  • Let us not forget our dear friend the cuttle fish

  • (to danimations80) I thought False Bay was already protected for ALL cephalopods? I'm not sure what the punishment is but it's pretty extreme. And could you get a bigger protection area? It's pretty much the whole area between eyre peninsula and yorke peninsula. But oh well, it's a pretty damn good cause.

  • Nicely observed and recorded! If you love cuttlefish, you should sign our petition to protect the world's largest known breeding aggregation of them in South Australia! Info and links on our channel :)

  • Aawh youre guys are scarring the poor thing

    Dislike

  • such beauty i just wanna 'cuttle' with it

  • Basically, in cuttlef-ish (see what I did there?) it's saying "all of you fuck off now".

Although it's still adorable like all cuddle-fish.

  • The humans are closing in on the cuttlefish like a pack of wild dogs. No wonder its scared shitless. Dislike.

  • Should I eat Cuttlefish and Asparagus or Vanilla Paste?

  • I thought so. How much damage could it actually do though? Big as it is it's still half the weight of either of those humans.

  • @XzoahX well the tentacles of cuttlefish, octopi, and squid are just pure muscles and once it has at least three arms on you it wont let go, or thats what i heard from my professor on a presentation

  • @XzoahX theres only one type of Cuttlefish that can really do any real damage to a human and their os small youd have to swallow one to have anything happen, the Flamboyant Cuttlefish, they dont usually ttry using their color-changing to HIDE, they use it to warn things their highly venomous, its of ocurse probably one of the smallest species of Cuttlefish, they could fit in the palm of your hand their so small

  • It's huge... but I wonder what that color means. I would guess that it's frightened and thus trying to look dangerous...

  • @XzoahX you see those 2 tentacles in the V-shape my friend? its telling you to get away or its going to attack you, its their defensive display, its how they say "Back the F off" to other animals

  • and asparagus?

  • i can buy a dozen of your babies for 99 cents.

  • this thing is huuuuge!

  • Which should I eat, Kyle? The cuttlefish and asparagus, or the vanilla paste?

  • You know what its thinking right?

    "ALL HAIL CTHULHU"

  • It's a sea Kung Fu master! Meditating and waiting for an attack! haha!

  • I like the shape of the cuttlefish's pupils, they always look like they are drowsy.

  • @ig88bc The "W" shaped pupils of a cuttlefish's eyes are actually due to convergent evolution. Cephalopod eyes evolved in parallel with the eyes that you and I have, and the structure of their eyes, although similar to our own, is completely different. Cephalopod eyes are superior to ours in many ways, featuring highly sensitive colour vision, no blind spots, and greater photosensitivity.

Just a bit of useless information for you, there. :P

  • @Kiltmaster "the structure of there eyes, although similar to our own, is completely different." ? So which one is it?

"The "W" shaped pupils of a cuttlefish's eyes are actually due to convergent evolution." Convergent with what? Ours? We don't have w shaped eyes. Convergent evolution is where two organisms evolve to look the same independently what dose that have to do with w shaped eyes?

  • Does cuddlefish go good on the bbq?

  • thumbs up if at 0:10 you though the cuttle fish blew those bubbles

  • dammmm he look really mad and pissed cuddle fish but so cute

  • that is one really pissed cuddle fish

  • 2 raised front tentacles = angry/scared, understandably I suppose.

  • It's scared because you have it surrounded. Freaking out nature is fun until it eats you! I don't think anyone's been attacked by a cuttlefish....but the internet knows...I'm going to find out...

  • Yeah I would leave that alone

  • How big do you suppose it would be, before it would consider a scuba diver a potential meal?

  • Wow! They're really interesting looking.

  • poke it...

  • I dont know why but i want to rub my cheek on it.

  • Why didn't it swim away? Does it wait to be attacked first?

And I thought they could camouflage. I guess it was trying to get eaten.

  • is it just me, or he looks stoned as hell

  • It looks like something from Pokemon. And i'm not saying that just to be funny, whether it is or isn't.

  • he looks like a lobster at the beginning. wit claws and everythim. this thing must be really smart!

  • Its about to go bat shit crazy!!!

  • The divers remind me of peeping toms.

  • i saw about 4 smaller ones like this is the usvi

  • that is'nt something i'd want to swim too close to.

  • This is the most beautiful sepia I have ever seen!!! I know probably his pose is meant to ward of potential enemies, but to me he soooo looks like he's posing for the camera, eyes closed and relaxed.... what a beauty!

  • the cuttlefish is sitting there going like "haters gonna hate"

  • ok this is bording

  • He should have drop kicked it.

  • Oh, it looks very solemn. (:

  • I have seen a real cuttle fish before and it is real. They change color to hide or stock there pray

  • Why are they called a fish? They're not really a fish, are they???!!! (Everyone notice how I used the correct form of they're (they are) above... just thought it deserved some attention since most don't get it right :-D ha!

  • @azgirl777 they are no fishs, its just the name.

  • @azgirl777 lol

  • A+ Video

  • wtf thats a fucking octipus

  • @DontXRunXOk .... wow look up cuttlefish on google images then look up octopus

  • Comment removed

  • dude that cuttlefish is ticked off, if you see that a cephalopod is red it means its pretty angry.

  • That colour is basically saying "touch me and you will all fucking die"

  • @lance03244 You sure? I think the cuttlefish just wants a cuddle. :3 *hugs it and dies*

  • I learned that that is a threat posture. I don't think he's imitating anything.

  • Is he imitating something or is he getting ready to snatch a fish when it comes by?

  • @squito94 i guess that its trying to immitate bright colors because it usually means bright colors = poisonous so dont eat me...for all i know the Flamboyant cuttlefish which is the smallest is the only poisonous one

  • its red because its blushing from all the attention XD

  • I catch and eat Cuttlefish (^,^) it's like octopus.

  • is he sleeping?

  • Incredible creature. Neat footage. Thanks for sharing!

  • The cuttlefish looked like it was praying. Great movie, Thanks for sharing.

  • food?

  • Amazing coulours and so cute !

  • @ezraharvey1 cuttelfish r awesome!!! I want one =(

  • @ezraharvey1 you know cuttle fish actually sometimes attack divers in Australia O.o

  • Cthulhu! : D

  • i'm pretty sure it's trying to look like a crab. octopus do it too.

  • That's one pissed off cuttle! Amazing coloration! Such a rich red.

  • @Hibaque Yes, buuut cuttelfish don't normally change color according to mood, but they DO do it sometimes!

  • Oh, he's not sleeping. I've seen a few cuttlefish do that, It might be a defensive posture or something? Also, I don't think they'd taste that wonderful... Or they'd be too chewy for me. I'm not a fan of squid and octopus as it is, but I wouldn't want to eat a cuttlefish. They're too intelligent, it'd be a waste.

  • adorable, beautyful and graceful! fantastic =]

  • that octopus is sleeping i thinkXD

  • who would eat a cuttlefish?

  • i think ites dead

  • it taste very good, i had cuttle fish risotto in Croatia and it was great :)

  • it looks like its sleeping

  • i wonder how they taste like....

  • they taste good.. grill it and put some spices inside.. try to grill it for few minutes at least 20 mins. per side, that way they are soft to eat and not chewy.

  • BEAUTIFUL! This is excellent footage. What a huge cuttlefish. It's so neat that you were able to get up close and personal like that. Cool! Thanks for sharing...

  • cuttle fishes are so fucking awesome and smart.

  • Woah, a red one? cool.

Can you get them as pets?

  • They can change colors. I think I've heard about people keeping them as pets, but they require a lot of maintenance, and don't live very long.

  • great footage

  • why is it just hanging there? usually they are pissed off at first and then get curious. But I guess you could hypothosize (can't spell, don't care) that they have distinct personalities, and thus reactions to things. Interesting little guy

  • Maybe it was sleeping?

  • lol he's giving you the peace sign but I know that all that means is that he sees you as the predator and wants you to go away lol still I love the color to him :)

  • It's blushing and thinking like "OMG *blushes* Is my hair alright?!"

  • don't get too close! you see he doesn't feel very comfortable

  • Cuttlefish have been known to make their way through a maze in science laboratories. scientists have studied cuttlefish intelligence and it has been proven that they can even distinguish different between different colors and puzzles.

  • red is elemental....

  • Awesome! I wonder what is it doing?

Why isn't it hiding away from you? Is it aware of your presence around? Seems that it had its eye closed... Do cuttlefishs sleep or something?

  • It is probably trying to scare the divers away. And it probably won't hide itself because he is smart enough to understand that the divers was no threat.

And last, the cuttlefish have a special type of eye that looks like an "W". I'm not quite sure why, but the cuttlefish has one of the best eye sights in the ocean. (I don't know if it can sleep, most fish don't.)

  • its cute

  • it almost looks like it likes attention.

  • Well I was there and so was my wife, Seen behind the cuttle fish, So yes it is real and yes it was there.

  • You're a moron. You haven't seen it before so it must be fake. You're a product of the openly ignorant age we live in.

  • actually i have it just doesnt look like the fish is actually there

  • Why bother to make a fake out of this? There are lots of images like this in docummentaries, and this is a home made video. I don´t think it´s fake...

  • well arent they good a camoflage why would it be bright red in the middle of a grey colored ocean

  • Cuttlefish only use their camouflage when necessary, like when it's hiding from predators or lying in wait for prey. This one not only wasn't hiding but is brightly colored, I wonder if it was mating season?

Depending on how frequently divers are in the area the cuttlefish may be accustomed to people and not see humans as a threat.

  • good point but look at how clear the fish looks compared to every one else

  • actually, cuttlefish can't see color, just texture and pattern. so they have no idea what color to turn, they just know about how dark or light they should be.

  • They aren't totally colorblind though their color vision is much more limited than humans though they can detect the polarization of light which us humans can't so there's a lot about their vision and camouflage abilities that we don't understand.

  • But all the divers ain't good toward animals, so we shouldn't become too familiar with them anyway...

  • get an education

  • What does that have to do with anything, i don't care at all about this fish or whatever any of you guys think, i just stated what it looked like to me so don't get all butt hurt about it, damn, who gives a hell anyways its just a fish so drop it.

  • actually its not a fish, its a mollusk

  • who gives a flying f*** I don't care stop replying to my comments its freaking retarded and annoying

  • I just wanted to reply to raxny's comment...it's not a fish

  • I don't care and why are u telling me this the video's title is cuttle fish tell the person who posted this not me i don't care what it is.

  • umm it is a fish its a cuttle FISH o.o

  • It's actually a cephalopod..related to squid and octopus :) sometimes species are named before scientists find out what they're related to. If I had a say about it I'd name it mini-cthulhu.

  • thanks

  • IT'S A FAKE!!!!!! I WAS THERE!

  • amazing creatures.....

    emoskaters101

its not a fish at all

it's a Cephalopod (same family as octopus and squid)

  • They are amazing creatures, its a shame they have such a very short lifespan.

  • i know. I love it when they are hypnotising their preys.

  • I bet on cuttlefish taking over the earth if they ever evolve longer lifespans. They're amazingly smart animals.

  • the jellyfish are going to take over..

  • They all look pretty stoned (including the cuttlefish) lol

  • they are amazing fish!

  • That V shape it makes with it's tentacles is a sign of aggression.

  • They look like maniacs who want to abuse that fish

    lol

  • That one is pissed-off!

  • uh.......its a weird name for a fish that looks all....lazy and...not cuttly at all..

  • beautiful

  • I love Palau!

  • amazing....

  • are they touchable?

  • they exist, don't they? do yea.
