God I miss my jeep! I had a 89 cherokee with 3" skyjacker lift and 32x11.50 Bridgestone duller mud terrian tires. It had the 4.0L straight 6 with the 5 spd manual trans. As long as you didn't bottom out it would go anywhere mud,clay,snow and sand at the obx. Pulled out full size chevys and fords with it.lol The older jeeps where the sht. I'am not sold on the new mercedes mutt thing jeeps.

I know that there is a difference in weight of about a ton or so, also that there were probably jumps being made before that and how the surface being sand it doesn't hold a lip as well as dirt.

They weigh about the same depending on the model. They have nicer and quieter interiors, better gas mileage and better performance. A "grand cherokee" is 1in wider, you would have to scrape the tires on a wrangler for a grand cherokee to not fit. I've been told wranglers would barely fit on trails for years and I've taken my 86 Chevy long bed with 10in wider axle through every time with no problems. You are exaggerating.
