@gerryhiles I've already read The Republic. I've honestly read better books on that issue. There are even better criticisms of democracy than Plato's.
"We have a one-party State with two somewhat different factions with a lot of overlap: the business party has a couple of factions."
"Do you want to live in the society we have? which, remember, is not a democratic society and is not intended to be."
"If you take a course in political theory here I'm sure they'll teach you that the United States is not a democracy. It's what's called in the technical literature, a polyarchy."
I agree . When i first heard it , i immediately realized how profound and how an accurate description of politics in general (Not just the us) it was.
Read the criticism of 'democracy'. Read the Cave Analogy.
These will blow your mind, if you are in the least bit open minded.
"Know Thyself". Ponder that ... THINK.
"The unexamined life is not worth living." Ponder that.

Best man ... perhaps since Socrates, though I will always prefer Socrates/Plato over late-comers to understanding the human condition.

this is one of my favorite chomsky moments:

"Do you want to live in the society we have? which, remember, is not a democratic society and is not intended to be."
"If you take a course in political theory here I'm sure they'll teach you that the United States is not a democracy. It's what's called in the technical literature, a polyarchy."
Immortal Chomsky
