VC's tactics? they forced the civilians to charge first, so they could make the south amry confuse, and scare who was vc, and who was innocent people. so they can reduce their dead by replacing the civilians. that why they had some fucking victory. and they showed for the stupid journalist that the south amry not them who killed the civilians. what a shame! fuck VC
