Two early rock genius' Bo and Buddy - there's another collaboration that would've been wonderful had Buddy lived. This may have been released in 1963, but it most likely was recorded around 1957.
@JAGibson3 You're absolutely right: From wikipedia: "Buddy Holly on vocals/guitar and Jerry Allison on drums recorded "Bo Diddley" at one of their earliest sessions with producer/engineer Norman Petty at his recording studio in Clovis, New Mexico sometime in 1956. In 1962 Norman Petty overdubbed the demo of "Bo Diddley", as well as others, with the Fireballs"
I am pretty sure this is one of the most refreshing song i have heard in the last ten years, such a load of dribble out there these days, people have forgotten what real music is, always loved buddy since i was a kid. Buddy your a legend.
How can something recorded 55 years ago sound so fresh & vibrant? It sounds better than most music of the past 10 years (and this isn't some old rock & roller talking, I love many different styles of music)
Yeah, dude. Do your research into Buddy Holly first. For several years after Buddy Holy died, unreleased recordings of his got their release (some were overdubbed, some even charted).
What do you mean - Buddy Holly 1963??? Do you mean the video was put together in 1963? Buddy Holly died February 3, 1959 in the plane crash with the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens.
Buddy recorded Bo Diddley shortly before his death. The producers didn't release the song until 1963, where it went to #4 on the UK charts and spent a total of 12 weeks on the charts, had Buddy not died, the song would have been released around 1960 and would have probably gone Gold in a week. But the #4 in 1963 just proves how far Buddy was ahead of his time with his style.
@austenbosten Buddy recorded "Bo Diddley" in late '55 at Norman Petty's Studios. Only a rough acetate survived. Frankly, this is one of the few good overdubs that was ever done, as they turned a rough sounding acetate into a smooth, polished record. There is also a version of Diddley's "Mona" that Holly abandoned.
Did the poster do the video effects? Really, really good. I've been listening to all the Bo Diddley I could find recently, but this is really special... Thx
one has to wonder what buddy holly and ritche valens wouldve become had they not died. they were in there 20's and late teens. its a shame. they may have passed elvis or it wouldve made elvis's manager keep elvis out of hollywood and keep doing real rock records to keep up with them. by time levis left the army there was no one to challange him and he got into hollywood and wasted years away while the beatles and others took over
@mofoca22 Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens were legends, no doubt about it. However, I don't believe they would've surpassed Elvis. Elvis had more going for him besides playing the guitar. Elvis was the whole package. Not every singer can convert to acting. Elvis was a great actor. "Love Me Tender." To me, an academy award winning performance.
@CheckMate657879 yeah i know but as far as rock music they wouldve surpassed him without a doubt. ritchie valens wouldve anyways. i think buddy holly was already phasing out at the time of his death which is why he was performing in the dead of winter to begin with because he was pretty broke and needed to get out there to keep his music out there till he could muster up another hit song. he was always trying to top peggy sue and everyday and wasnt ever able to do so
@mofoca22 Nyeah... Buddy wouldn't be as famous as he is if it wasn't for his tragic death, he's easily my favorite musician though.
Buddy wasn't broke, but his band and he had broken up since he wanted to live in NYC and they wanted to go back to Lubbock, there was some trouble with the payment for his songs, so he had to go back on tour again which he didn't want to.
Ritchie Valens could've gotten pretty big, Big Bopper was planning on making the first music videos.
Originally recorded in his apartment in December 1958 without any background music. This is one of the overdubbed versions released after his death. Good one too I must admit.
Buddy Holly recorded so much material that new stuff was able to be released 10 years after his death. There was a lot of overdubbing done on most of it.
@jonquil4000 simplicity is not what music lacks today. It lacks musical direction. Also I bet you are judging the mainstream music of today, underground and alternative music today is still great
Thanks for posting this, one of the most amazing things I've ever heard. He took all of Bo Diddley's licks (and his famous bit) and ordered them in a great 'Pop' song, while putting on it his own umistakable mark. As far as arrangements, sound, songwriting, etc.. Buddy Holly was the most innovative of the 50s Rock&Roll pioneers, really opening the way for The Beatles, Brian Wilson, etc.. and this song proves it... Pure genius
I have been looking for this one..in the 70's i was lucky enough to go to norm petty's studio in Clovis, NM and hear the rough demo of this....just buddy and his guitar was the only thing on the tape and he ran it by 3 or 4 times...very haunting that version was....i heard alot of music history that day....but Bo Diddley really stuck out....and yes i like the finished version...thanks for the post

That's actually George Tomsco of the Fireballs on guitar. Holly's own guitar is pretty much drowned out by the overdub.
