could one replace the transformers in that with edcor ones? i found the circuit diagram for this and im gonna build a custom chassis for it but I think that edcor transformers would look better then the round ones.
The difference between MP3s and CDs is that MP3s are lossy compressions---removal of data to reduce file size. Obviously uncompressed files (CD, AIFF or WAV) are going to be theoretically better than compressed ones. In practice, most people don't notice or care about the difference. People with discerning ears are more likely to take notice.
Your placement of your speakers is just about the worst spot in your room. Near the ceiling, in a cave-like space makes for a boomy bass, a hollow sound and lessens your high notes since the tweeters - if your speaks have any - are way above ear level. You amp deserves better. Paradigm, Epos or even the least expensive Magnepans ($550) would really do your tube amp justice.
Looks like a Velleman K4040 to me and you can find those all over the place. The stock design has many areas that need improvement. Look up K4040 mods and you'll find them.

@AkyraSGL I don't know how you would make a custom amplifier anyhow, they all use off the shelf components of some sort, and every circuit that works has used had to be used by someone, somewhere, at some time. About the only thing you could customize is the chassis and or cabinet ,and the parts layout to a lesser degree.
I hate to burst your bubble redshot17 but this isnt one of two in the world i have one its a kit from electronickits . com/kit/complete/ampl/VEK4040.htm
Vacuum tubes does the same thing as a transistor type amplifier. The only problem is the heat built up and higher voltage required to power up these vacuum diode tubes. In older organs by Conn, Thomas, Baldwin used such vacuum tubes as tone oscillators as there so many of them to be used.
you got enough amp to run a few 15"s try this .. couple 15"s for mid range one 15" on a crossover in a sub box... and a couple 3" tweeters. you got 240watts of power you need to utilize
This amp, if stock, has many defects. I've modified several many years ago and found they are only acceptable, for audiophile standards, after some serious post-investment. However, if you like modifying, this is a good starter amp because there is a lot of space to work with.
eae cara blz?Você poderia me disponibilizar o esquema e o layout(se for possivel) para o email : eduardo.bonifacio@hotmail.com
tks

Great work. looks very sexy. And that's all a tubeamp should do :D
Don't give too much on audiophile crap like you shall not hear to mp3s or cds... that's all just smack talk.

Remove this f***ing mixer and it would sound much better! For what the hell do you need this? You only lose audio quality!
BTW: Pretty nice amp! :-)

Stop Playing with the knobs .... if it can't play flat there is an issue. Nice amp but toss the board in the trash.

Uploaded a new video with a turntable. And it is awesome.
After some months listening to this, I can't listen to mp3's anymore. It's just weird when I play a mp3 file.
redshot17 2 years ago
@redshot17
probably cause mp3 is a shitty standard, i think it only goes up to 14kHz or something.....even cds go past 22kHz, which is still not great either.
get yourself a nice LP player
donnyab 8 months ago
@donnyab It's an old video. I have a Technics SL-D303 now, and an Edirol UA4-FX to listen to my, at least, FLACs.
That was when I got the amp first in my place. Also, isn't CD 44.1KHz? Unless you're not talking about the sampling frequency.

what a waist of a amp
grumm70 2 years ago
Can I ask why? I didn't have any other player. Better the Sony DVD than the shitty computer sound card.
Anyway, I got a Technics Turntable now. Will update soon.
