  • and do you have to remove all the blue crytals before you crush them as well too?

  • i gotta ask, how long ago was it when you got rid of them? and have they been gone permanently ever since then?

iv been reading so many comments on this and the other video as well, and alot of people seem to be arguing that its bad for your health or whatever lol, is that true?

cuz if it realy works im gona use this method

  • Yeah, it's a baaaaad idea powderizing that if it's the blueish silica gel (carcinogenic cobalt salts are used to indicate water absorption through color change)

  • I'm not an expert on this subject but Silica dust is dangerous to inhale. I would be very careful with this idea.

  • One Very important thing I want to point out to anyone living in an apartment building with this problem is,Don't forget to spackle and plug up all holes in your home,Light fixtures,Spackle along the outside of all of the outlets,Any cracks must be filled,You wanna start to contain the problem, and put as much distance between you and them as possible! You wanna start to make their lives a little harder, right off the bat!Good Luck!

  • Diatomaceous earth=dead bugs of all kinds

  • I will try this out asap. Thank you sir. Kind regards.

  • @hardrock2552 Thanks for your A.S.A.P. Attitude. Your ASAPness will definitely pay off. No rush though it takes a week or two or three or a couple of months to notice results. 100% guaranteed results. I bet my sister's life!

Just joking, I love my sisters(blood and spiritual). However you can have any of them if you trade me for your credit card !!!

    Hehe!!

  • I'm going to try it now, I grounded the cat litter in my blender, it worked great its now smooth powder, now to see if it works on the bed bugs. I got my fingers crossed &

  • @r3ckl3ssh3art

Have faith my friend! It will work like MAGIC, MAGIC, MAGIC. vOILA! After a couple of weeks, BEDBUGS GONE, GONE, GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GOOD TO HAVE ANOTHER CONVERT.

  • what he forgets to say is u put it in some thing like a tuna can on the 4 legs of the bed thats the key part he forgot .

  • @spetznas37 The tuna can idea sounds good to keep the powder less messy. If a person lives alone he can go more crazy with the powder and not worry so much about the messy look. The more powder you use and the more crazy you are to put it almost everywhere in the bedroom areas the quicker it will work. I especially put it on my bed (yes on top) around the edges. It is my line of defense as I sleep.

  • Certified? Most of these pest people are idiots. Or they purposely don't treat your place effectively so you have to call them again. Its like a locksmith. Any qualified contractor can install a door frame and lock that is kickproof yet few do. Diatomaceous Earth (food grade, fresh water) is the only solution that works now and in the future. You don't need any "certified" moron to do it. You DO need a full face respirator to protect yourself from the dust 100%. You put it in the walls.

  • The reason bed bugs are such a problem, is that non-professionals think they can treat the problem themselves, the method they use often helps spread the problem to other apartments. If you think you have bed bugs have your place inspected by a certified pest control professional, who will walk you through the preparation before treatment and follow up. Don't think because you read something on the internet it makes you an expert. "No one is an Island unto themselves", leave too a pro.

  • we have bed bug right now. we had to throw out a love seat and a sofa that wasn't that old. we are having to live out of bags. we just want something that will get rid of them. the spray the exterminator uses don't seem to do much. i live in a apartment and i am sure the rest of the building has them.

  • peppermint oil can kill them non- toxic and smells good

  • Where do you put the stuff? Bed? I mean it doesn't seem like it would be very smart to breath this stuff in while you are sleeping.

  • Diatomaceous earth can be used to kill bed bugs. You can get this type of product prepaired with the proper mixture of other chemicals to target bed bugs. Most hardware and gardeing centers sell this product. It is not expensive. It takes a while to work. Also, put each of the legs of the bed in to a stainless steel bowel. They cannot climb the outside of the bowl. Bugs can climb wooden legs of the bed. Metal is very dificult for them.

  • My apartment has been attacked by fleas for past three months. Couldn't sleep at all. Nothing could kill them until i saw this video. I sprinkled the fine powder all over my apartment and it is working. It seems that 80% of the fleas are gone. I will continue using this method and hopefully they are all killed in few more days. Thank you very much for your wonderful method!

  • @iheddy

Thanks iheddy for your input. I know what it is like to have fleas in the house. They jump up onto your legs as you walk by and bite you. It is as bad a nightmare as having bedbugs. I am happy to hear you are getting your problem under control. Thanks for your nice comment.

  • @jackcarpentersax how do you crush the silica cat litter to a fine powder ? is there any machine ?

  • You can use a food processor or coffee grinder or just pound it with a hammer.

  • help i have bed bugs can this help, seriously had spent about 1K in two days

  • This is all you need. Just be sure the silica gel cat litter is crushed to a fine fine powder.

  • I have ground it up into a fine powder and tried it. Does it kill them? Yes. But it doesn't kill them instantly which means if they are on their way to bite you....before they, die, they WILL. This needs to be used in conjunction with other things. Don't be fooled into thinking you just sprinkle a little around and ur problems just go away. NOT THAT SIMPLE.

  • It takes time but it really is that simple.

  • Silica cat litter really works =) I was skeptical but i tested it by putting 1 bed bug in a container and put just a little bit of powder beside the bug and made the bug walk through the tiny bit of cat litter then i took out the bug and put it in a bowl with some paper towel so they can crawl comfortably then i found more bed bugs and put them in the bowl with a little pinch of cat litter. Then i fell asleep, they were all dead and dehydrated looking when i woke up. A little goes a long way.

You are a great scientist and believer

    More power to you.

  • Boric Acid Powder Boric Acid Powder Boric Acid Powder Boric Acid Powder Boric Acid Powder Boric Acid Powder Boric Acid Powder Boric Acid Powder

  • @EGMAG

Boric acid is good for fighting insects but it is not a good thing to be putting on your mattress. Silica gel powder can be put on your mattress since it is harmless and used for cats.

  • is silica dangerous to humans

  • @metaboo08

The form of silica in the cat litter is safe for the cats and it is a food ingredient.

  • diatomaceous earth is very good, but DO NOT get the kind that is heat treated (for pool filters), it increases the silica crystilline content and changes it completely from the "food grade" dio.earth. Food grade diatomaceous earth is the type you'd want, but either way, you still should wear a mask when applying any of this stuff.

PS...heat treated, pool filter dio-earth can be deadly if taken internally, but food grade is harmless. That's how much the heat treatment changes it.

  • @lavatube11

You are right but if you say food grade D.E. is "harmless" then you should not need a mask, Ever. Don't worry about breathing silica gel powder or food grade diatomaceous earth. They are already ingredients in insect products for application to mattresses.

  • Silica Gel Cat Litter

Silica gel is an amorphous form of SiO2 and it has a porous molecular structure that closely resembles a sponge, and thus has super capacity for moisture adsorption.

  • @justintime36294

Thanks for doing the research for that one.

For all you people UNAWARE silica gel that silica gel is AMORPHOUS and not crystalline.

  • Silica Gel Cat Litter

Silica gel is an amorphous form of SiO2 and it has a porous molecular structure that closely resembles a sponge, and thus has super capacity for moisture adsorption. It is crystalline and colorfully bright in appearance and safe for domestic use.

Silica gel is an amorphous form of SiO2 and it has a porous molecular structure that closely resembles a sponge, and thus has super capacity for moisture adsorption. It is crystalline and colorfully bright in appearance and safe for domestic use. Silica gel based cat litter is a revolutionarily new product that will deliver an exciting and completely innovative solution in cat litter.

  • Is it possible to get silica gel cat litter that isn't scented or dyed?

  • @retread01

Just use what you can find. You won't need it for long. Check all the big pet stores and you should be able to find a scent free product. I think the dye is an indicator of the humidity/water level for when you use it for the cats to pee on.

  • Silica Gel IS amorphous however it can still cause lung problems if exposed to dust for prolonged period of time. It can cause dusty lungs. Its NOT crystalline! Keep in mind this man never said he's Dr. he merely shared what he did to rid his home of BedBugs. Use precautions when grinding & placing in desired area wear a mask eliminate ALL drafts, leave home for the afternoon to allow the dust to settle. use hepa filtered vacuum on carpet in areas walked on, & then vacuum rest when bugs r gone

  • i can find this silica gel anywhere.

  • Try at the big pet supply stores.

You should be able to find diatomaceous earth insect powder at hardware stores, it is basically the "same" thing.

  • Inhaling finely divided crystalline silica dust in very small quantities (OSHA allows 0.1 mg/m3) over time can lead to silicosis, bronchitis, or (much more rarely) cancer, as the dust becomes lodged in the lungs and continuously irritates them, reducing lung capacities. (Silica does not dissolve over time.) This effect can be an occupational hazard for people working with sandblasting equipment, products that contain powdered crystalline silica and so on. Children

  • Sorry but silica gel cat litter is NOT crystalline silica it is amorphous silica. Please know what you are talking about before making uneducated comments.

  • WARNING..... please google SILICOSIS before you try this "home remedy". Crushing cat litter can expose you to LUNG DAMAGE. Please read before exposing children or pets to this!!! There is a safer alternative called cedarcide.

  • Cat litter is not crystaline. it is amorphous.

Do your research before making stupid comments about things you don't understand.

If it is good for the cat then it is good for you too.

  • @riskyrook silicosis is caused from prolonged exposure to crystalline silica NOT Amorphous silica which is what silica gel is made of. HOWEVER prolonged exposure to amorphous or silica gel particles in the air can cause dusty lungs!

WARNING: when using anything other than directed or intended do some research and familiarize yourself with all the hazards!!

  • several questions if i may I have been fighting bed bugs for 2 yrs now help:

    1. After applying it can my two babies sleep in the room or leave the babies out?

    2. This can be used ON your bed or just on the floor?

    3. Can i use the powder lightly on electronics?

Thank u if u can answer that for me as soon as possible i would appreciate it. :)

  • The powder is harmless. Think about it, they use it for cats so it is harmless. You can use it on the bed no problem. It won't cause any long term lung problems. The babies can sleep in the same room no problem. Use it anywhere. Just avoid getting it on your CD's and DVD's because it can scratch them and keep it away from your DVD drives.

  • i found that dry mix plaster does the trick..or go really old skool and get fuk loads of lizards..bed bugs are a treat for them..

  • The lizards must be mad. Those bedbugs stink like crazy. The method sounds good. Dry mix plaster. I will keep that in mind and try it sometime. Thanks for the great tip.

  • I think most people would agree asbestos is faily safe in sheet form but if you put it in a blender would it still be safe?

  • we are discussing something they use for cats

    it is harmless

  • Have you not heard of silicosis?

  • Silica gel cat litter doesn't cause silicosis. If it did, would they use it for cats? Do your research and leave you "lack-of-knowledge" comments somewhere else.

Silica gel is a food ingredient.

  • @jackcarpentersax Silica gel cat litter doesn't cause silicosis, might be true if it stays in it's original form but if you powder it in a blender like you surgest it will cause silicosis. You do you research.

  • Try a pet store. The larger ones should carry it.

  • Respond to this video...were do i buy silica jel cat liter

  • don't do this it doesn't work we tried it and it is dangerous to your lungs and irritates your skin if you want to try this wear gloves and masks but i've talked to others who tried this like us and it doesn't work...........coming from someone whose tried it

  • If it doesn't work then why did the the person just below (optionallyyours) say it "Worked very well"?

It is not dangerous to your lungs. Silica gel is in foods like cereal and Nestea Iced tea mix powder. Are you going to wear gloves and a respirator when you pour your cereal or make a glass of iced tea. You are wrong. It is not dangerous and it is a food ingredient.

  • Worked very well! One application worked well in my bedroom. No more bugs! 2 small butter containers worked for me. Thank you!!!

  • Spread the word. Glad it worked for you. Night night sleep tight don't let the bedbugs bite, and live to tell the tale. Haha. Good for you.

  • Omg I used this stuff and they were gone within 2days. People this stuff is the truth it works no gimick!!

  • Thanks for your trust. I am so glad you are happy with it. Thanks for my first "Omg".

  • Thanks for the good review. I am so glad it helped you.

  • I have a question. A flat 2 flrs. above me was just found to be infested with bedbugs. They left their mattress & bagged bed linens out in the hallway for several hours until it was carted away. I want to put this stuff around my ceiling (I wish it really was a gel) to prevent. I've already got boric acid around all the wood work & in the kitchen cabinets (everything I use from there has to be rinsed off first). Do you have any suggestions; should I replace the boric acid with silica gel?

  • Leave your boric acid in the kitchen it is good for cockroaches, if you have them. However in your sleeping areas use silica gel powder. It is non-toxic, harmless and is a food ingredient. The dust is harmless and non crystaline so it won't cause silicosis as some believe. The boric acid may be useless for bedbugs since it must be eaten and bedbugs don't eat anything but BLOOD. Cockroaches eat it and anyway the bedbugs don't linger in your kitchen there is nothing there of interest to them.

  • Thanks. (The people in my building who use an exterminator have roaches; I've got to continue using the powder.) I've also discovered two other grades of silica that are non-toxic, diatomaceous earth comes in pool grade & food grade. Diatomaceous earth, I've discovered, is equally effective on roaches & I may just eventually switch to all Diatomaceous earth because it does not become deactivated by water as does boric acid.

  • The pool grade diatomaceous earth is a crystalline form and can cause silicosis. Don't use it for the bedbugs or roaches. They heat and it melts and becomes partially crystalline. The diatomaceous earth is great for the bedbugs but I am not sure about for the cockroaches. I used a little in my kitchen and it didn't seem to work too well. I didn't really try to use the DE too much in the kitchen for the roaches but I should give it a better try to see if it will work.

  • Diatomaceous earth is composed of 86% silica, 5% sodium, 3% magnesium, 2% iron; it contains no quartz. Silica dioxide sand (the ingredient in crystal cat litters) contains quartz & is also a group 3 carcinogen if inhaled. But both of them are carcinogenic if inhaled in sufficient quantities, quartz or no quartz. I've been checking reports from Penn. State Univ., U.C. @ Davis & Cornell Univ. & they have all said that diatomaceous earth kills both roaches & bed bugs.

  • You don't know what you are talking about.

Sorry but diatomaceous earth can be eaten. People eat it every day. Sorry but I don't think it contains quartz. Quartz is crystaline silicon dioxide but diatomaceous earth contains amorphous silica. They feed it to farm animals and people eat it every day. If it is harmful then why do people buy it at Home Depot as insect powder and then put it on their mattress. Your facts are not right. Silica gel is not sand. It is manmade and contains NO quartz.

  • Diatomaceous earth can be eaten, it is only a carcinogen if inhaled. Ingesting something in small quantities & inhaling it in large ones, are 2 quite different things & effect the body differently. Look at your statement just before mine; first you say "diatomaceous earth can cause silicosis", "don't use it for bed bugs or roaches". Then you say, "Diatomaceous earth is great for bed bugs". I'll stick with the info from university entomologists. Thanks anyway for the info on easily found sources.

  • Pool grade diatomaceous earth and food grade are two completely different things. Pool grade is partially melted and the crystal structure becomes crystaline. I is manipulated DE and not natural. Food grade is harmless because it is a totally different thing. It is amorphous, meaning it has an irregular crystal structure. If it were harmful people would not eat it. Just because something has silicon dioxide in it does not mean it is quartz. Silicon dioxide has different structures.

  • @jackcarpentersax Diatomaceous Earth is commonly used as a drug to deworm pets and humans. exposure to dust particles for long period of time can cause lung probs. u can buy cyanide & it can kill u, saying u can buy it's not harmful is prob what's irritating these people most. I'm considering trying it, I have done my research and I do know the hazards. Bottom line people, research and find out the hazards in anything you use, hell, pinesol is hazardous but most people have it in there cabinets!

  • Isn't the Drione dust the same thing? (An exterminator told me that boric acid didn't work on roaches either. But I've been using boric acid for 26 years & have no roaches while my neighbors still do. If exterminators actually killed roaches, they'd be out of business in a NY minute.) Hopefully you are only using the silica powder in cracks & areas where there isn't a lot of disturbance, as with boric acid, so it shouldn't be flying around the place.

  • bed bugs..

funny, we had virtually eliminated them at one point..2 maybe 3 generations of humans thought they were a bed time fairy tale...

alas, many unintended consequences in the environmental movement.

  • The key word is "virtually". I'm sure God designed them to play an important role. But unfortunately for them they started messin with the wrong species. They got talent, but then again so do we, thank God. If we really wanted to wipe them out no problem. I'm sure we got enough nukes to do it.

  • do u have to sleep in the room u spread the powder around to bait them out? i made the powder and put it in alot of key places in my room but i havent seen any dead bed bugs around. but i haven't been sleeping in it.

  • Of course you have to sleep in the room that you put the powder in. YOU are what ensures that the bedbugs come to your room. When they come to your room they will gel the powder on them. Bedbugs with the powder on them don't die till hours later. They won't die immediately. They will crawl off and die in their hiding places from dehydration. Thanks be to God.

  • yeah i did it i kil many of bed bug i grind the silica crystal and i did it alraedy this work for me thank you

  • Thanks for trusting me. I am glad it worked for you.

Bedbugs can't become resistant to silica gel powder so it will always work. It also works for many other crawling insects. Thanks.

  • i bought the crystal silica that you sent me the link but i put the crystal in the glass in i put the bed bugs inside after 8 hour continue living inside the glass i told you i want to buy the crystal same you used this crystal that i used is no good dont kill bed bugs after 12 hour continue living the bed bugs i put a lot of crystal inside the glass and nothing continue living the bed bugs what happen

  • i bought the crystal silica gel that you sent me the link and i put in a glass cup one bed bug inside and i put the crystal silica cat and after i put the bed bug and after 8 hour the bed bugs continue living inside the glass the dont kill the bed bug are 10 hour and continue living inside the glass i tink the crystal is no good or what happen i told you i want you buy the silica crystal same you bought you said only in 2 hour kill but is 12 hour and nothing kill

  • thankx, yeh it's kinda time consuming when I have cats that go from room to room. I have seen a bed bug drop off 1 of the them. So basically when I vacuum one room I have to do the whole apt.

Thankx again....because of ur video's I have gotten rid of the bugs. Now just to keep them away.

    Cheers!

  • Thanks for your comment. Glad you won the battle. I am sure your cats appreciate it too. Lucky for you that silica gel cat litter also kills bedbugs. Unfortunately for me I don't have cats but I still have practically ta whole container of silica gel cat litter that I have no use for.

  • how long does it take to dehydrate & kill the bugs?

I heard 2 hrs. ...what do u think?

    thanks

  • Yes, once bedbugs get silica gel powder, or some other insect powder on them it may take only a couple of hours to dehydrate them. The real issue with bedbugs is that they don't need to feed every day and they may be feeding in another bedroom that has no silica gel powder or other defense. If they feed and reproduce in another room that has no defenses they may keep coming into your room. The ones that enter your room are DOOMED but there are others that will come from the undefended room.

  • Jack, please remove this video. I have done what you recommened and left the silica gel in my room and around my bed. Couple of weeks later I am coughing pretty and it seems that i am have symptoms of silicosis as I breathed large amound ot dust.

My advice to everyone here is that the fear that I am having now for my life from acute silicosis can't compared to bedbug bites. You can get steamer and vacuum cleaner that will do the job for you.

  • I think you just have the flu. Amorphous silica gel cat litter would not cause silicosis. If it did do you think they would use it as cat litter?

  • Jack I will likely retract my recommendation for silica powder. Sounds very dangerous to use. Cat litter is large crystals not a fine powder.

Because silicosis is progressive, signs of it may not appear until years after exposure.

  • Silica gel is amorphous and not crystaline so it is harmless. It is a food ingredient. Besides, they use it for the cat litter so it harmless.

  • Warning!!! Nearly all crystal cat litter contains Quartz which is crystalline silica. Data on these brands can be found on National Institutes of Health website.

DO NOT USE CRYSTAL CAT LITTER ON ANYTHING THAT YOU WILL CONTACT OR AGITATE. WEAR PARTICLE MASK WHEN HANDLING.

  • There is no quartz in silica gel. You have no idea what you are talking about. Please do your research before posting false comments. They put silica gel in food and use it for the cats. If you drink Nestea Iced tea mix then you are ingesting silicon dioxide it is one of the ingredients.

  • Besides quartz it rock hard like sand. You would have a hard time turning it into powder. But silica gel is very soft by comparison because it contains NO QUARTZ.

  • where do i put this powder?

  • Scary. You didn't feel any symptoms until 2 weeks later?

  • I have seen it in many pet stores in Toronto. I have seen it in a pet store in Fairview mall at Sheppard and Don Mill's in Toronto but they stuff they have is yellow but it is silica gel cat litter.

I have also seen it at Pet Smart at Eglington and Laird in Toronto. I'm glad you have it.

  • Comment removed

  • where can I buy this cat litter in toronto?

  • Hi there,

Can you please let me know where to buy this kind of cat litter that you have in your video?

  • The kind I bought is sold at Pet Value in Toronto.

Go to one of the big box pet stores or maybe any pet store and they should carry it. The grocery store, Walmart or the other regular big box stores may not carry the silica gel cat litter. It is cat litter but it looks almost like road salt. Sometimes it has blue and clear pieces and I have even seen it in a slight shade of yellow.

  • thank you so much, I bought the cat litter from the Canadian Superstore and it is now all over my house. I will start with my coach tomorrow.

  • just be sure to grind the silica gel cat litter to to a fine, fine powder. Thanks for trusting me.

  • I only saw 4 or 5 in my room. I was the one who realized they were bedbugs. The person next door had thousands. Your 4 or 5 could be just the tip of the iceberg. Powder the basement but keep in mind they are BEDbugs and not basement bugs so focus your efforts on your bedrooms. They may run around your basement or anywhere in your house but they will eventually head for beds and the sleeping people to suck their tasty blood.

  • i took your advice and bought silica gel cat litter, crushed it to powder and spread it along my couch two days ago haven't seen a bed bug since so far lol, when is a good time to vacuum it up?

  • Vacuum it up when you are absolutely sure ALL THE bedbugs are gone. That will be when you don't see them crawling everywhere and when the lines of bites 100% stop. That could take weeks or even a month. It all depends on your situation. Thanks for trusting me.

  • well i haven't seen em since i sprayed the silica powder which was two or three days ago, also it wasnt that big of an infestation i only saw 4 or 5 after that i sprayed every thing and it happened in my basement so should i place the powder all across my basement to permanently get rid of them?

  • Thanks for the info! I got the Fresh Step Crystals kind. It's blue and even says on the back of the bag "contains silica gel". Grinding it now, will spread it around tonight!

  • Thanks for trusting me. Keep us informed on your progress. Be sure to turn it into a fine, fine powder. Happy killing, Bedbugs, that is.

  • Hey man, I am in the process of using this cat litter method and documenting every step so I can post a similar video.

One test I did was to capture a bedbug and put it in a tupperware container overnight with a few pinches of the powder. Dead by morning! Then I put one in the container without any powder--still alive the next day. So the powder works! They flip on their back and writhe their legs in pain.

I've done it for one week now, still finding some. Let's give it one more week. Thx!

  • Thanks for the vote of confidence. If you make videos be sure to give me some credit. I can refer people to your videos and vice versa.

I think the bedbugs end up on their back while they try to climb up the container wall. I think they just have trouble righting themselves and it is not pain. In the container as soon as one of its buddies comes along it grabs hold of him and uses him as leverage to right himself.

  • hey man, I was getting all sorts of bites and had no idea it was bed bugs, but low and behold I found one on my bed the other day (wanted to kill myself). I cleaned my room, vacuumed, etc. Found 4 more, killed them. Today, I bought some cat litter containing silica gel and grinded it into a fine powder (great workout for my forearms) and spread it all over as well as spraying bed bug spray all over my room. Hope that is the end of these f'n little buggers!

  • Thanks for trusting me. It will work but it will take a couple of weeks to kill them all. Just keep sprinkling a little everyday to keep it fresh because of settling dust. Sprinkle your room like crazy the more the better but don't go too crazy with it. A layer a half millimeter deep will do it. It will not look great but that's the price you have to pay to exterminate them. You can also sprinkle the halls and bathrooms in the bedroom areas because the bedbugs do wander all over the house.

  • Silica gel cat litter is amorphous. It is harmless. Crystaline silica is what is harmful. The cat litter powder is harmless to breath and is even a food ingredient in Nestea Iced Tea mix and many other foods. You really need to do your research properly before posting. Silica Gel Powder is harmless because it is not the crystaline form. Besides it is one of the main ingredients in most of the bedbug powders you buy in the store. The other main ingredient used is diatomaceous earth.

  • Yes, I know, cause three appartments had it probably two weeks ago, and i have jsut one bite so far, i powdered again, i hate my room but i am sure powder works. thanks.

  • The powder is a nightmare too but bedbugs crawling on you while you visit friends is the ultimate nightmare. Get the people in your building to all work together. The silica gel cat litter is very cheap and a large bag goes a long way and can treat many apartments. Just be sure it is ground very very fine.

  • Jack, do you know and have experiences with powdering in humid weather??? it is comming to be humid in NYC, I wander whether it affects the powder effectiveness.

  • I don't think it will affect the powder. The powder after all is like crushed stone. It is like glass to the bedbugs and cuts them. Glass is not affected by moisture and neither is the powder. If it gets damp the water will just evaporate. That is how it works as cat litter. The cats pee and then the water in the pee evaporates slowly from the silica gel. It will evaporate even faster from the powder because the powder has a much larger surface area.

  • i see, cause it turned to little balls but when i touch it it still is dry and like chalk. they closed part of lenox hospital in new york as it was infested, asked staff to stay at home, hired dog, who identified 2/3 of appartment and houses infested, all those nice mensions... crazy

  • Bedbugs suck the blood of the rich and the poor. No we know all people are truly equal. Insects can be controlled in the house apt or condo but a person has to do a little research and spend a little money. It is always cheaper and more effective when you can do it yourself.

  • Have you heard anything about diatomaceous earth? What brand of cat litter has the gel in it? They dont list the ingrediants.

  • Most cat litter has bentonite, I think.

Any cat litter that says gel or crystal and looks like rock salt has silica gel. Diatomaceous earth is the majority ingredient in most insect powders. It is just a form of silicon dioxide, as is silica gel.

  • Jack I have another question please, I powdered with sock, it was cloud of dust, EVERYWHERE, after two weeks I believe i have bite on my arm, and i am sure it is them, how it is possible, I did around legs, can they actually get to me and climb the legs of the bed and bite me? i have clean matrace , will check today, it is powdered with sock as well as well as head board, i am getting crazy, though bldg had them i saw yesterday THIRD dotted matrace outside of the blgd, waiting for sanitary car

  • You have to put a fairly thick layer of fine fine powder everywhere (about a quarter to half a millimeter) Bedbugs can be difficult to eliminate because you live in a building. All the tenants must put powder at the same time. The spread from apt. to apt. Trust me without the powder your problem would be worse. They can climb the legs of the bed or drop from the ceiling (they climb easily on the wall.)

  • do you think, it will treat also fleas?

  • ive read stories that these insect bite some people but not others. Does anyone know why?

  • do a GOOGLE for Bed Bug Powder

I also made a video at the top of this page

    under my name

    stuff worked and was cheap

  • Don't be so quick you have to crush the silica gel cat litter to a fine powder. It takes some time to crush silica gel but it will work. It is not toxic so you can go crazy with the FINE POWDER you make. If you are limited on time you may be better off buying the insect dusts from Home Depot. Eggs they are too small and you won't find them all. Finding 3 adult bedbugs means there are more.If you live in a building you have to work with all your neighbors to get rid of them.Any questions?Ask me.

  • well exactly how did you crush the stuff into a fine powder? and i like an condominiums with ghetto neighbors who probably wouldn't care about bed bugs, does this mean that i wont be able to get rid of them? i honestly think they came from there also, because i dont travel and haven't brought anything in my apt!

how long after you laid the dust, did it take for the bites to stop? i am the only one bitten. they dont ever bite my husband..just me. maybe 5-10 new bites a day.

  • See my other video about Mortar and Pestle. If they came from another apartment it would be best to get everyone involved. The bedbugs do move around but tend to stay around one person. You will be able to get rid of all the ones in your condo but you will have to leave dust scattered at all times in case new ones arrived. The powder works as long as it is there and not covered in too much dust. We got rid of them in a couple of weeks. The powder kills them in hours. They will eventually bite him.

  • If you do nothing your problem will escalate exponentially. Just be sure there is powder at all times kill any bedbugs that enter your condo.

  • im going to try this IMMEDIATELY! thank goodness i have only found 3 bed bugs, after further investigation of the mattress! well about 20 eggs to with the 3 though. im going to pour this stuff everywhere!

    thanks for posting
