When i come on you tube and hear buddy sing it brings back all the best memories! Thank u you tube (and the 1 who posted this song!!!) LOVE AND MISS U MUR THAN ANY 1 COULD FINK DAD ALWAYS IN MY THOUGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XXXXX

  • Two early rock genius' Bo and Buddy - there's another collaboration that would've been wonderful had Buddy lived. This may have been released in 1963, but it most likely was recorded around 1957.

  • That's actually George Tomsco of the Fireballs on guitar. Holly's own guitar is pretty much drowned out by the overdub.

  • @JAGibson3 You're absolutely right: From wikipedia: "Buddy Holly on vocals/guitar and Jerry Allison on drums recorded "Bo Diddley" at one of their earliest sessions with producer/engineer Norman Petty at his recording studio in Clovis, New Mexico sometime in 1956. In 1962 Norman Petty overdubbed the demo of "Bo Diddley", as well as others, with the Fireballs"

  • it makes me so sad to know that a wonderfull person with a innocense vibe, died in a very brutal an horrific death, he doesnt deserve that

  • love the music for this one , makes me feel like dancing.

  • Man Holly was the shit!

  • Gota love that Bo Diddley beat!

  • Happy birthday, Buddy.

  • cant be 1963 buddy holly died in 50 something in a plane crash

  • @vietnamguy1223 Alot of Holly's music was released after his death.

  • @bladesmark1 but still it was made in the 50's so it shouldnt be 63'

  • Wait, I think I got it. "I Want Candy." Bow Wow Wow.

I feel much better now lol.

  • OMG what does that guitar sound like? I know I've heard it before! Anyone??

  • Cant believe that three people dont like this song, omg they must be from the planet Zog!

  • A tragic end to such a short life, but his influence is still relevant today. Even 52 years later.

  • I am pretty sure this is one of the most refreshing song i have heard in the last ten years, such a load of dribble out there these days, people have forgotten what real music is, always loved buddy since i was a kid. Buddy your a legend.

  • Brilliant!!!

  • Maybe the poster should specify the recording AND release dates in the title so people will stop dwelling on the posthumous release issue.

  • who are the 3 f..ktards that are NOT shaking their azz's while listening.?

  • An American icon! ....we'll never know what could have been, or should have been, F#&% the beatles

  • @TheDiddlysquat Okay - Thanks.

  • How can something recorded 55 years ago sound so fresh & vibrant? It sounds better than most music of the past 10 years (and this isn't some old rock & roller talking, I love many different styles of music)

  • @RetroCool73 Maybe because Buddy Holly always was looking for something new. Then try to reproduce and record it. He loved recording-techniques.

  • I'm pretty sure Buddy Holly re-did this song in '57.. I'm pretty sure his plane crashed in '59..

  • @SaLLySaL86

I'm pretty sure that this version was released in 1963.

  • @deklusjesman Yes, it was released rather posthumously...

  • @deklusjesman I'm pretty sure this song makes my ear nipples hard

  • @SaLLySaL86: Buddy's version wasn't RELEASED until '63.

  • @SaLLySaL86

Yeah, dude. Do your research into Buddy Holly first. For several years after Buddy Holy died, unreleased recordings of his got their release (some were overdubbed, some even charted).

  • @TheDiddlysquat

    It's 'Oh boy' backwards.

  • He was gone before my time.

  • What do you mean - Buddy Holly 1963??? Do you mean the video was put together in 1963? Buddy Holly died February 3, 1959 in the plane crash with the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens.

  • I f Holly recorded this in '55, then when did diddley record the original?

  • Remember my 15 years buddy..... the best

  • Fantastic. Great tune by a graeat singer. Video works really well with it. Modern

  • love that chuggin rythym.

rock used to make you wanna dance, now its headbanging and posturing and makeup.all image, very little groove.

    bring back true rock-n-roll.

  • @3lullabies agreed, and im 18!

  • The good die young!

  • Bloody superb. thanks.KEN.G (UK)

  • this video is more addictive than heroin.....utterley superb.

great to hear the one and only BUDDY HOLLY

  • this song is driving me insane

  • Buddy recorded Bo Diddley shortly before his death. The producers didn't release the song until 1963, where it went to #4 on the UK charts and spent a total of 12 weeks on the charts, had Buddy not died, the song would have been released around 1960 and would have probably gone Gold in a week. But the #4 in 1963 just proves how far Buddy was ahead of his time with his style.

  • @austenbosten Oh cheers dude. Wondering why it say '63 on the video.

  • @austenbosten Buddy recorded "Bo Diddley" in late '55 at Norman Petty's Studios. Only a rough acetate survived. Frankly, this is one of the few good overdubs that was ever done, as they turned a rough sounding acetate into a smooth, polished record. There is also a version of Diddley's "Mona" that Holly abandoned.

  • Did the poster do the video effects? Really, really good. I've been listening to all the Bo Diddley I could find recently, but this is really special... Thx

  • amazing

  • sorry man, but buddy holly died February 3, 1959. but i like the song anyways and thanks for posting!!!!

  • @nolaw03 That's right.

I was planning to see him at the Val Air Ballroom in Des Moines IA

    Unfortunately he never made it.

    Great cover RIP Buddy

  • Great tune how is it from 63 if he died in 59 though??

  • E na @CASSAROLAqToKa do @ChefPauloPecora, Tá Rolando Buddy Holly

  • Impressive video!!

  • I love the song, and I love the vid! :P

  • how can this be performed in 1963 if Buddy Holly died in 1959

  • @InstantKarma909 He recorded it before his death, but was released after his death.

  • one has to wonder what buddy holly and ritche valens wouldve become had they not died. they were in there 20's and late teens. its a shame. they may have passed elvis or it wouldve made elvis's manager keep elvis out of hollywood and keep doing real rock records to keep up with them. by time levis left the army there was no one to challange him and he got into hollywood and wasted years away while the beatles and others took over

  • @mofoca22 Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens were legends, no doubt about it. However, I don't believe they would've surpassed Elvis. Elvis had more going for him besides playing the guitar. Elvis was the whole package. Not every singer can convert to acting. Elvis was a great actor. "Love Me Tender." To me, an academy award winning performance.

  • @CheckMate657879 yeah i know but as far as rock music they wouldve surpassed him without a doubt. ritchie valens wouldve anyways. i think buddy holly was already phasing out at the time of his death which is why he was performing in the dead of winter to begin with because he was pretty broke and needed to get out there to keep his music out there till he could muster up another hit song. he was always trying to top peggy sue and everyday and wasnt ever able to do so

  • @mofoca22 Buddy Holly was actually making a "come-back when he was killed. I don't think Elvis was ever any near anything called, "broke."

  • @mofoca22 Nyeah... Buddy wouldn't be as famous as he is if it wasn't for his tragic death, he's easily my favorite musician though.

Buddy wasn't broke, but his band and he had broken up since he wanted to live in NYC and they wanted to go back to Lubbock, there was some trouble with the payment for his songs, so he had to go back on tour again which he didn't want to.

Ritchie Valens could've gotten pretty big, Big Bopper was planning on making the first music videos.

  • This is one cool video. Great job! Love it.

RIP Buddy Holly - truly "gone too soon."

  • hmmm, classic. almost a precursor to house music. ace

  • Originally recorded in his apartment in December 1958 without any background music. This is one of the overdubbed versions released after his death. Good one too I must admit.

  • great

  • Buddy Holly still the best

  • Buddy is awsome!!!

  • Buddy Holly recorded so much material that new stuff was able to be released 10 years after his death. There was a lot of overdubbing done on most of it.

  • not as good as bo himself, but still a good cover

  • Comment removed

  • okay, and mine is that Bo Diddley's is better.

i didn't even refute your opinion so why bring that up?

  • that is rock roll the way it should be

  • If MTV was around back then, Buddy Holly would have done this video.

  • Comment removed

  • AWESOME

  • Why 1963, he died in 59?

  • this version was released in '63...the original buddy recording was in '56. all the guitar licks you hear is the fireballs overdubbed

  • only 1 thing, the title says 1963, wasnt the plane crash before that year? :o

  • thx for sharing

  • Cool! I never knew Buddy did a cover on Bo Diddley's song. Thanks for sharing!

  • he also did a cover of "Love is Strange" -- written by Bo using his wife's name as pseudonym

  • @ksbonneau yeah they all did if you know what i mean

  • @ksbonneau they all did if you know what i mean including the so called king of rock and roll elvis

  • awesome video to one of my fave buddy songs!

  • This is one of the few Oldies songs I never really liked, but you did a GREAT job with the video.

  • Superb video for a terrific version of a great song.

  • Fantastic stuff Buddy!

  • Miss you Buddy.

  • wow! awesome sound

  • This is pure rock and roll in my opinion. The lyrics were simple and the beat was catchy. This is what the music of today is missing.

  • I totally agree jonquil4000!

    RIP BUDDY HOLLY

  • @jonquil4000 simplicity is not what music lacks today. It lacks musical direction. Also I bet you are judging the mainstream music of today, underground and alternative music today is still great

  • @jonquil4000

    i AGREE

  • god god take me back to 1963 and hearing this blasting out of the jukebox in some of the pubs in exeter when i was a 19year old

  • cool video. great song.

  • whoooooooo buddy holly!!!!!!!!! get it. bo diddley's influence comes through!!!

  • Best Cover ever!!

  • awesome!

  • Omggg I Love this video Buddy Holly did a great job

  • Thanks for posting this, one of the most amazing things I've ever heard. He took all of Bo Diddley's licks (and his famous bit) and ordered them in a great 'Pop' song, while putting on it his own umistakable mark. As far as arrangements, sound, songwriting, etc.. Buddy Holly was the most innovative of the 50s Rock&Roll pioneers, really opening the way for The Beatles, Brian Wilson, etc.. and this song proves it... Pure genius

  • DANK JE ben tijden op zoek naar dit nummer!!!

  • I have been looking for this one..in the 70's i was lucky enough to go to norm petty's studio in Clovis, NM and hear the rough demo of this....just buddy and his guitar was the only thing on the tape and he ran it by 3 or 4 times...very haunting that version was....i heard alot of music history that day....but Bo Diddley really stuck out....and yes i like the finished version...thanks for the post

  • Hello,

that song came out in the 1960's.What you were hearing was stuff Norman had laying around.Like i said in another post,Buddy's mom and dad took all of Buddy's personal recordings to Norman.Norman redid them and released them.

  • Cool video!

  • how could it be 1963 when he died 1960,

just wondering , im not asking rudley

  • It was released after he died in 1963. His manager released alot of things post-death to capitialize on his notority.

  • he died 1959 not 1960..

  • ok, im still confused though, how could this be from 1963 then?

  • AndrewJboyer...the studio in clovis i speak of below had many many demos of buddy that were released after his death....i would say more than 50% of his music was released after feb. 1959

  • thanks

  • Veeery Nice!

  • great post nice work

  • haha love the way it multiplies.

  • Buddy Is The Master.. had he lived he would have blown this world apart with his music.. but when you think about it.. he did it anyways..
